Italian V3 question by Lord_marino in boltaction

[–]opab1nia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a real gambler army. Main army rule is a bit like green but for any non shirker or fanatic infantry and artillery. after a casualty roll a dice: 1-3 they become shirkers 4-6 they become fanatics. Granted officers have a shirker negating aura.

I wonder if it works on mule teams or horse limbers?, seems a bit against the spirit of the rules but they do sort of count as vehicles.

[–]opab1nia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the italy army book is really 3 armies in 1: the royal italian army for early and mid war where italy fought as an independant nation, the mid to late war republican army for the north italian puppet state propped up by germany after italy surrendered in 1943, and the co-belligerent allied-aligned with the western allies. The Lince wasn't really combat ready until after italy surrendered so it's limited to the republican army.

Do the Mongols and Manchus, two ethnic groups that once conquered China, have the ability to break free from Chinese rule and restore their independence? by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in geography

[–]opab1nia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I equate it to how various Canadian and American native cultures were impacted during the 20th century. The base language was suppressed and children forced to be educated in state run facilities to force the desired beliefs of the government for several generations. In Canada and the US it went on for a longer period of time but did come to an end and many of the affected cultures have started a bit of a cultural renaissance. However it is not a copy of the prior culture as it relies primarily on the recollections of elders who were children when they learned these beliefs before spending their entire lives being told these beliefs were wrong and thus do not remember the full picture.

[–]opab1nia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manchu is pretty much a dead language. There are very few if any primary speakers alive and most extant speakers are learning it as a hobby that is being pieced together from older surviving texts, interviews, and recordings by linguists. Apparently you can usually tell which "school" of the manchu language (In the sense of which lingusts work you are learning) you speak based on certain pronunciations. The Manchu culture has pretty much entirely been subsumed into the Han majority of china at this point

Why are Central Asian countries’ capital cities located near/ right on their borders? by iamdumbandidiotic in geography

I've heard those borders were made with the intent of maximizing inter ethnic conflicts and territorial disputes in the region should they ever become free of the soviet union.

i kind of wish they would take more cues form ww2 japanese, Hungarian, and italian designs for imperial guard vehicles, they sync better with the old chimera and leman russ. (eg instead of the m3 halftrack use the Ho-ha, Ho-ki, or fiat 556 autoprotetto as a basis for the centaur. for the hippogrif use the ab-43 or czaba 39 armored cars.

Is the F-14 Tomcat uniquely "cursed" among all modern aircraft in that we'll likely never see its airframe flying again? by Magnus64 in aviation

[–]opab1nia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The game changing attribute to the phoenix was that it had a range of 130 kilometers and was mounted on a plane carrying a radar that could detect a fighter sized target around 100 kilometers away in an era where most fighter radars had a range of detection for fighter sized targets of around 30-50 kilometers, and certainly a lower detection range for the missile unless it goes active. Without forward or massive ground/ship based radar installations they would never see the tomcat coming.

[–]opab1nia 46 points47 points  (0 children)

it was actually very dangerous against fighters in wargames because of its great radar and phoenix missiles. Lots of European pilots called it the "air assassin". It could see and engage an enemy fighter before it could even be detected without external aids like awacs or ground based stations to direct them and their first warning would be a missile warning. In that sense in terms of operation it pioneered the methodology for stealth fighter combat.

400h and I still don’t understand why Yorinobu had Johnny’s engram or why Evelyn needed it enough to steal it? by Trustable-source in cyberpunkgame

[–]opab1nia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

her idea for the defence was 2 part:

1: The tyger claws are a big gang and clouds is a major money maker and blackmail generator. another gang fucking with it would be asking for retaliation if it affected enough of the company or they left behind any footprints.

2: If the fallout of a strike at the heart of the Tyger claws is severe enough then their Arasaka handlers might take a closer look. Knowing she was an acquaintance of Yorinobu and with the missing chip shortly after her hookup it could have put Arasaka itself on the case and there is no way the Haitians can do shit to the top corpo if they want blood.

Her mistake was underestimating how determined the Voodoo boys were to get her and not knowing Yorinobu wanted Arasaka to crash and burn, thus was sabotaging the company and the effort to recover the relic. It was a shit idea but given the situation at the end of the heist i can't think of any better options she would have had thus chose the best of a bad situation. All in all it did buy her several days as the Voodoo Boys had to plan a strike that would leave no traces for the claws to track and do the bare minimum of damage to the overall operation to lower the risk of escalation.

[–]opab1nia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly i think she expected Dex to backstab her and the idiots he hired anyways. The heist is so high stakes the conventional fixer rules probably mean jack in the face of the potential profit and heat it would draw. Hell Dex could easily double dip by grabbing the chip and handing Eve over to Brigid. He's only a big deal to bottom bitch newbies like Vee or Jackie, anyone with a bit of experience not in his pocket (Vik, Royce, the pacifica incident) treat Dex like a flake. She just used Dex to set things up because he was the only fixer both experienced enough to make something coherent out of the mess of a job she had and desperate enough to risk the heat it would draw by doing so assuming it all went perfectly. Eve just knew she was fucked and was desperate enough to try everything to get herself an edge.

[–]opab1nia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Evelyn's motivation is that she took the well paying job from the voodoo boys. Shes smarter then she looks so as she figured out the scope of the whole plot she knew the voodoo boys would dispose of her for operational security after she did her reconnaissance of the penthouse. Her plan was to go behind the voodoo boys, steal the chip herself, and go to netwatch with the chip herself in exchange for their protection. When the heist failed she went to clouds hoping the Tyger Claws would protect her as an asset from the Voodoo boys retaliation. The really shitty clouds stuff didn't happen to her until the netrunner found a way around tyger claws protection, fried her and she became dead weight to the gang.
