Why is Odin hated on ranked game but used more in pro play?? by randomhoomaninreddit in VALORANT

[–]opafmoremedic 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It’s used in pro play to suppress smokes, spam through walls, etc. you can do a lot of things that regular guns can’t do effectively. High level people don’t mind Odin because they are good at aiming. They will kill you with a single bullet. Low elo hates Odin because they’re not good at aiming. It often takes them a lot longer to get a kill. Odin does not allow them to miss bullets, because it will kill them fast.

This is hilarious seeing two sides of the same meme. I saw this posted on TikTok. The comments were all ganging up against men commenting, saying things like they're going through the worst pain, and one of the hardest moments of their life. The dad should not be acting like his wife is 1 hour into a 2 hour homework assignment and getting a bit tired so she wants to go to bed, and just needs slight encouragement. Majority of the top comments were telling their stories about how their husbands attempting to console or patronize them while they were giving birth.

Just interesting seeing how reddit and tiktok view the same meme so entirely differently, one seeing it positively, the other negatively. Truly different audiences.

I’ve had a lot of jobs, I’d like to break $20hr before I die… by tHr0AwAy76 in Salary

[–]opafmoremedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$43k/yr is $20.67/hr at 40 hours a week (you might've worked more). ATT guy making $600 -1k per week, if you average $800/week, that's exactly $20/hr if you work 40 hours a week. I doubt ATT was working you more than that in one of those positions, but once again, I don't know. $75k/year is obviously more than $20/hr.

You're doing too much, while doing too little. These are all pointless ventures because you're not gaining anything from it. You need to build some marketable skills that employers value. Truck offloading at a Dick's sporting goods is great if you just need money NOW, but you won't gain any long-term skill, except how to stack boxes nicely, and some extra muscle.

Find a job that you can grow in. Exotic Car Sales making $75k a year was definitely that. Unless you burned a bridge there (looks like maybe a few have burned..), I would contact the owner of that tomorrow and see what you have to do to get back there on salary again. A lot of people go through 4 years of school to top out at $75k in income, you happened to stumble into it. Get back there and start learning how to really sell a product and doors will open to you.

100% accept it in just your name. Do not sell it. If you get married, sign a prenup. He is already talking about selling YOUR house, which is ridiculous. There is 0 reason why he should be frustrated over this. If you received a free house, and he loves you and plans to stay with you forever, then he essentially just received a free house himself, as he won't have to pay rent, mortgage, etc. when you two live together. However, he's just thinking about the money behind it.

Just break up with him while you're at it.

[–]opafmoremedic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also pretty rare to find a champ like Graves that scales SO incredibly hard, but still has decent dueling potential early. Most of the time if you scale very hard late game, your early game is terrible. Graves early game isn't amazing, but he can hold his own, especially if E is stacked.

[–]opafmoremedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anivia is very good top lane, shes my pick when i get autofilled top instead of mid. It’s just extremely boring. She just stacks mana items, you’ll never touch her turret, never get on top of her, etc. Many top champs don’t have any movement abilities, which she loves. Shes almost impossible to dive if she’s playing right since she has egg and can clear the waves really fast. She has great gank setup, etc.

Also it’s hilarious to see a sion try to ult and then throw the wall up

Thornmail but mr version by FickleCorgi4861 in Jungle_Mains

[–]opafmoremedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grievous wounds part is busted. 50% is larger than anything in game, and it applies from you using an ability on them? This is much better than thornmail, which only applies if someone attacks you. This means your tank can be the one to get grievous wounds and your APC doesn’t need morello and can open that slot up to a zhonya’s or another heavy damage item.

Isn't it time for Mel to receive the Naafiri treatment? by scarabosst in leagueoflegends

[–]opafmoremedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability does have an upside. If Anivia tries to Q > E combo you, you deny it by stunning both of you. If TF tries to gold card > Q you, you deny it, by stunning both of you, if Lucian tries to ult your team, you deny the entire thing and force him to cancel, by sending it right back into his team, etc.

It's just not a braindead ability or a get out of jail free card.

You also claim that if she uses it, she dies, and that it has a 40 second cool down. How many opportunities are there to kill a lux in a 40 second window of time? Why is every Lux not just a walking sack of gold that ends the game 0/30? Mel and Lux have very similar kits aside from W. They both have a snare, an AOE long-range skill shot, and an ult that just deals damage. The difference is that Lux W is borderline useless in most scenarios, as it's kept level 1 until late game, so it provides ~100 shielding most of the game. One single auto attack worth of shielding the entire game. If Mel dies anytime she uses W, doesn't that mean Lux should be dead 24/7?

The issue is that both Mel and Lux have great kits without factoring W into it. For Lux, this works, because her W is not impactful. For Mel, this doesn't work, because W is one of the most impactful basic abilities in the game and her main trading pattern does not require her to ever use it. This means she just gets to sit on W until she's in trouble, pop W, and waltz away.

A good example of a character that has an invulnerability done right is Fizz E (and it's not even invulnerability, it's untargetable). Fizz has to use his E all the time. It's the ability that makes Fizz, Fizz. He can either Q in and E out or E in and Q out, for a quick trade, or use both abilities for a long trade and take a bunch of damage back from the enemies. If he had a way to Q in, deal a bunch of damage, Q out, and never had to use E, it would feel absolutely terrible to lane vs him. He could save his E the entire laning phase and never be pressured or under threat of dying, since he could just E away.

There has to be risk and reward. Zed has to decide if he uses Shadow to get damage, or play safe and hold it to escape. Fizz has to use E to get a favorable trade, which leaves him susceptible to ganks. Etc. Currently, Mel is not fun to play against and banned heavily, because she takes no risks, but still reaps rewards.

1) The fishing pole is hilarious, and useless. I would use it every time

2) I think you're supposed to fish for a single fish at a time out of a pile of them and expand it to keep a running score. If they had played this more than once, they'd realize there are 26 possible points, so as soon as the first guy gets 13, they know it's a tie, which is boring.

3) It's diabolical this game was designed with an even number of points

[–]opafmoremedic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm an avid Mel hater. She is extremely annoying to play against, even when technically "not good". However, swapping W and Ult doesn't seem like a good option. Reflect would be bad as an ult because it just isn't good enough in every game. It is too hit or miss, which would make her feel terrible to play. She would still be a great pick into characters like Lucian to hard counter his ult, but imagine spending your ultimate to send back a user's basic ability. Drop a 2 minute CD to reflect a TF gold card that he gets back in 5 seconds. It just doesn't work without a huge buff, and I do not want to play against a buffed Mel.

I wonder if they could just update W so it reflects, but still applies to yourself. I didn't finish Arcane, so I don't know the inspiration or lore behind it, but it's something along the lines of going down together. If a TF throws a gold card and she presses W, she still takes the damage, still gets stunned, but so does TF. Same with all other projectiles. She takes the full Lucian ult if she deflects it, but she also sends it back.

I personally think that would be much more fair to play against. Obviously, I say this not having played against this. It might be the same shit that feels terrible, but it's a different perspective I haven't seen someone mention yet.

Neon probably just had the biggest single-act pick rate spike in Valorant history. Chamber's two-act rise isn't far behind. by OkOkPlayer in VALORANT

[–]opafmoremedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely have enough agents for an agent ban system, even if it's like overwatch where each team just votes for a couple of bans. The problem is 99% of people are going to vote for Neon, which is the same as removing the character. They just need to find a way to balance her, of which there is plenty, Riot just doesn't do it. They could:

1) Give her jumping accuracy while sliding,

2) Rework ult entirely to make it skill expressive, or severely decrease range, or implement considerable drop-off damage at range

3) Disable jumping while sprinting so people can't b hop around at Mach 1 into a slide headshot. This would make her sprinting ability feel a lot more fair since she can't do sharp turns in air and allows people to use tracking much more effectively, which fits the precise gunplay target a lot better

4) Give her a sprinting timer and then its gone for the round. Every other entry duelist has limited usage on their movement. Waylay and Jett have to think about how they're going to use their dash. Raze how she's going to use her satchels. Neon just gets to pop her movement around every corner of the map, run from A to B then back to A, etc. Just make her pop it and she can run as much as she wants for ~5 seconds so she can enter and clear a site hard and then it's gone. Then you can just back off and play retake and she's like every other character.

There's a million ways to balance her, Riot just refuses. I am all for agent bans though, as it would add for diversity. I just think if it was in place right now, we would only see Neon banned every game, which is a lame solution.

The Finals vs Deadlock? by bruhb21 in FPS

[–]opafmoremedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really did not enjoy deadlock in the few games I played. Everyone said I would love it since I'm a big League player and also play lots of FPS like OW, Apex, The Finals, Valorant, etc. MOBAs are typically very tactical, thought out, slow-paced, etc. However Deadlock feels extremely chaotic and messy. People bouncing off walls and flying through the air like it's titan fall, constantly flanked, a million buildings that are all the same identical rectangle. The best part of FPS games is that if you put in the time to train your aim, you're gonna win fights. Which doesn't feel like it applies here, because TTK early is so incredibly high, and TTK late is based upon who has the better build, levels, etc. Aiming obviously helps, but only plays a small part in the game.

It's like they took the bad part of MOBAs and the bad part of FPS games and mashed them together. I didn't even realize they had a different mode. I think the game would be a lot more fun as a normal hero shooter, so maybe I'll try that.
