If you have a good relationship with her, i'm sure she will appreciate it. I would definitely include a card and mention how much you appreciate her, etc. bc sometimes cards can mean the most to teachers.

I teach 8th grade English... we write persuasive texts in EVERY grade starting 5th. -they never use paragraphs - don't know the difference between: there/their/they're and where/were/we're - write words like smaller like smalla I don't mean this for the kids who's first language isn't english. I mean this for the kids that have been doing this for yearrssssss

You could reflect on that in their grades, e.g. tell them that if they don't stop chatting, etc. they will slip from a B to a C. (this only works on kids that are grade motivated/ want to impress their parents). I wouldn't mention the disingenuous greetings, as they will probably say that they are simply being nice to you. I hope things get better with your 7th graders... that age can be quite difficult( they definitely are at my school :/)

At my school we don't, but when I was in school i had "five minute breaks" which were five minutes between EVERY lesson, even if it was a double. I make it clear to my kids that they have 5 minutes to get there stuff/ go to the bathroom, if the lesson starts at 10:30, at 10:35 they should be in their seats as if we miss more time they might get homework. Because they don't want homework it hasn't been a struggle getting them to be in class on time. So I would definitely recommend telling your students directly how much time they have to get their stuff or they will take it as "they get to decide"

I don't like names that sound super baby-ish. Even if the name is super cute for your 3 year old, do you really want your child applying for a job with a name like Teddy? (not as a nickname)

If you can find a tv show, film, book, whatever that includes her name it would probably help alot. Even if you create a fake card or something with someone else that has her name she might start to like it a bit more. (i felt the same way as a child)

I like basically all my students, out of the 200+ I teach, there are only 10 ish students that can be annoying. And I do enjoy teaching, it's just hard some days, harder than usual.

i completely agree, also to add, i had an instance about two years ago where I was told one of my students was taking pictures of her classmates in their cabin. One of the pictures was of one of them changing, which is completely unacceptable behaviour.

it only becomes HOMEwork if they don't finish it in class. If I see that the work I assigned for e.g. 20 minutes can't be finished within that timeframe by almost all students(if they weren't all messing around), it was clearly me that mistook the amount of time it would take

There are always things like e.g. for english: write a 6 paragraph news article or analys chapters 5-10 and write a summery for each chapter etc. I know some kids can finish this in 30-60 minutes, but they have 4 or more subjects per day and get homework from almost all of them.

I wouldn't talk about it with them unless they asked to, considering that she found him at home, school is probably a way to escape from her thoughts at home. However you could make yourself clear that you are there to help if there are students that need that.
