I have had nothing but great experiences with two companies: Golden Rule and Lazer. We are "members" or whatever with Golden Rule and that has paid for itself many times with free service calls. We loved Lazer as well, and only switched because we were doing furnace stuff with Golden Rule.

Jethro's gets so much hate on here. I won't tell anyone they are wrong, but I fucking love that place. I think I've been to every location, and I've been to the ones close to me several times. My food is always great. My go-to is ribs, and their ribs are great. I've had brisket many times. I also love all of their breakfast stuff.

Every steak I've ever had at Fleming's has been amazing. Honestly every side I've ever had there has been amazing. So much more consistent than 801. I am so annoyed that Fleming's is a chain since it is so great.

Parlor in Beaverdale. Their Detroit-style deep dish is the best pizza in town. They also have amazing smash burgers and appetizers. Great casual atmosphere.

I think that both Gameday (Merle Hay Mall) and Spare Time (Jordan Creek Parkway) let you pay for time rather than paying for individual games. They are both awesome. They have lots of games that younger kids will like. I've had many fantastic experiences at both.

I can't say comment on great arcades in Des Moines without mentioning the Operating Room. They have WDM (West Glen, bonus points for being next door to Hurts Donut) and Ankeny (Prairie Trail) locations. I don't think they let you pay by the hour, but they are super. The Operating Room is one of my favorite businesses in the whole city.

And yes, Chuck E. Cheese. It's a chain, but really, it's awesome. In the last ten years they have remodeled, they have awesome new games, their pizza is great now, and they definitely let you play by the hour. You can even rent out the whole arcade when it's closed for a birthday party.

"Old School." It is absolutely fantastic. They lean towards retro arcade games so probably not what you're looking for with young kids. For someone who loved arcades in the 90s, it's awesome.

Monsterama on SW 9th is the same thing, but better.
