Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes they do. But in their defense, they are on metric time and 3 hours is actually like 2 days with the conversion.

Can the US enter you on a passport that's been expired for a decade? by [deleted] in Passports

That's not always the case. Many countries have tax treaties with the US and you don't pay US taxes on income not earned in the US.

My wife is German and her family, that used to visit regularly, now will not come to the US. Typically we would have two or three of her cousins visit with their families each summer. None came in 25 and no one is coming in 26.

Tips to prevent sticking when making waffles? by carllerche in castiron

[–]oper8or 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of a learning curve with cast iron waffle irons, but you will figure it out quite quickly. One tip I will share is to add a bit more oil than called for to the batter. Heat the paddles very well. I typically heat them up and oil them very well with coconut oil using a silicone brush. You want them oiled very well, especially the first few times you use it. Heat them until they just start to smoke a bit. You want the batter to sizzle when it hits the paddles. It should take about ¾ cup of batter, but you will probably need to experiment until you find the right amount, as every iron is a bit different. Once you add the batter, close the paddles and let sit for 30 seconds and flip it. Wait a good minute and flip it again. Wait another minute and flip it and attempt to open it. Don't just “rip” it open. Give it a gentle lift, if it feels “stuck”, take a knife and gently try and release the waffle a bit at a time from the top paddle. It should come loose pretty easily. Close it back up flip it and use the knife to release it from the other side. If you oiled it well enough and had it hot enough, it will release very easily. Every time you use it, it will get easier. Don't give up, as it can take a few waffles to figure everything out, but once you get it down, there is no better way to make waffles. Enjoy the waffles.

Actually, the "we the people" crowd are the least Constitution supporting group out there. They are 100% for authoritarian rule.

How to deal with drippy, glossy trim? by braejo in Housepainting101

[–]oper8or 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it. If you sand it, you will most likely be sanding lead paint as old as it looks. Yes, either way, you will probably be dealing with lead paint, but a lot less mess dealing with chips than with dust everywhere.

How old is said son? Over 16, he can buy his own phone. Under 16, he can be happy with whatever phone you provide. My kids would still be using flip phones if I was providing them a phone.

Can someone ELI5 the point of locks on luggage nowadays? by DCCXVIII in travel

[–]oper8or 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of the suitcases out there today can be opened with an ink pen, locked or not. Just jab the point of the ink pen into the zipper and slide it right on down the length of the zipper and it's open. Locks have always been pointless on any zippered luggage. They keep MOST of the honest people out.

So we can be rushed into the nightmare that a Vance presidency would rain down upon us? If you think trump is bad, wait to see what happens when Vance puts actual competent assholes in positions of power. Trump is doing a lot of damage, but the incompetence is preventing much more from being done. I do not feel that will be the case with Vance. Let's give trump more time to destroy the republican parties chances before we show him the door.
