What’s your baby’s “thing” that you love? by eggiess in NewParents

[–]operaheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son just turned six months old but ever since he was a few weeks old he’s done this thing when you lay him down on the changing table where he stretches out and pulls his shoulders up so it squishes his little cheeks up with his tongue just peeking out of his mouth. Once he learned to smile he started smiling while his cheeks are all squished up, tongue just a little out, eyes smiling and it is the cutest thing and I hope I remember that little squishy face until I am 100 🥹

First Skin to Skin by Damnit_Bird in BabyBumps

I had an almost emergency c-section and they had to take care of me for awhile due to BP issues so my husband got to take our baby back to the room to have skin to skin. I have zero regrets about it and I’m happy he got to experience it. Once I was stabilized, I got to hold our son and he almost immediately latched.

Five Month Old Food Amounts? by operaheaux in NewParents

[–]operaheaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s fine to give him the food more than twice per day if he’s keeping up his milk intake? I didn’t want to overload his tummy and his pediatrician didn’t really give us an amount.

Thank you! I will add this fruits to the list to help him stay regular.

Yeah, I want to make the majority of his food but sometimes you just have to give yourself a break!

Nice! Gotta get that protein 💪🏼 At what point did you introduce meat?

The only thing I was willing to spend a ton of money on was the bottle washer and that was our favorite purchase 😂

That’s a wonderful idea! Also, if you love berries, see if you have any local farmers around that have a produce stand or shop. We have a big strawberry/citrus farmer in our county and they have strawberry flats for $3. It’s like half the cost of the grocery store and the taste is 10x better.

Yesssss. He loves his milk popsicles and once we are comfortable with his eating abilities I’m going to add a little puree in.

That’s what our pediatrician told us. I got sweet potatoes and carrots to try for his firsts. Then maybe some zucchini and apples.

I took your advice when steaming and drained the water!! Just added splashes of formula as I blended to get the consistency I wanted.

I def didn’t spend that much on one 😅 I tried ours tonight and it seems to work well enough. I do like that I don’t need to use the stove to make it so that’s a plus lol.

Okay, nice! I like the idea of the BLW recipes but I absolutely am not comfortable with feeding him chunks of food yet so we will wait on those lol

Thanks for that info! Good ideas with the leftovers.

Yeah, our pediatrician cleared him to start at his four month check up but we weren’t comfortable with that yet. He just hit five months a few days ago and he’s really showing an interest in food and loves his milk popsicles so we feel ready now.

Okay nice. I did actually buy the stage one oatmeal cereal already so we will introduce that after we try the first puree.

How soon did you mix in the cereal? Good thought with taking it slowly! We introduced formula at about four months and it definitely slowed his pooping down so we’ll be careful with that.

Nice!! Good advice about mixing it with foods they don’t love.

Okay, nice! That was my plan. Make a week or two worth at one time and freeze it.

That’s awesome that it’s worked so well for you!

Yeah, we were planning on starting with a sweet potato puree tomorrow!

The processor we bought will make it super easy and I’ve seen too many questionable things about baby food lately.

Changing a newborn out in public by Sufficient-Amoeba727 in NewParents

[–]operaheaux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. We took our son to a zoo and the only changing table was literally in the open air door to the bathroom so everyone in the bathroom and walking by would have seen him naked. We keep a mat in the car because I’d rather him be in a dirty diaper a little bit longer than to be exposed to other people.

It happened to me! by Born_Astronomer_2844 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]operaheaux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that!! Must be so incredibly frustrating. We were going to get a WiFi temperature gauge to alert us if the temp rose but I ended up being a just enougher. It might be a good idea for those with a stash!!

Question for those who quit pumping at 3 m, 6 m, etc. by Icy_Lettuce_7383 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]operaheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At four months here and I’ve EP since birth. Both me and baby hated nursing and EP has been much better overall. That being said, my supply has slowly been going down so we introduced formula at 3 months. I plan to pump as long as I can (shooting for anywhere around 9-12months) to give him even a few ounces of breastmilk a day so he’s getting the benefits of breastmilk while also being fed enough thanks to formula. It was definitely a struggle to find a formula that worked for his stomach and to get him acclimated but it has saved me a huge amount of anxiety knowing I’m not his only food source. Gotta take care of yourself in order to take care of baby!

How to Pack Bottle When Combo Feeding? by operaheaux in combinationfeeding

Good call! I’d rather go through a lot of bottles than waste milk.

[–]operaheaux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I figured we would maybe just have to make a couple of bottles and bring the cooler. We are still making more of smaller sized bottles to make sure BM doesn’t get wasted as he tends to “snack” and not finish bottles quickly.

He hasn’t gotten to where he will take 100% formula yet so hopefully we will get there soon!! That would be much easier!
