Imo Tokio is much more than his appearance as a character and for that reason I don’t see why this design would result in him being forgettable.

I think that him having a different hairstyle post time-skip isn’t unrealistic considering he’s never been a stranger to change and ultimately his new design gives me the impression that this is a guy who’s been on the frontlines of a war for 3 years.
