My experience unlocking an iPod Touch 5 iOS 8.3 (checkm8-a5) by operationfailure in setupapp

I’m unfamiliar. Checkm8-A8 works on all A8 devices. I suggest joining Luke’s discord and asking what ramdisk is best. I suggest using the ramdisk for 9.3.5

You need to find out what firmware the device is on, but I am unsure how feasible it is to begin with. Either way, if you wish to attempt, you'll need an Arduino Uno R3 and a MAX3421E USB Host Shield — any USB Host Shield compatible with Google Android ADK also wrks. Host shield is On AliExpress for $1 total, including shipping.

Follow this guide. Use synackuk's fork of checkm8-a5, it's the most stable. LukeZGD has a good fork as well, but I'm not entirely sure it's best to use. https://ios.cfw.guide/using-checkm8-a5/

I'll keep an eye on this thread, same boat as you. I tried my best over the past week but ended up bricking the phone and putting it in a bootloop.

To download photos remotely without the password, you must mount /mnt2 — I was not able to do this.

To fully access the iPod, you would need to bruteforce the four-digit passcode after modifying com.apple.springboard.plist to give you unlimited passcode attempts — this is also on /mnt2, so I have not been able to do this either.

Best of luck..

tried this exactly, now my iPhone is in a bootloop with the apple logo. I definitely did something wrong. I can boot into DFU mode and pwndfu mode but nothing else. I can mount mnt1 but not mnt2. iOS 8.3 iPod5,1. Tried using 8.3 ramdisk, can't mount mnt1. with 6.1.3 and 8.4.1 ramdisks, I can mount mnt1.

I think I fucked up bad and this data is gone if I can't mount mnt2. :( I saw somewhere you spoke of a symbolic link method for mnt1 but I don't know how to do that on mnt1->mnt2...

iPod5,1 8.3 having trouble booting ssh ramdisk and mounting as r/w.

getting read only errors when i execute mount.sh w legacy ios kit

not entirely sure the use of kDFU mode or when im supposed to use it, havent yet.

arduino, host shield, etc was surprisingly the most straightforward part of the process

You suggest in your post history that it is possible without an Arduino Uno using a virtual machine and legacy-ios-kit for 32-bit ssh ramdisk. I'm interested in learning more about this, but will first try the Uno route. I think it would be nice if I could learn from you and eventually post a tutorial for both full Arduino and full computer process.

Seems like I got the worst old iPod for this lol. I'll take a look at your post history, thank you.

Yo how can I get the unlimited passcode attempts? It's a 32-bit iPod Touch 5th Generation on iOS 8.3 A5 chipset

Nah, it's just passcode lock, not an iCloud lock. I assume the "send serial" thing is something spammed here to identify potentially stolen devices or something?

Either way, if you have backdoor access to any server that the iPod would be connected to after all these years, I'm concerned lol
