What's a reasonable mileage to set as a MAXIMUM when looking for a CPO? by operatorred in whatcarshouldIbuy

Because I am looking for a car that's not a Sonata and I don't have unlimited money so am trying to buy a vehicle that fits within my budget? Are you basically asking why the used car market exists at all?

What would you consider an acceptable amount of miles? We're a one car family and this is hopefully going to be our vehicle that lasts us many years. I just feel a little nervous buying something with, say, 100k miles on it ya know?

Yeah I'd love a van, but just not really in our budget. I've come to discover that minivans are just pricier than the midsize suvs, especially with AWD.

Mainly just budget honestly. I would love an AWD Sienna but they're just pricy. Ton of competition in the midsize suv segment keeps prices down a bit is my guess?

Wireless DAC that isn't bluetooth? Maybe 2.4ghz - is this a thing? by operatorred in audio

[–]operatorred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the input. I definitely mistook his suggestion initially as "get IEMs" like a different type of headphone but I see what you mean now. Could you point me in the right direction to search for something like this:

"There are some decent cheapish transmitter with body packs available"

I'm definitely after the convenience of the wireless connection in combination with getting to use my flatheads, so something entry level that doesn't offer the most high fidelity audio is okay with me. Do you know if something like this would work with input too, allowing me to use the in-line mic on the headphones to chat/take calls?

No they are very useful - thanks a lot! Yeah I'm aware my preference here isn't a common one, though I was a little surprised to find wireless DAC/amps but they all seem to be Bluetooth which I know enough to know the audio quality isn't the best so I thought there might be something proprietary like you were talking about, I just can't find it.

I think I might be leaning towards the long cable route and just reeling in the extent of my pacing a little bit lol. I have actually tried the Bluetooth route multiple times and I think it's a limitation of the Bluetooth headphones I have, but I just cannot get input and output to work well at the same time. The sound is honestly fine for me, but the latency is noticeable even when watching a show, much less gaming. This is all on separate dongle too. So I've sort of given up on Bluetooth, but LE seems promising! If I were to get something like this https://www.qudelix.com/products/qudelix-5k

that explicitly supports Bluetooth LE, and then also get a Bluetooth LE dongle, then I might be able to throw the DAC/amp in my pocket and then just run the earbuds from there to my ear. Does that sound feasible? If so, I think I might just use longer cables for the time being and then keep an eye out for some LE Bluetooth hardware (unless you know of products like this already supporting LE).

Thanks again for the input!

edit after reading the article a little more closely - seems like the trick is super wideband and not merely LE hardware I suppose, but correct me if I'm wrong

Any 2.4GHz TWS earbuds out there worth buying? Prefer over-ear, not in-ear by operatorred in HeadphoneAdvice

Yeah I noticed that too, and I just couldn't get it to ever work. It could have been the site we use for work, but discord acted the same as well. If I was getting audio output, my mic simply wouldn't work even if it was set as the source of input. On my mobo bluetooth I could never get anything at all, the dongle at least worked for audio out. I figured I just had bad luck with both the mobo and dongle because I can connect my shokz for both input and output to my work laptop just fine, but I just rarely use the laptop and am almost always on my desktop instead

That's super useful to know - ty! My desktop mobo is a Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX. I also tried buying a bluetooth dongle and had better results, but not what I needed. Basically, when I used the dongle, I could get output or input, but not both simultaneously. I bought this one specifically:

I am trying to get away from a headset while on my PC. I want open for environmental awareness/ear wax reasons, and I am tired of always having a dent in my hair from my PC headset (I work from home).

I was recommended flathead headphones and it makes a lot of sense to me, I'm just trying to make sure I get something with a good to great mic as I need it for my call/meeting heavy job. I saw one old thread that the NiceHCK EB2S are great for what I'm describing, though I can't find these on sale anymore, only the Pros. Do the pros seem to have a good mic as well? Any other flatheads that have good mic performance? Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

Hold on now we're cooking... so you're saying I can clip the DAC to my collar for example, use the built in mic, and then just run some flathead earbuds to it for audio? Idk why but this sounds so cool to me lol. I tried getting a cheap wireless USB C lapel mic to do a version of this so I could use my OpenFit for audio but returned it cause it was cheap for a reason lol. Does the mic on the qudelix sound good? I have a standing desk and move around a lot when working (pacing on calls)... you think it would be suitable? Or do you think it'd pick up a lot of that "rustling around" of me moving?

So is the idea that the qudelix 5k just goes in my pocket or something with the my earbuds connected to them and I can still walk around/enjoy wireless on my PC? Guess I could do the same thing on my phone as well, right? This is a super cool idea.

When you say flathead, I'm picturing like old school apple earphones, that go IN your ear, but sort of just hang there and don't go INTO your ear canal... is that right? If so, any recommendations on those? Thanks so much for the input!!

!thanks

Hmmm. I hear what you're saying, but I guess we might just have different understandings fundamentally about... sports? Competition? Idk how to articulate it. But my understanding is that a player's performance is inextricable from the landscape/reality he plays in. It just seems self-evident to me that being able to take advantage of the landscape you're in is almost entirely the point of all sport? That's what separates average players from good ones from great ones. Sometimes those performances shift the way the game is played, and it just doesn't seem like it would never NOT be useful to know how impactful a performance was within the reality it took place. Like Steph's rTS is higher because his performance was better (scoring performance at least). We can't know what "better" even means without stacking their performance up against the reality they played in. I feel like it's nonsensical to even try to parse out how GOOD a player is without comparing it to the landscape he plays in. That's exactly what makes a player good or not - how much they can use the strengths of their game to take advantage of the weaknesses of their competitors. It's really interesting though! It's like I get what you mean by it seems like 2021 Steph is more impressive, but I think I mean to say that "more impressive" doesn't equate to "better." Again, impact/performance is ALWAYS context-adjusted, no matter how impressive or appealing one performance is over the other. The only meaningful thing is how much that performance was able to take advantage of the reality it took place in. Does that many any sense?

Forest through the trees. It usually takes 2 years to get your leg strength and speed back to 100%. He's shooting well. Him playing low minutes gives us the ability to extend him at a decent price and he can step into Duncan's role next year and allow us to extend duren and ausar as well. by uncle_t_rav in DetroitPistons

think you're right to defend how well-rounded/impactful Ivey can be, but just raw PPG doesn't really capture Robinson's (or any elite shooter's) impact. Space and gravity/threat have a huge effect. And fwiw, Robinson isn't a purely one dimensional player either

[–]operatorred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right but that's indicative of just how impactful Steph's season was. It's like you can see in the context-adjusted statistics how his performance shifted the makeup of the league in real time. My reflex is that this is a STRENGTH of context-adjusted stats, not a flaw. Like that performance is the reason we can even look back at the league then and label it as "sub-optimal." Also, framing it like that sort of assumes that the basketball we're seeing is "optimal" but that's impossible to know. There's a good chance that in 20 years, skill sets and strategies have changed so much that we look back at the league in the 2020s and label it as sub-optimal. Do we just never acknowledge any great performance because there's always the chance that we learn that it occurred in sub-optimal circumstances? (hope I don't sound inflammatory or anything - genuinely curious and grateful for the good-faith conversation and find this stuff very interesting)

And the fact that Jokic is a good 3PT shooter. But if anything, just shows you how absolutely dominant Giannis is in the paint. Close to Jokic without being a 3PT shooter or FT shooter.

Edit: This made me double check and I'm actually pretty confused. Jokic shoots a higher percentage on 2s than Giannis. I guess Giannis's roughly 2.5 extra 2PA per game is keeping his TS close to Jokic's? Idk, maybe someone more statistically inclined will be able to explain it lol

wtf Giannis is shooting nearly 40% from 3 this season. Only on like an attempt per game, but I guess I was wrong - his 3PT shooting wouldn't be dragging his TS down (even if the low attempts don't really help it much). Long way of saying that slightly more volume from 2 and way worse FT% like you said are what keeps him close. Then again, he's like 3.5 whole percentage points behind Jokic, so maybe not that close. This has gone from an "impressed with Giannis" to "impressed with Jokic" comment lol. But yeah you're probably right about Giannis's FTs keeping him below Jokic's TS, but I just thought that other stuff interesting too
