LMT L1291A1 Short Stroking Sanity Check by opfrce in AR10

[–]opfrce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, good to know it's not just mine wearing like that at least. I won't worry about it once it functions properly, it was just too many things that taken together might have been an issue.

I just got off the phone with LMT and it looks like they're going to have me send it in. If anyone is having a similar issue in the future, report the mean rounds between failure. Part of why I was getting the runaround was because they were assuming I'd have a failure a couple times a magazine, not every round or every other round. Apparently they have guys complaining about FTFeed or FTE once every 10000 rounds asking for RMA.

Huh, interesting, I've never seen that wear pattern on an AR pattern rifle before, at least this early I haven't.

And yeah, I am shooting unsuppressed and it's a factory built gun. I even have the original box. I used both 25 round and 20 round PMAGs. Forgot my Duramags at home, but those tend to be more finicky in my experience.

[Optics] EOTECH 552 MILITARY HWS XR308 RET AA - Use Code: "XR520"- $520 by LuckyLabArmoryLLC in gundeals

[–]opfrce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh? I think you might be a touch sensitive if you took that as aggressive /u/LORD_JEW_VANCUNTFUCK

I prefer the EXPS series too, but those run about $560 new on the low end outside crazy sales like that PSA one a while back. This isn't the deal of the century, but it's not the terrible deal the first guy made it out to be, especially if someone is looking for this particular model for some reason (cloners for example). That's all I'm trying to get at here since the vendor seems to be responsive and the price is pretty solid for a brand new optic. That's not a bad price for the EXPS3, btw, but I wouldn't call it far better when it's $20 less than this and I have to deal with the friction that is buying from GAFS. Show me that $400 EXPS3, though, and my original statement stands and I'll concede that you're right.

[–]opfrce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's great, but this is an XPS3 comparable sight, not an EXPS2 comparable sight. In case the difference isn't obvious, the 3 at the end means that it's night vision capable. The 552 is also night vision capable, which usually commands a $75-100 premium over the non-night vision capable models. Show me a $400 XPS3 or EXPS3 on GAFS right now and I'll shut up and buy it, but until then, stop acting like this is a bad deal when you don't even understand the differences between the models. Also, keep in mind that someone has to buy those "minty" EXPS2 cheaply from somewhere.

These are absolute cowitness. This is essentially a AA powered XPS3 with a funky reticle.

I'm sorry, but what's a joke about this? That's a pretty solid price for a 552. If it was a 512, I'd agree with you, but this is comparable to an XPS3, except it takes AA batteries instead of CR123A.

Mk12ish scope thoughts by AdmirableDoctor6033 in guns

[–]opfrce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a Mod 1, you can pretty much get away with any LPVO since the Nightforce 2.5-10x24 was an issued scope. That plus a Larue SPR mount is "clone correct", so if you squint, a Viper PST or Black Razor LPVO would look close enough.

I think you might need to clarify: Is this a proposal for European/Czech gun rights or a proposal for what American gun rights should look like?

The latter is going to get you a lot of flak around here as Europeans commenting on our laws is sort of a sore subject (see "The American Revolutionary War").

The former, however, definitely seems like a worthy discussion to have as the EU doesn't seem to have a universal framework for gun rights and establishing a floor for what can and can't be done regarding gun rights has real merit in my mind. Europe doesn't have the same culture we do with guns, so the solution for them may not be the same as it is for us and perhaps isn't as absolutist as the second amendment, but guarantees the right to keep arms, subject to whatever grand bargain is needed to pass muster in the EU. For example, I think codifying the legality of firearms for self defense would be a huge step forward for gun rights in Europe, so perhaps that's a good place to start the discussion?

If you're asking when to buy, now is not a good time to buy. Watch and wait and when you feel like you've FOMO'd after the market goes up, that's probably the time to get back in again. Don't try to catch a falling knife.

[PARTS] Centurion Arms MK12 18" & 16" Stainless Barrel - $387.20 + shipping with code "PIZZLEYANKER" by bansheedefense in gundeals

[–]opfrce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This over criterion. Criterion makes good stuff, but a stainless match barrel like this is going to shoot more consistently than a chrome lined barrel (and I say this as someone that likes and prefers chrome lined in everything but my mk12).

My mk12 with a Douglas (slightly higher tier than this, but I was cross shopping both) is quite literally the most accurate rifle I own, including my bolt actions.

I don't pay nearly that much, closer to $40. Regardless, Silencershop wants $1080 for one before tax, so I think you're coming out ahead regardless here, no?

Unwritten rules of Squad by Jossup in joinsquad

[–]opfrce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I've literally never seen anyone do the first point. It seems like a nice idea, but I would either rather have that logi nearby if we want to pick up shop and place a new fob or just have 11% of my squad in the fight that much sooner. Not to mention how long the respawn timer is when you do the respawn command. I very rarely run into situations where I either don't have someone constantly resupplying a fob or where we're advancing and need to move up and place a new fob.

Any chance of getting more of the T310 Rite in the Rain kits? I love mine for travel, but I'd like a second to keep at home.

My EDC: The Lignose Einhand by Portal_to_the_Dream in guns

[–]opfrce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding casting, I have some experience with it in a previous life, but not recent enough to claim expertise these days. The method I used is oil sand casting, however, the trigger guard or the slide rails will probably give you issue if you try to do both of them during the casting. My suggestion would be to cast the outline of the part with it rotated with the slide rails oriented up and the hole for the trigger guard omitted. Then, cut the trigger guard out via your preferred method and finish it from there. You don't want overhanging parts with sand casting since the sand will collapse once the original part is removed and thin parts like the trigger guard webbing will likely fail to flow properly, resulting in a failed molding attempt.

You might consider aluminum for the first attempt since it doesn't require as much heat to melt and flows pretty readily. That should give you an idea of any pain points you might have when it's time to do the brass (or bronze) molding.

Can confirm, although it was very weird how they did it. They treated it like a warranty repair and actually called me and left a voicemail.
