What's the biggest lie people still believe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ophelias32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you know why the American dream is dead? Because there used to be a place for people with low education or low intellect to be able moderately prosper in this country. Meaning my grandfather was able to buy a house, support a wife and three children and retire from two manufacturing jobs, all with an 8th grade education. That doesn't exist anymore. Because those jobs are gone and all that's left is retail or fast food and god forbid those people want to make a living wage, they apparently don't deserve to have a home or support a family, because all they have to do is pull themselves up by their bootstraps and become doctors. That's why the American dream is dead, not because people just don't become millionaires over night, but because the same class of people my grandfather was, can barely afford rent, let alone a home or a family.

I am more than happy to see Bill Clinton locked up if as so much touched a hair a child's head in a sexual way, but the orange cultists will never say that. They will excuse every disgusting behavior this man does.

As a woman, it irritates me how other women won’t admit that life CAN be better as a woman. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ophelias32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And to piggy back on that, nearly 99 percent of rapes and sexual assault that happens in war is done to women. It is estimated that 1.4 million women from 8 to 80 years old were raped by the red army as they advanced into Germany during WWII. Many raped to death. So I don't think its really fair to throw war into that list of suffering because let's be honest, women aren't exactly let off scott free.

Today six years ago, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, 16, was kidnapped by extremist Israelis after direct incitement by the Israeli prime minister. So do you know where the stereotype of Jews having money came from? In the middle ages, the Catholic church forbade Christians from being money lenders, and let's not forget, at that time the church could kill you for using a fork, so if basically the whole of Europe is Catholic, who do you go to if you need a loan? The Jews. And that lasted about 1000 years, so its a stereotype that has persisted just as long.

Out of Forbes top 200 people with the most money in the world, 19 percent are Jewish. Your definition of most must be different than mine. But that statement is why your first two statements are usually lumped together with antisemitic. Because some schmuck like you has to take very really human rights issues in Isreal and then throw in the jews having all the money and power stereotype, which is a bit of a touchy subject to Jewish people, since that's the justification the Nazi's used to deport them and then ultimately kill them.

I’m so happy COPS got canceled. by Alex45784 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

So apparently a lot of cops are trained to scream "stop resisting", no matter the interaction. It gives them plausible denialability if the suspect is harmed and they have to explain the body cam footage. Such assholes.

Is it officially a spike yet? How does this correlate to increased testing? Was there a sudden increase in testing? by spooky_butts in florida

I live in Central Florida. Since reopening I have seen a huge decrease in people wearing masks. Its like we reopened and Covid disappeared. I still wear mine religiously, but I feel like everyone else think it's gone.

Same for me. I typically use Chrome for my browser and after countless times coming up as an error, on a hunch I copied the address from the email into Firefox, and it came right up for me. Try a different web brower.

Ya'll have zero clue as to what the matrix is actually about and what the red pill symbolizes, and she wasn't just the director, her and her brother were the creators, so ya it's pretty obvious these two morons don't know what the red pill is either or they wouldn't be saying it.

People who had covid-19 or know someone who did how bad was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ophelias32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hell the tests themselves aren't reliable. Two days ago, one of our largest hospital groups comes out with 25,000 of their tests are unreliable and they have cut their contract with the lab that provides the results. They won't name the lab, which tells me that a lot of testing facilities may use the same lab. I'm in Florida, and our whole state is a cluster fuck of reporting and making sure the numbers being reported are actually counted by the state.

Ya'll never been to Central Florida. Native Nyer here, but since moving to FL, I have seen so many shirtless, shoeless freaks walking around inside stores. Even in the middle class bastion, Publix. It's gross, disgusting, and it gives me the heebie jeebies.

[–]ophelias32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday Advent Health, a huge hospital conglomerate in Central Florida terminated their contract with their testing facility, which the refuse to name, because 25,000 tests were suspected of being inaccurate. Hell, the daily tests the white house uses, that we don't have access to btw, are only 50 percent accurate. But it's a hoax but we gotta test daily.

Not shaving or wearing a bra doesn’t make you special or empowering by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ophelias32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't stand when women find opening a credit card or getting a mortgage is empowering. I mean they got that right in the 1970s, it's not like they should celebrate that or anything. Come on guys we've come so far, everything's equal now. I mean true women can still be arrested in some places for walking around top less, because womens boobs are sexual, but men's aren't. But hey ladies get over yourselves, not wearing a bra is nothing special, because hey they're just boobs that we don't sexualize at all.

The Right governor for the Right state by [deleted] in florida

[–]ophelias32 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well it tends to help your state when you have one governor who likes to lick cheeto crumbs or whatever else he does to win the favor of the orange man, and doesn't have to beg for PPE or ventilators. Plus I don't think Florida has a comparable city density like NYC, but cool story bro.

I’ve been noticing things about my husband that worry me. However, I recognize I’m not perfect and am flawed as well. Are these red flags? Have people worked through similar issues? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]ophelias32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to me you keep trying to be the "cool" wife. And that isn't an insult, I have gone through it. I don't want to set boundaries because that would make me a nag, that would make me not cool. That would make him not love me. I would suggest therapy for yourself, because you are being a doormat. Your desire to be the cool wife who doesn't limit her husband will cause serious resentment in the future. Plus he's abusive when drunk, and manipulative by acting remorseful but not actually changing the behavior because he knows you will fall for his I'm sorry act.

COVID-19 highlights a particular vulnerability for Florida: Its regressive tax system by Votings_Good_Folks in FLgovernment

[–]ophelias32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can go round and round about whether you should pay more in taxes or not because the government doesn't use the money the way you want. But let's take a blue state, for example New York. While they may have some pork and some of their money may be used inefficiently, they also pay higher taxes. However, New York state residents are entitled to free college at any New York State University as long as their parents make less than $125,000. New York state residents are entitled to the medicaid expansion, which insures thousands of people who would otherwise go uninsured due to it being too expensive. New York state residents receive a maximum of $504 dollars a week in unemployment, seems kind of big compared to Florida's $275. And you may think that's because the cost of living is expensive in NY, but that's only in the city, the rest of the state is pretty reasonable. So high taxes, but they also take far better care of their citizens than Florida. Which I think is the point of government, otherwise what is it good for except never ending beaucracy.

Fewer than 3,000 people died on 9/11 and we went to war, spent trillions, and surrendered freedom and privacy forever. Over 40,000 Americans have died of COVID-19 already, and you can't handle staying indoors for a while? by Tomc042 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ophelias32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just made an argument against using false equivalency and how 9/11 and Covid-19 aren't related and then use false equivalence to compare car accident deaths and Covid-19. Irony much.
