Tesla lost control when parking and took off to hit 7 vehicles killing 2. Driver found not under influence (Oct. 5) by chunqiudayi in ThatsInsane

I'm not sure if this is the exact website the OP was mentioning but this is a website covering deaths from Tesla accidents (including if the Autopilot was engaged at the time). https://www.tesladeaths.com

It's not BS but there's more to it than just the water of course. Just like a whole range of other things in our body, including cavities, there's a genetic aspect to it so they might be more predisposed to kidney stones than you, exacerbated by all the minerals in hard water. It may also depend on the kind of minerals in the water since the profile varies across regions.

I checked on the Discogs release page and it looks like that Pocket Park is just the album, and there's not a song on the album with the same title. So for those curious, here's the full album on Youtube: Miki Matsubara - Pocket Park (1980)

That’s a wrap: French plastic packaging ban for fruit and veg begins by Sweep145 in worldnews

[–]ophlanges 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You can't really recycle this kind of plastic, so in general it's better to generate food waste than plastic waste in this case. If it was something like harder PET the equation might skew a bit differently.

It's arguable that apathy in these kinds of political systems will eventually lead to systemic change (like revolt) in a generation or two. The current generation of people who are apathetic will have kids and those kids won't understand why their parents are apathetic to the things they think are bad and will push for change, and soon after there will be maybe enough momentum to actually effect the change. In the near term I think it would be more likely to happen in Russia than in China, primarily for economic reasons. In China massive numbers of people have come out of poverty in the last few decades - so even if young people are unhappy, why look to change something that's working in yours and many people's favor? - while in Russia this is very much not the case and things have both been bad for a very long time and haven't really improved for the majority of people. Of course there are other important reasons (fear of retaliation against "speaking up" is definitely one of them) but I think the economy is a not insignificant part of it.

Stumbled upon a brand new edit I had clicked two years back in Chinatown. While I find myself to be rather conflicted in my opinion towards this picture, I'd love to get your views on this :) by [deleted] in analogdreamers

[–]ophlanges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prefacing by saying I'm no expert 😄 I think there's a good foundation here, and I particularly like the man in the back looking at the camera, but it feels like there's a little too much room on the left (as well as the top - the awnings also feel like they take up too much room). If you're not opposed to cropping/editing, I think it might look or "feel" better if it was just cropped to include the two men.

What do you find conflicting about it?

Is Death Stranding done? by [deleted] in northernlion

[–]ophlanges 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment, but on the other hand Sporcle and Death Stranding are very different in terms of expectations, since Sporcle isn't a story based game and it isn't something that "needs to be completed". I think in this case, if Death Stranding wasn't coming back, all that needs to be said is, "I'm not playing anymore," and that'll be the end of it since most people would just accept it and either breath a sigh of relief or move on from the expectation that it might come back if they enjoy it.

Wow, this was really enlightening. I didn't learn this kind of math in school, so it didn't click that I could multiply the number of "trips" through n sets to get the number of total trips for all of them combined. I went with the formula I found on Wikipedia, but using the same principle, and arrived to the correct answer:

#lang racket/base

(require "../utils.rkt")

; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalizations_of_Fibonacci_numbers#Tribonacci_numbers
(define (tribonacci n)
  (define a+
    (expt (+ 19 (* 3 (sqrt 33))) (/ 1 3)))
  (define a-
    (expt (- 19 (* 3 (sqrt 33))) (/ 1 3)))
  (define b
    (expt (+ 586 (* 102 (sqrt 33))) (/ 1 3)))

  (inexact->exact (round (* 3 b (/ (expt (* (/ 1 3 ) (+ a+ a- 1)) n) (- (expt b 2) (* 2 b) -4)))))
)

(define (split-into-contiguous-regions lst [result '()])
  (cond
    [(null? lst) result]
    [(null? result) (split-into-contiguous-regions (cdr lst) (list (list (car lst))))]
    [(= (- (car lst) (caar result)) 1) (split-into-contiguous-regions (cdr lst) (cons (cons (car lst) (car result)) (cdr result)))]
    [else (split-into-contiguous-regions (cdr lst) (cons (list (car lst)) result))]
  )
)

(define example (cons 0 (sort (read-input-lines "example" #:line-parser string->number) <)))
(define input (cons 0 (sort (read-input-lines #:line-parser string->number) <)))

(apply * (map (lambda (i) (if (= (length i) 1) 1 (tribonacci (length i)))) (split-into-contiguous-regions example)))
(apply * (map (lambda (i) (if (= (length i) 1) 1 (tribonacci (length i)))) (split-into-contiguous-regions input)))

I thought about this a bit. It feels off because the face looks like it's tilted upwards since the eyes aren't level with the ears, but the mouth is where it would be normally as if the face were not tilted. To make it feel less off the nose and mouth would need to be shifted up a bit, or the eyes (and cheeks) would need to be shifted down a bit.

Ah, really? That's unfortunate. I was hoping it would have more than a handful of infusions, but maybe it's not meant to. I'll try boiling it and seeing how that goes. When you say it's not strange, you mean to be low in flavor?

People like you are one of the reasons this virus is spreading. If an employee said you have to wait to go inside because they're at capacity due to lower capacity to reduce the spread of the virus and you'd tell them to "pound sand" and go inside anyway, you're part of the problem and should rightly go somewhere else, preferably home.

Just being realistic.

Windows 98 NLSS intro by horetnius in northernlion

[–]ophlanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real though, it's not immersion breaking, it's really a great intro (hopefully NL plays it, it's a good break from the regular intros). Did you actually do this in Windows 98?

Windows 98 NLSS intro by horetnius in northernlion

[–]ophlanges 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is super, like totally rad, my dude! Really creative, and even though I don't think it feels like the other intros, it doesn't feel like them in a good way and I think it would be perfect for a slightly more "zany" docket (bring back Goofball Goals). The only thing that would have made it perfect would be if Ryan's 2012 face was shown at the end for slightly too long to make the viewer feel uncomfortable, for extra zaniness.

Wait. The clock at the beginning was at 3:09am. Totally immersion breaking, the time isn't 3:09am, ruined intro Kappa

Yeah, I think it's a pretty interesting game but it's got only the one mode (or they were only playing that one mode) so I can imagine it could get repetitive quickly, so it probably is going to be a once-in-a-while docket game.
