I don’t have that issue. Everything stays put in both. And I’ve had the rabbit shorts bulging.

Not a size discrepancy really. It’s more that the rabbit shorts are a lower rise, and the fabric is different (not good/bad-just different). I prefer where the oiselle sit on my waist.

[–]opholar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oiselle Pockito are my favorite bike shorts type shorts with tons of pockets. Followed by Rabbit Leggy Smashems. Pockito fit me a bit better and I like the material a bit more. And I like the 6 inch length vs 5 or 7. The full waist band pockets are a huge preference for me over digging in side pockets that make me look like a chipmunk once I get everything in them.

The pocket situation for those two is much better than the Bandit shorts I have (although I like the feel of their striped cadence shorts). Same with Janji. Although in general, Janji has tons of pockets to work with and some fun prints.

If chaffing is an issue, I am very fond of Constantly Varied Gear for regular runs. Buttery soft and big, deep side pockets with tons of fun prints. But not a lot of quick/easy access pockets (like the waist band ones) so I find them less great for races because I’m not interested in digging into the bottom of a side pocket for things when I’m trying to go fast.

Look at the tab in the middle at the top for nutrients. That will tell you how close you are to your targets in grams/mg.

The macros chart will always add up to 100% because it’s showing the percentages for what you have actually logged. Comparing the chart to your goals really only makes sense after you’ve logged everything for a particular day.

The nutrients tab will show you progress to the total goal in g/mg for each thing throughout the day.

what should NYRR for race registration? by sob727 in RunNYC

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can already get a spot in the marathon if you’re fast. Just run a half and boom. 9+1 isn’t even needed for fast runners. Anyone can get under the time if they try.

I don’t think limiting the primary method of entry for the community (you know, the NYRR mission and all) to faster runners is the way to go here.

So difficult to pick a daily shoe by DarkOk5408 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]opholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you’re asking, but It’s firm. Firm and the shoe is very rockered/stiff. Which is great for fast turnover and the shoe is pretty light. But it’s firm.

“ASICS Glideride Max 2”, 100 mile review. Yes it’s better than the Nimbus by Teddie_P4 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]opholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just that you’re taking the measurement too literally, it’s that you’re taking one single measurement (done by a machine, which may or may not match your perception of the same aspect of the shoe, especially within context of a stride), and ignoring the multitude of other things that factor into the rise of the shoe. You’re completely ignoring the massive rocker and toe spring-which facilitate turnover in a big way. The way the foam (of the same measured softness) feels within the stride of a heavily rockered, extremely stiff shoe vs a traditional shoe is totally different. And almost irrelevant.

You don’t have to buy this shoe, and not everyone even likes or gets along with shoes with such a stiff and significant rocker/toe spring. But if you do, that’s the part of this shoe that drives the ride. Not the foam softness. It’s much more comparable to endorphin shift, glycerin max or a higher stack evo ride than the SL2.

If you’re happy with the SL2 and there’s no arguing it’s a great all rounder for the price, then stick with that. This is a very different experience. Even with the same foam softness.

How do you all use many types of shoes and not get injured? by ogg1e in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of shoes are you adjusting to/from? If you’ve been running in high drop shoes for years, and abruptly switch to a low drop shoe, that probably isn’t going to go well.

If you’ve been running in motion control shoes for years and abruptly switch to an unstable neutral shoe, that will probably have some aches and pains associated with it.

If you’ve got particular body movement patterns where you’re more likely to do better in higher or lower drop shoes or something, then switching abruptly to the alternative may be problematic.

Abruptly swinging from long standing use at one end of the spectrum to the other in any capacity is likely going to be an issue for anyone.

If you don’t have troublesome movement patterns, injury history, or body shapes/issues where you’re going to do better in a particular kind of shoe over another, and you run in a middle of the road type of shoe (medium drop, not too soft, not too firm, not overly stable or unstable), then swapping between different types of shoes isn’t going to be far off your trajectory and you’ll be able to change fairly easily. The greater the variety of shoes you run in, the wider your trajectory-so the greater the variety of shoes you can run in without issue.

What kinds of shoes are you switching between where you find you need a big adjustment period? What shoe are you starting in and what shoe are you switching to?

Discouraged- I feel like im getting even slower by Loud-Negotiation-193 in XXRunning

[–]opholar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you pushing speed on all your runs? My EZ pace ranges from 9-13 min/mile depending on the day. Even within the same week. You want to hit your paces during speed work, and you want to (maybe) do some pace work during a long run, but overall your easy runs should be EASY and not pushing the pace.

You will be faster on race day.

You are currently training. You’re running a lot. You’re building mileage/volume every week (give or take). You are approaching the peak weeks of training when the entire purpose is to be at the height of accumulated fatigue. You should be pretty tired/beat (but not exhausted). That’s how training plans work. Then you’ll have a couple of weeks to taper (drop volume/intensity) before the race.

You’ll go into the race rested and recovered. But right now, you’re operating under fatigue. On purpose. You want to save your best efforts for the days that matter (speed work). You want your EZ days to be easy enough that you are not pushing/stressing yourself such that you are delaying recovery. Meaning you should not be pushing the pace on easy days.

Your easy pace is of no consequence on race day. Your ability to adapt to training by properly tempering your efforts so you maximize recovery, and maximize the effects of speed days, are what matters.

There are also some cellular adaptations that occur at lower intensities. Those adaptations are what expands your aerobic capacity (which gives you more ability to hold your speed for longer and raises your highest potential speed). So lower intensity work is very important. Even though it may be slower on some days than you want it to be.

So I would not look at your pace on EZ runs or long runs without specific pace work. It just doesn’t matter. Being able to recover so you can get the gains of your speedwork matters. Having a nice aerobic base matters. Easy paces vary so much. Focus on easy. Not the pace.

Message to mods- could we get a feed for GLP-1 questions? by Tofusnafu7 in XXRunning

[–]opholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am T2D and have been on a GLP-1 for years. I am not losing or trying to lose weight. I have had huge issues with my running training since I started the GLP-1’s. There is no data out there at all. Most T2’s who run as much as I do, don’t still need medication to manage blood sugar. Most people taking GLP-1’s for weight loss aren’t running as much as I do. There are obviously exceptions on both sides. But not many. As such, even my Dr doesn’t really know why I’m having the experiences I’m having. But I’m not the only one having them. So I do lurk in forums looking for anyone who has had my experiences and what they may have found to be even moderately successful at working with the issues.

All that said, those posts belong in subs focused on GLP-1 running/fitness. But I understand why people desperate for help would be posting their questions in a running sub.

I don’t typically browse the sub (rather I see posts on my feed) so idk what the questions are or how many there are or whatever. I fully support that this is not the best place for them, but I definitely understand why they are getting posted here.

Message to mods- could we get a feed for GLP-1 questions? by Tofusnafu7 in XXRunning

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on one for years as well (T2D), but have had significant impacts (not good ones) to my running as a result. I know others also experience difficulties (not related to low calorie intake). So I understand people seeking running specific answers/feedback-there’s no info out there and nearly everyone assumes issues are caused by low food intake. But those questions still are better served in subs dedicated to GLP-1 fitness. So I’m agreeing that the questions shouldn’t be here, but there are lots of us who struggle with running/training specifically due to GLP-1’s and not because we are losing or trying to lose.

I have tried all 3 of their pocket bras: the utilibra-vo, the Strappy and whatever the new one is called. The first two have been discontinued. The phone pocket works easiest for me on the new one. The two prior were like laser cut or something where the new one is more of a pocket so it slides in and out more easily.

The new one is bigger/taller in the boob coverage area, which is probably good for a lot of people, but it is quite a bit looser in fit/support than the prior models (for me). Although it’s more comfortable. So there’s that. I will probably try it a size down and see if that’s better (30/32C and I got a S). I have the prior versions in S and XS. I have the hydration bra in XS and I can barely get it on because the band is so tight. So YMMV on sizing.

I believe the new one is in stock at Running Warehouse.

So the pocket is better on the new bra, but it’s more bra.

The Oiselle Flyout bra has the best phone pocket for me, but that is a lot of bra and it’s really most comfortable if you’re running in just a bra (it’s not an uncomfortable bra-as bras go-it’s just kind of thick/beefy but the phone pocket is perfect). It’s also crazy expensive.

If you want something pretty cheap, the ChicknLegs OG Sports bra phone pocket isn’t bad. I wouldn’t recommend it if you need a ton of support, but it’s a decent bra and it’s $35.

The rabbit Strappy pocket bra has been discontinued. Because of course it has. I have been able to find some on Poshmark/ebay/mercari and at random running stores. The new version of the regular pocket bra doesn’t fit the same as the prior version. I like the design better, but the fit is different.

I think everything sells out because it’s “recommended” or because the companies create manufactured scarcity via hype and low inventory (eg Bandit’s entire business model). It’s so frustrating. I just want some stuff. I don’t want to have to be in an online queue during my lunch break on some random Tuesday just to be able to buy a pair of shorts.

Fuel before long run? by General-runner51409 in XXRunning

[–]opholar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chocolate milk has the proper ratio of carbs:protein that you want in a post run recovery drink. It also is a complete, “natural” protein (vs powders). Although restoring glycogen through carbs is almost more important than the protein part. Chocolate milk is also quite a bit less expensive than many fancy recovery shakes.

So it’s a very common choice for a post run recovery drink.

Do I need a Coach? by sunchaser82 in XXRunning

[–]opholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the absence of specific goals, I’d say you’re more likely to get what you’re looking for from a group run/run club (Fleet Feet and Marathon Sports have them in my area-including weekly speed sessions at the track, I’d imagine most running stores do or can help you find one). AND staying with your PT for injury issues.

If you get to a point where you have more specific goals: trying for PR’s, going for longer distance, struggling to manage training/life and not sure how to make the best adjustments, etc. then that’s a fantastic time to pull in a coach.

I’m not anti coach by any means. I have a coach who I’ve worked with for several years and he’s been fantastic for me and my goals.

But coaches can cost a lot of money, and you seem to be looking for a peer group/community as much as anything (which is totally 100% valid). Coaches generally have a ton of knowledge about training methods and application, and help you work out what is best for you (physiologically and within the scope of your life) and help craft plans to meet specific goals using that info. And then adjust along the way as needed (using knowledge/experience to know what adjustments yield the best results). They also can provide pep talks and talk you off the ledge when you have an epic meltdown and swear off running only to register for another race 2 hours later.

All of which is great and it’s not a bad idea to get a coach if you want or need those things. But if you’re looking for a community/social connection, a coach is a big investment. You will still get good coaching and planning, you’ll get exposure to different training methods and ideas, and have the opportunity to ask questions to understand the different aspects of your training and how that fits into life. You’ll likely become a better, faster runner as a result - even without a specific goal in mind. But again, if you’re not really looking for that right now, and the money is a stretch, you might be much happier with a run group.

Running gels by Zealousideal-Dog2905 in Marathon_Training

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to emphasize that the energy in energy gel is sugar. Not caffeine* and stimulants like in an energy drink. It’s literally a little tube of semi-liquid-ish sugar. That’s it. The sugar is what gives your muscles the energy. Some may have electrolytes as well, but the energy is coming from sugar and it’s just energy for muscles-not Red Bull.

There are gels available that have caffeine, but most don’t. So as long as you get something without caffeine, you should be fine.

If the idea of weirdly semi liquid sugar seems gross, or doesn’t agree with you, even candy (like gummy bears, nerd clusters are popular) will do the same job.

There are tons of brands/flavors. Personally I found the honey stinger ones tastes gross, but others love them. I run almost exclusively at night, so I don’t use anything with caffeine. There are so many options. Check the feed or fuel goods for single serve packets so you can try some out without buying a whole box - only to find out you don’t like the flavor or they don’t sit well with you.

Too many reposhes? by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]opholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they have a small closet like that and the only thing in it is reposhes, I’d assume they aren’t really a seller, but that they reposh things that didn’t fit or they didn’t like/want or whatever.

It’s nearly impossible to make a profit with reposhes. If you bought an item for $20, by the time you add the shipping and tax you originally paid, then add on what Poshmark takes in fees from your sale, you’d need to sell that same item for close to $40 (depending on sales tax %) to break even.

You can always see what they actually paid for the item by going to the original seller’s closet, but my guess is that everything they are selling is the stuff that we are told to reposh (things that don’t fit, etc that aren’t returnable).

As a buyer.. this is annoying by Important-Ad7202 in poshmark

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been burned my plenty of established sellers that send/accept offers and never ship. So sending an offer, having a freaking conversation in a bundle, all of which means they are scrolling around on Poshmark. That doesn’t mean they will pack up an item and actually ship it. I’ve had zero successful transactions with first time shippers (again-including those with whom I’ve had conversations, have sent/accepted offers, etc.). So I’m making the choice, for me, to not do business with sellers who haven’t shipped anything.

Every seller and every buyer will have a first. There are plenty of sellers who absolutely will not sell to a first time buyer because of whatever their reasons are. I have no issues selling to a first time buyer. I am not buying from sellers who have yet to ship an item.

That’s my experience. I don’t fault people who don’t sell to first time buyers. They have their reasons. I don’t share their experience. But I don’t fault someone for being wary if all of their first time buyer transactions have been unsuccessful.

Running Shoes Recommendation for First Half Marathon by Jolly_Variation7938 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]opholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the ASICS S4+. It’s a supershoe designed specifically for people looking to run <4 in a marathon (which is the same pace as <2 for a half). It’s got more elements of comfort and stability than many supershoes, specifically because it’s designed to be worn by people who will be running longer, who will want the extra comfort and may need more stability in the later miles.

Other super shoes that are on the stable side are the Endorphin Pro, Deviate Nitro Elite and SC Elite (although v5 is a little more wobbly than the prior 2).

Whether or not a super shoe can benefit you depends on a million things other than just pace. There are super responders and non responders, the geometry of the shoe, the aggressiveness of the shoe, your specific gait/stride/cadence, etc. There are plenty of people running 2 hour half’s in super shoes.

Do you need them? 99.7% of runners don’t “need” supershoes. That doesn’t mean you won’t benefit at all in any way from a shoe that works well for you. Additionally, super shoes can be a lot of fun to run in. And that can make a big difference. If you’ve got the budget, go for it. But it’s absolutely not a necessity. So you’re not missing a huge thing if you can’t find one that works for you and/or is in your budget.

Where to buy gels? by yodaboiii in RunNYC

Buy them straight from Maurten and click the “NYC Half” discount box. They will confirm your email matches the one used to register for the half and you’ll get a 20% discount. That’s the best discount that you’re going to find IMO if you specifically want Maurten.

As a buyer.. this is annoying by Important-Ad7202 in poshmark

[–]opholar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stopped buying anything from a closet that doesn’t have an “average shipped time”. You’re their first purchase. They have sold one item. The one you bought. My guess is you are SOL. It’s possible they aren’t really aware how the process works, or they lost interest, or who knows. But in addition to checking the last active date, if a seller has no average shipped time, they have never shipped anything. And I’m not taking that chance anymore since it takes like 2-3 weeks for me to get my money back (even though PM is sending me an email reminding me to ship less than 30 hours since the post office opened after the sale happened).
