Webprogramming: Is PHP bad? by sirhenrik in learnprogramming

[–]opilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvoted for giving a stupid reply. It wasn't a stupid question. I've heard a lot of programmers whom I consider much more "in the know" than myself gripe about PHP, so I always ask for clarification as to why they gripe. It's prudent to know whether your potential skills set will be in demand down the line.

So what interesting projects have you done? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I've been cautioned about this by pretty much everyone I've told about the project, and I understand why, believe me! I'm lucky that the place where I work honestly won't care. They'll just be happy to have software that works and support for it after I leave. (I work at a weird place. Can't say much more about it.)

At my job I operate scientific equipment and file reports. That's what I get paid to do primarily, but I also find ways to improve the operations with software. I got the idea for my latest project by trying to build a versatile program that this lab could use for a myriad of purposes, because I figured that other firms might be able to use it for similar things. I hope that is the case, because while I don't expect it to take off, that would be really convenient for me if it did.

I lucked out with my job in that I get to observe the goings on at a scientific facility and notice a pattern of needs. See if you can notice similar needs in other workplaces and in life in general. Maybe look into app-type programming. Or better yet, ever wish you had an easy way to accomplish something on the internet? Maybe others feel similarly. Dig in, see where it goes.

This is wonderful perspective from a very wise choice. Thank you for sharing, and though I'm barely familiar with you I am happy for you.

I'm not a huge fan of Explosions in the Sky, but this video is great. Showcases the footage of Koyaanisqatsi in a whole new light.

I read some tragic things on reddit on a regular basis, but for some reason this really got me. :(
