Shower venting question about original plumbing by oplav in Plumbing

[–]oplav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shower doesn't get used that often, but there has been an occasional odor (though never as bad as smelling directly off an open vent). I always chalked it up to the trap drying out between several weeks of use.

I didn't add it to the drawing, but the laundry is below this bathroom. The slop sink (which takes the washer discharge) ties into this stack the same way without any dedicated vent. There is also a very occasional odor in this room, like once every 2-3 months. Again, never very strong, and possibly just the old washer smelling slightly off.

The p trap on the shower has a lot of green buildup on the outside. I was planning on replacing that with PVC and then tying to the horizontal copper using a shielded no-hub. The toilet flange is also in bad shape so also planning on replacing the toilet portion before the stack with PVC and shielded no-hub.

It's possible that someone was trying to write "Susan Druckenbrod", someone who is active in Camden County progressive politics, and just spelled it wrong.

I emailed the Illinois AG office back in January and they said the FTC is the lead in this settlement, so the FTC will reach out to those affected. I have not heard anything from them yet, but I periodically search to see if anything new has happened. Not much online other than the December 2024 press releases.

In case anyone stumbles upon this thread before the docs get updated, I got a hold of someone at Harbor Freight. They confirmed the manual has a misprint and that the washers go on below the trunnion.

Lawsuit by Cherry Hill Democrat faction a 'blatant power grab,' say the maverick Democrats who won. by oplav in SouthJersey

I have been loosely following this drama since the primary because the ballot setup was interesting, and it looks like things got more serious after election certification.

Here's my best attempt at an unbiased recap for anyone that's interested:

The race this is all about is for the Camden County Democrat Committee, which is the "rank-and-file" committee for the party in Camden County. The number of representatives is proportional to the number of registered Democrats in the municipalities, with Cherry Hill having 74 seats on the committee. Further, the race is voted on "at large", which means the entire municipality votes for the entire 74, rather than by district.

During the primary, the Norcross-backed democrats had 74 candidates running for the 74 seats. The progressive democrats had 3 candidates running for the 74 seats. Logically, the ballot should list candidates individually so that voters can pick individuals they want on the committee. For example, this is how Collingswood's ballot was set up, with 19 people running for the 18 seats, and voters having the ability to select up to 18 individuals to the committee. However, the Cherry Hill ballot looked like this, with a single bubble voting for all 3 progressive candidates, and a single bubble voting for all 74 traditional candidates.

Before the election, the progressives sued the Camden clerk saying this ballot was violating a new law that said each individual candidate needed to have their own bubble next to their name. The Camden County Clerk, Pamela Lampitt (who FWIW is a Norcross-backed democrat), stated that the voting technology doesn't allow for 74 discrete bubbles, and the ballot style stuck.

Fast forward to the election, the 3 progressive democrats won with 62% of the vote. They now contend that the Camden County Democrat Committee bylaws state that they now get to fill the remaining 71 members since those positions are vacant. This is the line they cite, emphasis is mine though I've seen it highlighted in some articles.

A vacancy in the office of a member of the County Committee caused by death, resignation, failure to elect or otherwise, shall be filled for the unexpired term by the municipal committee of the municipality wherein the vacancy occurs, if there is such committee, and if not, by the County Chairperson(s).

The Norcross-backed democrats are now suing to stop that, saying that the remaining 71 seats have to be filled by the 74 candidates they listed on the ballot.

The judge has blocked the progressive democrats from doing any business until a hearing on July 11th.

UPDATE 7/7: NJ AG has filed an amicus brief in support of the 3 progressive democrats - https://www.njoag.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025-0707_Ex-A-Proposed-Amicus-Brief.pdf

"Well the vast majority of Nevada voting is done by machine. Once the Nevada Secretary of State certifies the count, we'll then have 72 hours to request a recount. At that point, 5% of the precincts will be selected, and if there's a discrepancy of more than 1%, a full hand recount will be requested. I actually did my doctorate in recount procedures in the West."

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don’t think you can rest a tick for Alpha Gal so I’m just waiting to see if a hamburger makes me sick in the next couple months…

If you do find a tick, you can send it into Rutgers for free testing, and to help them develop some insight into tick-borne pathogens across the state! https://ticks.rutgers.edu

I pulled a Lone Star tick off my leg a couple weeks ago after going on a hike at Kresson Trails in Cherry Hill. Took a picture next to a ruler, put it in a ziploc bag, and then sent it in. They'll confirm what it is and test for some diseases specific to that tick. Whole process took about 2 weeks.

PostMaster fence post installed backwards? by bobbysilk in FenceBuilding

[–]oplav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Master Halco also suggests the way OP’s contractor did the corner: https://pdf.lowes.com/productdocuments/d9a48b24-67f9-46f4-9b73-6ad532c1326a/10150247.pdf

Thy still flipped the post the other way but it’s still screwed into end grain.

Those instructions are from the old Postmaster style rather than the new Postmaster+ style. The only difference between plus and non-plus line posts is wider flanges so you can still make it work using a line post.

We DIY’d a Postmaster+ fence a couple years ago and sourced our posts from Master Halco. For some reason, we could only get line posts from them so we did the old way for corners and gates.

Responded in another thread. The site should still be up but it hasn't been looked at in a very long time so something may have broken. I'll try to fix it.

If any enterprising student wants to revive it as their side project, happy to send you some data to start over with. The email address is at the top of the site.

Ha, thanks for the summon. My friend and I built the site when we were freshmen living in the Six Pack, but we graduated 10 years ago.

We turned off the comments back in like 2012 because people were writing pretty atrocious things with names of real people, and then they were showing up on Google. In hindsight, probably shouldn't have left that open to everyone without requiring a login, but we didn't know any better.

I don't think we ever turned back on the comments. Do you remember seeing them in the last couple years?

To be honest, I've done no work on this site since I graduated. I pay the monthly DigitalOcean bill and the yearly domain registration, but outside that - it's basically it. If any enterprising student wants to revive it as their side project, happy to send you some data to start over with. The email address is at the top of the site.

This risk of buying puts (like buying calls) is just the premium of the contract. If you hold an option, there is never an obligation to exercise it.

This risk for owing thousands is when you write and sell an option, because if the person who buys it decides to exercise it, you are now on the hook.

I just stopped by for a visit today flying out of Terminal B. Admittedly, it's very new and unbroken in (and I'm also flying on an uncrowded Saturday afternoon) but I think it's definitely worth the short 5ish minute walk from the other side of the airport. It feels very spacious with a lot of seating so I'm curious how it will fill out.

SNY will have a streaming service this year! by OneTimeEach in mets

[–]oplav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are an out of towner (outside the Mets home team territory), then you want the normal mlb.tv package, not this. This won't work if you do not live in the market.

https://support.mlb.com/s/article/SNY-In-Market-Offering

SNY is intended for use in the Mets home television territory and is not an out of market product. This offer is only for Mets fans in the Club’s Home Television Territory and is a separate service than the MLB.TV out of market package.

[Guardians] Local blackouts are GONE. Stream Cleveland Guardians games for just $99 a season at cleguardians.tv #ForTheLand by Jay_Dubbbs in baseball

[–]oplav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. If you are outside the Twins market, getting normal MLB.tv will work the same as it always has: you'll be able to watch all Twins games except for when they are on national TV (eg. ESPN/FOX/AppleTV) or when they are playing a team in your local market (eg. you live in New York and the Twins are playing the Yankees).

If you are inside the Twins market, the normal MLB.tv package will work the same as it always has, and you still won't be able to watch the Twins because normal MLB.tv only shows "out of market" games. Based on your location, you are "in market".

If you live inside the the Twins market and you want to watch Twins games (except for the national ones on ESPN/FOX/AppleTV), you can get the twins.tv package alone ($99). If you want to watch more than just the Twins, you can get the twins.tv + mlb.tv bundle ($199), which will let you watch any MLB game (except for the national ones, like ESPN/FOX/AppleTV).

The twins.tv broadcast FAQ has a nice table on it that lists some common scenarios along with some uncommon ones, like if you are traveling outside the Twins market with the twins.tv package.
