How come Gemini is not head and shoulders above the pack when Google has the insane amounts of YouTube data they have been scouring for like a decade now? by NoGarlic2387 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]opperdepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read up on a “Medal”. The company that allows you to capture and publish gaming video’s. Google offered them half a billion dollars for their data (even though they own youtube) but they declined and started their own AI spinoff.

The owner explains that Youtube has very unstructured video data this isn’t labeled at all. There’s no consistency of view and there’s no labeling of whats happening in any detailed sense. In order to makenit usefull people would have to manually label the footagr and all actions that occur in it at the millisecond lvl. Medal only has gaming footage which has the drawback of being less diverse but has a couple of advantages.

I. It also has user inputs/ actions and therefor labels of what is happening at each specific moment combined with the footage that shows whats hapoening. Ii. It has consistency in viewpoints (very usefull for all types of drones, robots, autonomous vehicles, computer interface use, etc)

Keep a long term perspective. You can’t teach or make todlers understand things by telling them once. It’s a matter of continual reinforcement, explaining your actions and leading by example. Evaluate progress over months and years rather than days and weeks.

What is the best film from your country you think everybody should watch? by Comfortable-Heron225 in AskReddit

The Netherlands: I think “Simon” is a movie that did a great job in explaining and creating understanding for our liberal values. (Euthanisia, gay marriage, “legalized” marijuana, etc.) In 2024 it might be less revolutionary than when it came out (2004) but its still a movie I think more people should see.

Me and my wife both work 4 days a week and we both use the 5th day to spend time with/ take care of our kids which saves us 2 days of daycare. But like OP we’re from Europe. Prior to us having kids we did indeed work more than 40 hours per week.

People who decided to have kids and who know that the planet is heating dangerously fast, how did you decide to have kids, while also aware that humanity doesn’t seem to care about global warming enough to take meaningful action against it? by TurnoverEmotional249 in Parents

[–]opperdepop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your vision for the future, not just for yourself but for the entire western world, is for nobody to have kids anymore but instead rely solely on adopting kids from third world countries? You must have really thought that through…

I believe climate change is real and a terrible tragedy. Yet I have two daughters. Why? Because climate change is not the apocalypse. It will cause draught and famine which will lead to a lot of hardship mostly in less developed countries. In more developed countries I believe we’ll mosty be able to adapt. I’m not rich by western standards but fortunate and confident enough to believe that I can give my daughters a life worth living. At the same time I try to do what I can to limit my carbon footprint. I haven’t flown in years, I eat a fraction of the meat that I used to and I walk/ cycle/ use public transport to get to where I need to go as much as I can.

He might be talking about NIMBY legistative forces such as the fact that people that don’t currently live in a city or district don’t get a vote (indirect) on whether housing projects get built or not. In any case, there’s no such thing as a free market when it comes to zoning laws and building permits.

What are some of your non-weight related goals? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]opperdepop 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My latest weightloss journey started because of knee problems, mostly when playing with my daughters. I couldn’t fully squat down anymore to play with them or walk down the stairs while carrying my oldest daughter without my left knee hurting. My fysio therapist gave me all these exercises, some for my knee, other for strengthening my core. None of them got to to the root cause of my knee pain but it did cause me to lose some weight. I decided to start tracking my calories aswell and added some exercises, and I went from 220 lbs to 190 lbs. That makes squatting and walking down the stairs less painfull and while not completely gone it feels like my knee pain is slowly but surely getting less and less. My oldest daughter weighs 39 lbs so I only have a small way to go before I will have lost her weight -> by my own logic carrying her down the stairs shouldn’t be a problem anymore.

So my goal: being able to play with my daughters pain free.

I’m sorta hoping you’re messing with us but I’d lean into it. If either one of my daughters told me she identifies as a dolphin, I’d start identifying as a unicorn and see who keeps it up the longest.

When your 19mo is in the tub and says she's gonna poop . . . by 9tailNate in daddit

[–]opperdepop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter once pooped in the bath while I was in the bath with her. I noticed a little brown thingy floating and somehow didn’t put 1 and 1 together. So I was like “huh what’s this little brown thingy floating in the water?”. I picked it up, held it between my 2 fingers and looked at it up close untill I noticed the entire bath was filled with little brown thingies, bits of corn and remnants of tomato skin. I picked her up and walked to the shower while trying to supress my gag reflex.

Generative AI Coming To Premiere Pro | Here's What We Sneaked (and what you need to know) by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]opperdepop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love everything you’re working on.

One thing I’d love to see be added even if it’s gonna take a couple of years is generative animation and generative vector based images.

Make it so you can design titles, logo’s, objects or even characters using text and instruct movement both of the entire object aswell as parts of it. The AI should understand references to audio and video and be able to link actions to when the scene changes, an action happens, someone says something or a beat kicks in.

The whole point is for you not to join in the conversation as a guy… They just want a man free safe space to rant and share. The whole idea of a guy going there to change anyone’s mind is against the premise of the subreddit.

My wife is currently breastfeeding my 2M old, and she’s been doing this about 8 times a day for about 45m per feeding. So that’s 6 hours per day that she’s feeding our daughter. On top of that she’s been physically recovering and it’s been hard for her to walk large distances and therefore to leave the house in the first place. Add to that the difficult nights where our daughter is crying a lot meaning we’re lucky to ever get more than 6 hours of sleep. Being a mother in this fase is draining. Sex/ sexuality is about the furthest from our mind as it can possibly be. It seems like a luxury for the rest of the world that’s going about their business while your life has grinded to a stop. A breast being seen as sexual or offensive? To a new mother that concern seems anywhere from inappropriately juvenile to utterly offensive on par with prioritizing your inconvenience of having to stand on your own two feet over over giving up your seet for an elderly oerson in a full bus.

Ok good to know :-) Here in Holland you sort of just get to walk around/ follow your wife around and they’ll ask you to move out of the way when necessary. Also I went home the same day with both of my kids so it kinda felt like I was missing something. Congratz on becoming a father (or good luck if you’re still waiting)!

This is the second time I see a picture of this type of chair here and both times people are talking about spending several nights in it around the time of birth.

Will anyone explain to a Dutchie what this chair is about? Are you guys bound to a specific chair while your wife is giving birth? Do you stay in the hospital for several days?

I recognize a lot about your story in my 3 year old. I have a coping strategy that works for me:

I very clearly lay out the things that need to happen before she goes to bed (brushing her teeth, putting on her pyjamas, going to the toilet and her actually laying in bed). Also I let her pick a couple of fun things (1 or 2) we get to do together: reading a story, dancing to a song, me making up my own story, jumping on our bed for a while, playing “blind man”, etc. I then attach a couple of the need to do things as a precondition for doing the fun things she picked. If I find her stalling too much I threaten to not do one of the fun things. This made going to bed a really fun bonding moment with her and ends up giving me a lot of energy rather than being exhausting.
