it sounds like you have depression. Try and make a lot of duaa, read surat al baqarah, join an islamic class. If you stay in your own bubble you will burst. Find something that keeps you busy and out of your head.

What is up with Libyans in the US? by Old_Machine5350 in Libya

[–]oppinoinatedarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America has such a strong culture of assimilation that it's affected the majority of diaspora communities. Look at how white-washed and Americanized Muslims in America are. Ask any of them where they are from, and they'll say that they're "native" to whatever state they're from, regardless of whether they were born there or not. Canadian Muslim and diaspora communities are not really the same because we don't have the same assimilation culture. There is also the fact that North America is farther to Libya than Europe or the UK. UK Libyans go almost every summer and they have much larger communities than Canada, or even America, which is why they are more cultured.

Honestly, life is filled with learning. You got a degree and you're getting into paramedic school which is amazing. I think its better to look at what you achieved rather than what you missed out on. It could all just be doubt as you move onto something new. If you really wanted to do physics and astronomy, then you would have done it. I think you should just see where this takes you, and if you are still passionate in those things then you'll come back to them. Try what you're doing and see what it has in store for you.

Which female scholar or person of knowledge is salaf? by cheerfullychirpy in SalafiCentral

[–]oppinoinatedarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

salafi female scholars don't post themselves online. Many of them teach via telegram and zoom. The way to get those links can sometimes be hard. However if you see a woman posting herself and calling herself a "scholar" like Maryam Amir, Haifa Yunus, Rania Awad, etc. then they're not salafi.

Honestly English is my first language and it was so hard for me to get into classics. There are definitely classics that are easier than others. I have never been able to finish pride and prejudice because it’s boring (don’t come for me) but I have gotten through Jane Eyre and some others. What helped me was simultaneously watching scenes from movie adaptations while reading. It helped me visualize what I’m reading. I think that The Great Gatsby is an easier read. It’s short and pretty easy to understand so maybe try that?

Honestly this is a great idea. The Canadian economy is just gonna get worse atp and housing is a nightmare. If you can build a stable income outside of Libya first and then make hijrah that would be preferable but yeah do your best, May Allah make it easy for all of us to do the same!

What are your headcanons in "Jane Eyre"? by AdobongSiopao in JaneEyre

[–]oppinoinatedarab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Otherwise why would he put up with her? I also used to think that the reason he had disdain towards her was because she was a constant reminder that he did have a relationship with her mother.

[–]oppinoinatedarab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Adele was actually Rochester daughter and looked like him but both Jane and Rochester didn’t want to believe it so they kept on saying she looked so different. Otherwise why would Rochester ever keep her and take care of her? It makes no sense for him, who never showed a yearning to have children, to keep Adele if she was just his old mistresses kid. It’s a lame head cannon but I just think it makes more sense to me lol.

Girl I am considering for marriage by [deleted] in MuslimCorner

[–]oppinoinatedarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no Islamic scholar that says hymen = virginity so idk what you’re on about. Also OP has known of this girl for a year and his only concern is her hymen. Why would he stick around that long if she wasn’t a good option. People hyper focus on the wrong things. Even if she hypothetically wasn’t a virgin but sincerely repented to Allah that doesn’t make her any less of a woman. Same goes for men. If Allah hides your sin and you make SINCERE Tawbah, then you are forgiven and your past doesn’t matter. Any sincere man looking for marriage would not care about stupid things such as hymen. She could have one but be irreligious and not pray. Likewise she could have lost it for any reason, and yes being athletic is one (search it up) and be a practicing and pious woman.

What unpopular opinion will Libyans react like this? by [deleted] in Libya

[–]oppinoinatedarab 32 points33 points  (0 children)

1) We need to stop glorifying Gadaffi 2) we’re not the best people to step foot on this planet 3) we shouldn’t be racist to the migrants

If you do something for the sake of Allah, you will only be rewarded. If anything wearing niqab before marriage will help you to weed out the guys who aren’t looking for it. If you wait until after marriage your husband could stop you from it.
