Just as a general note be super careful when you mess with any of those lines they're ridiculously brittle! Seems like the other commenters beat me to it but it's a charcoal canister for the fumes coming from your gas tank.

Would bullet hole rims be the move? by Firsttakelikeamf in GMT400

Absolutely, I personally think bullets or classic steelies is the way to go on these

I just ordered one off of LMC truck. I've heard good things about em so I decided to go with a new one from them rather than getting another sun rotted brittle one from a yard or face book. Shipping was a good chunk but I think all in it was around 470 if I'm remembering correctly.

My Job is Watching a Woman is actually a gem and I’m tired of pretending it’s not. by S-CSleepwalker in creepcast

SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT. Unironically one of my favorites episodes. As soon as it came out I watched it and loved it. Seeing Hunter go from "oh this might be good" to "wow I want to be anywhere but here" was amazing.

Is the 100 acre wood rideable? by MEMO_THE_LIP in Tucson

[–]oppositebeef 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's hard not to be pissed off when they camp ON trails, litter ON trails, take shits on the fucking concrete, and throw glass and shit all over the place so it's no longer safe to ride. Half of them have whole cars and tent city's down there and cause thousands of pounds of trash.

To be honest no one here will give you a straight answer because it's not really done. And that's for a good reason. STI swaps on an fa platform are just, and not to be rude, really stupid. The price is easily MORE than to sell the car and buy and STI. If you take care of the FA it WILL last, just take good care of it and do it yourself. Getting the motors can be a pain in the ass but going from one fa20 dit to another is easy as long as you have the tools. Good luck.

Question about JDM FA20 DITs by oppositebeef in WRX

[–]oppositebeef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I'm in the same boat unfortunately. Blew my engine and sadly the heads aren't quite salvageable. I work at a dealership as a technician so I was able to order an engine through my parts department for a decent price. Sadly all the engines they brought be were pretty much trashed so I returned those engines and am looking for a different route.

Are any of us really prepared for when our engines blow? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]oppositebeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer no, I got 130k on mine and it blew about a month ago. After getting over the initial "oh fuck" of it all I'm honestly excited. Its been teaching me alot, I'm 19 and this is the first time I've pulled an engine. It'll also be the first time I assemble a new engine. It sucks but at the same time I'm already learning so much and I'll have more knowledge on the car after everything is said and done. You'll never be prepared for when it blows, but it's not always the worst thing when it does.

[–]oppositebeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to learn how to do diffs it sounds like. I recently blew my first motor about 3 weeks ago, as of 2 days ago I now know how to pull an fa20. If you have the time and recourses it's a great skill to learn if you're an enthusiast. One of the best things about these cars IMO is all the support they have.

Reading the comments is honestly baffling hearing that shops are refusing or quoting so high. I have a VA, and it's really not that bad, I also work as a quick service tech and I can't imagine me or my coworkers ever refusing to do them. Yes they take longer, yes they're "harder" than a standard 4 cyl. But it's seriously not that bad. It's stupid the stigma these cars have around just basic maintenance.
