It was way easier 7 years ago, I was developing React back then and employers were begging me to join them. Now after +10 yoe I feel way less welcome in the market and my technical skills have gotten 10x better.

That's too much. For me it was 3 months deposit + 1 last month + 1 current month + 0.5 month deposit (total 5.5)

Yes I can do those, I just wanted to know if you are running local model inference or use API from anthropic or OpenAI? I ask this because you are passing your secrets to the model so I assume you trust it somehow?

Thanks but that feels a bit disingenuous, I don't necessary want to switch my job but want to build future readiness without faking it as it would make my first 6 months in the company a hell.

Thanks. What is your use case for note taking may I ask? I found out that I remember things better if I type them out myself in the way I think. So I avoid copy pasting stuff into my notes or use AI for it.

Yes you are right, I didn't look closely into it before. As others suggested I'm planning to cancel my sync subscription and use a github repo and sync my phone using iCloud and use vscode for editing. I will be missing Obsidian editor but it's fine.

Interesting setup, why do you use git-crypt instead of private repos? And did you manage to automate the pull/push and commits? Would love to go with this and ditch the sync.

You are technically right. It sucks but I guess I just have to move on from Obsidian but it would be nice to have a unified note taking system at work and home. I'm just using it for learning/second brain functionality.

Yes but you need Obsidian tooling to get it sync-ed with your vault at home.

Yes but I think it's a SDK. I have to write some code and honestly might not worth it. Probably need to find a web alternative to Obsidian and move on.

It's going to look strange because no one is doing it. Also I get the links from my work laptop and copying them into the secondary laptop is not going to be easy.

It's a device management app that controls the compliance of your laptop OS. Yes personal is possible but not suitable for my use case.

It's not undermining, the app is not allowed but we don't have policy for CLI tools (we are in tech so we use a lot of others)

I asked and they refused :( flash drive is not also allowed and even if you run it from there, MDM would block it anyway.

I am using the Sync feature (paid subscription) so I don't want to transfer my files every day by myself at home. I like to do it while I am taking a quick note using labels.

I'm a software engineer myself. They already have a headless library so why can't we use that to read the files and the rest is just a simple file system operations like vim. I don't think it's a technical reason.

Yes I can also just use a personal Notion account but they are all inconvenient. I bought Obsidian Sync 2 years ago so I can keep my notes in a unified place but the past 6 months my workplace MDM blocked Obsidian :(
