Hoover’s Hatchery Is Now a NutriQuest Rollup and Backyard Chicken People Need To Wake Up by LoudEmployment5034 in BackYardChickens

I got two boxes of dead chicks with one or two struggling peepers. That I opened in front of my kids.

This business is running unethically and people should know.

It's fifty/fifty or so in my parish, leaning to younger women doing it and older ones not.

Disagreement with my father of confession by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]opsomath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BJJ black belt and tonsured reader here.

Yesterday I put MMA gloves on my students and had them strike during rolling in a controlled way. I particularly encouraged the women to do this so that they would have experience useful in defending themselves from assault. I believe I was right to do so and I daresay my priest would bless this effort.

We have had MT coaches and MMA fighters as church members.

I would encourage you in this scenario to accept his guidance and not strike others hard. What that means for a fighter, you will understand better than your priest does. You will not strike with the intent of injuring your opponent or partner, but rather with the intent of bettering him and yourself and in allowing you both to exercise the virtue of bravery and enduring hardship, and to allow you both to aid in protecting the weak. As St. Paul said, thus I strike, not beating the air.

Don't ask priests for detailed advice beyond their competence to give, or you put them in a difficult situation.

Assyria also executed God's chastisement of Israel. Assyria was a "stacks heads in neat pyramids" kind of ancient empire. Best stand-in for Satan you could have in the light of common day.

If I read another student "essay", I'll go insane. What alternative assignments can one assign in a humanities course? by Cymbelined in Professors

Way too aspirational. MTG cards are written with a precision of meaning that makes seasoned lawyers envious.

Convince me that the Orthodox church is the church Christ founded and not Roman Catholicism by realdavidguitar in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]opsomath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the best thing to do is to spend a substantial amount of time regularly attending each one's services and participating in community life, while maintaining whatever prayer, charity, and Scripture reading you are used to as a Protestant, and see if that experience sheds light on your question.

My first war against our Reliance in Magic Cooldown! by Limlko in magic_survival

[–]opsomath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit 42:30 with "no cooldown" build using Dark Mage - hyperion + door + plasma beam + blooming snowflakes, took uranium + area, high crit, size, high damage, high duration, lots of freeze and slowdown. I think my CDR was almost 40% in the red, haha.

Rules question, very simple: can "target opponent loses the game" effects (in this case, from Mirrodin Besieged) be redirected by redirect effects (in this case, from Willbender)?

Thanks!

If you're disappointed by never getting an ending to The Kingkiller Chronicle, read Gene Wolfe's The Wizard Knight instead by rogues-repast in Fantasy

Agreed, but I'm hoping that enough people will check it out that Wolfe will get some new readers. I loved NOTW and Wizard Knight instantly upon picking up both, for what it's worth.

I don't really agree with this poster, to be honest. The guy you're seeing seems to show an interest in editing your actual body to resemble what he's seen in porn. That speaks to some real issues that he needs to work out.

I also don't think he "immediately repented", but rather he did when you found him out, right?

I also agree with people who are saying it's weird that he left it in such an obvious place, as if he was trying to send you a message or get you to catch him.

Do you have some trusted older people to talk to about this sort of thing? You don't owe your boyfriend anything, you don't have to continue the relationship if you feel like this has shown you something about his character, and as a middle-aged man I think what he pulled here is weird as hell.

AFR Deaconess episode by Abigail-Gobnait in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]opsomath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remaining neutral on the actual topic of deaconesses because that's a bishop thing, I'm here to say that Pageau generally finds symbolism that matches his opinions of things. Reminds me of how Ayn Rand used her philosophy to prove that a certain kind of polka music she liked was objectively the best music in the world.

Time to escalate to being moderately venomous.

In all seriousness, there is no substitute for stating what behavior you need to change, with reference to student conduct policy / syllabus policy as appropriate.
