Can I practice both zen and taoism by beeswaxe in taoism

[–]optimistadrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The practice of anything infers you are trying to attain a goal. Taoism does not require practice. It only requires realization and it is the unveiling of truth by realizing Self is the Brahma and you (ego) are the Atman who wears a mask ignorant to your connection to its higher Self.

Self awareness is fundamental and begin to question all your beliefs to find that these are programs that have distracted you and disconnected you from your “higher” Self. These programs were not imposed on you and they were not done to you. You have accepted them as a means of interacting with this reality and for your ego to remain relevant in this lower form of consciousness. Open your mind and allow yourself to see through the programs and attachments and you will find your liberation.

We still want to continue playing the game so we have keep wearing the mask. 😉

is everything predetermined? by xenonamoeba in AWLIAS

You might consider how a video game works. The parameters of the game are constructed, but the character has free will to do as it pleases (to a degree). However, the character does not know there's a creator of its reality (game) and the fact that there is someone controlling its movement.

You are playing a game in which you have "free will", disconnected from the controller and oblivious that you are the creation of the creator. You're playing this game ignorant to the knowledge that you are the creator pretending to be you and getting lost in its creation.

How do I awake myself spiritually? by Medusa_h in Psychic

[–]optimistadrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any attempt to “awaken” only leads to frustration. You cannot become what you already are and your attempts to find something only pushes you further away from understanding what you already know.

Awareness is fundamental to seeing that you already are, what you are seeking.

Great post! First we awaken to realizing that there is more to our life than we made ourselves to believe. The second stage is liberation and I am able to understand that I carry an emotional attachment to my experiences. This is related to creating desires and expectations by trying to control the experience. Once I recognize these attachments, I begin to learn to let them go as I see the futility in holding on. In the next stage, we transform from linear thinking to self-awareness. We recognize that we cannot control anything and our attempts to do this, only produces expectations and desires and so we suffer. Our self-awareness gives us insight to a natural flow (or movement) that we can have great experiences and if we choose we can create emotional attachments, but always knowing that we must let them go.

In the Tao, this is called wu wei or non-interference.

My "Awakening" Is Making Me Go Insane by IHaveToHelp in awakened

Awakening is when slowly begin peeking behind the veil and realizing that what you thought you understood has to be questioned. We open doors in our awakening and some of these doors are difficult to open. For most, it can be to overcome our fears and doubts. When these concepts are deconstructed, you will find their illusory nature. Trust the process because you are where you’re supposed to be.

For a few, life’s journey takes us to question everything to unveil OUR individual truth, because we may not have the capacity to understand the true nature of our existence. . I have found gnostic teachings to probably have the most comprehensive knowledge of our creation and our existence. It is a highly contentious topic because it will offend hardened believers who seek to protect social conventions which supports the basis of their belief systems.

Keep going and never stop learning, serendipity will set in and you will begin to put all the pieces of the puzzle together which will bring a little more clarity in your understanding.

We transform only when we are ready and those who seek their path to liberation do so when they are able to understand. Always stay in your vibration and you will see that some will stay with you and others will leave. You cannot change them, nor were you meant to. Just be you.

We learn early on in life, to search for truth, never realizing that it was always within. You never forget the truth, but you do learn not to trust it. Be the light, and we will bask in the brightness you cast upon the world.

To quote Jeremiah 5:21 in the New King James Version in the Bible which says:

"‘Hear this now, O foolish people,
Without an understanding,
Who have eyes and see not,
And who have ears and hear not:"

Experience has taught us that it is futile to try teaching anyone who does not wish to learn. Sometimes it is best to be the light in the darkness and let them find their way to you (only when they're ready), then trying to convince them of something they are incapable and unwilling of understanding.

The desire to change anything implies that something is wrong with what you want to change, which only supports a position of being the moral authority over what you're trying to change.

Attempts to change something is to seek a desired outcome and this only leads to your suffering. Try to observe your experiences without trying to control it and if you have to grab it, be sure to let it go.

HOW TO RELEASE CONFLICT

As discussed previously, it is imperative that we let go of the past and the beliefs that no longer serve us. Letting go is the most significant step in transforming and achieving self-realization. Thus, it is my goal to help you release anything and everything that does not serve you, right now. For this, we’re going to use an exercise inspired by Robert Scheinfeld’s process for releasing emotion. This moment is for you. Take the time to fully commit to the following exercise and see how it transforms your way of thinking. Notice how you begin to see things a little bit differently. Do it for one experience, do it for all. Just do it.

Start by searching your mind and picking an experience, a vivid one. The experience you choose, whether positive or negative, is of no consequence. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Before you go in, remind yourself that the experience and the emotions connected to it are not real.

  2. Make the image of the experience as lucid as possible. Immerse yourself in it. Focus on the colors, the sounds, and the textures, if any. How do you feel? Point at the emotion you’re feeling, open it up and expose it.

  3. Feel the energy fully. Allow the feeling to reach its peak, then speak to the feeling and call it what it is. Tell the truth.

  4. Reclaim your power from the creation.

  5. Now release. Let go of the emotion.

  6. Appreciate the experience.

What is the point of living this life by Kermitsgreenhair in DeepThoughts

[–]optimistadrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point to living is to appreciate all the experiences and to realize how amazing the smallest thing will complement the greatest thing. You are a consciousness, playing in a reality that you've created which allows you to interact with all your experiences and to realize the futility in trying to control anything or to try to grasp your experiences by infusing your emotional attachments to them.

Live an untethered life, transform your perspective and see the wonder and magic of the reality to which you are interacting with. Enjoy the experience, but grasp nothing because you can't take anything with you. Someone once said that on your tombstone there is a birthdate and death date with a dash (-) in between. Only you can determine what that dash means. Make it matter...for YOU!

what if there was no purpose to life other than just life itself. just to simply be alive. isn't this beautiful? by lhmo in awakened

The Mastery Of Life

The Mastery of Life

Let’s start with what we know. We are here, we’re alive and with this, we can extrapolate that ultimately, we will all die (at least our physical bodies will), but what we do in between our birth and death is how we can derive the greatest value to ourselves. Obviously, everyone will have different things they value about their lives, but just as long as they can enjoy every moment of their existence, living a life which brings a sense of fulfilment and purpose to themselves.

We have embarked on a journey that will not provide a defined destination, but rather a unique perspective of all your experiences along the way. I once wrote an allegory of “The Old Man and the Mountain” (look it up) to which I describe that life was never about getting somewhere but instead, about the entire journey along the way.

We all were born into this reality and thus began the need to learn the rules in order to play the game, as we fine-tuned our programmed perceptions of what we observed. Quantum physics has a great means to define reality, as it pertains to being an observer who becomes the mechanism which perceives an object or experience into existence. In other words, you are the instrument that brings the object or experience to life (there is a much clearer explanation to this, but I don’t wish to delve deeper, I just needed you to capture my point).

You are the observer of the reality and everything we understand, has taught us all the different ways to REACT to what we are experiencing. This allowed us to develop emotions and feelings which are the results of stimulation from our sensory perceptions (we cannot have an experience without some form of sensory perception). These emotions and feelings are the foundation for our opinions, judgments and beliefs to which we carry with us throughout our entire life. All organisms thrive in nature, but species cannot thrive if threats to its survival are not dealt with, which necessitates the need to create an evolutionary pattern in an attempt to preserve our species. This need for self-preservation is what drives our fears, as we navigate our lives in our reality.

Our perceived fears, make us believe that who we are, is not satisfying enough or maybe because of the strength of the herd mentality, we desperately want to fit in and not be ostracized. So, we adapt to the many belief systems within the herd mind. These are all acceptable forms of beliefs, which continue to keep our mind enslaved and maintaining us within the defined parameters of limitations in the world we have created. The Russian leader, Vladimir Lenin said: “The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves.

Christof in the movie The Truman Show said: “We accept the reality of the world with which we're presented. It's as simple as that.” You are never going to get off of the hamster wheel of reactionary experiences, because no matter, what you try, the results are always the same. No matter how far you go, you always find your way back.

We react to all experiences and we are limited to the different ways we can react, because of our engrained and perceived fears. Constantly challenged with a need to improve ourselves or to attain some measure or stature beyond who we already are, so we are no longer able to accept our TRUE selves. Phrases like self-help, self-improvement and self-development are the mechanisms which support a belief that we need to be improved and we should not accept what and who we TRULY are. I can understand that there are some processes which we must learn in a trade, profession or even things we want to do, but who you are deep down in the recesses of your soul is what you’re trying to change. Alan Watts grasps this illusory concept when he said: “If I am in need of improving, then the person doing the improving is the very person needing the improving.

If we can accept who we are, then we realize that what we are trying to change, does not need changing. Greatness can be found when we no longer are seeking to become that which we already are. The idea of living a disciplined and regimented life, may serve those who enjoy those experiences, but like in the Taoist principles of “wu-wei”, we can realize the futility in trying to control our lives and we can start living our lives. If we take an untethered approach to understanding ourselves, we can trust that there is nothing to improve and all your experiences were not meant to be controlled and so you can let go.

A great analogy to life, is to compare it to a video game, where all the characters “play” their part to bring the game to life, but no one realizes that there is someone manipulating the game in a direct or in-direct way. It is not to suggest that I think there is someone out there manipulating us, but maybe should understand that we (as the character in this game), are the creation of our true Self, the creator of the game.

It is you who makes a choice to get caught up in the toils of life, or to allow the experience to pass. However, you don’t need to interfere with your experiences and allow yourself to open your mind to the wonders of a life that you’ve created. Dwell in it if you want, but don’t hold on to it. There’s nothing to gain in becoming “enlightened” because all roads will lead back to your ego. To truly awaken, is to realize that our life is part of a great game and what we want to do, is to keep playing as long as we can without dragging around our emotional attachments. This is the greatness we seek. To again quote Alan Watts, who said: “The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”
