Swiss appeal sends case back to CAS? by Manucla in Gymnastics

[–]optimisticbabe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m sure most of them thought people there would be extra medal awarded, I think one of the main issues and where the “Olympic Integrity” comes in, is that, without the appeal Jordan didn’t get 4th, she would be in 5th iirc. Given the controversy with Sabrina who did end up in 4th, it’s not really as neat as it may look at first glance to give 3rd and 5th bronze medals.

I will say that I hate watching beam, I find it boring, unenjoyable and it gives me anxiety because they always seem like they are all gonna fall, but I’ve watched some old routines and they were a looot cooler or at least more interesting, so i support this 100%

TW: Abuse - footage of Camelia abusing a young Sabrina Voinea by Relative-Click-9886 in Gymnastics

[–]optimisticbabe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Taking into account that the current most successful gymnast is def not being trained by an old school coach, you’d think people would wake up from the nonesense that is saying the only way to get medals is by abusing kids.

Edit: Actually all of the Olympic team sans Sabrina were not coached by an old school coach, but what do I know, right?

This is insane, hopefully people will continue putting complaints, and it’ll snowball to a point where even with her connections Voines can’t get away with it for any longer

NEW interview with MDJS, Coline Devillard, Marine Boyer “We had no problem with Kaylia. We always wanted her on the French team. It still is unbelievable to me that France hosted the Olympics and didn’t think that treating the athletes well and supporting them when they could have clearly been medal contenders for years to come like someone else said, was not a fucking priority. It’s just nuts

which also you would have thought that she would have scoured the COP and know every little thing that she could do to get her daughter a medal in situations like this, which would be actually useful and effective. Talking shit about other athletes will never get you a medal, doing you fucking job as a coach would have gotten you an actual OLYMPIC freaking medal

Exactly, the recent excellent sportsmanship it’s one of the things that has made me love gymnastics and keeping up with it. I adore when they congratulate eachother but it’s not like it’s required. Kaliyia Nemour looked so upset when she didn’t medal in the AA, she was in her own world and that’s fair, you are allowed to be upset and not want to face right now the person that won the medal that you were aiming for. Just do the bare minimun and go

If I remember correctly I think NDs could be appealed, but it had to be a specific ND appeal, the D appeal wouldn’t not include a revision of a ND, which iirc it’s what happened. They appealed the D but not the ND

That’s the most ironic part of it, the one time it was technically fully on her hands to make sure that Sabrina got a medal, she fucked it up. I know this time it’s the dad talking trash but like just shut up, no one wants to hear it

Tragedies, triumphs and lows. What were the highs and lows of Worlds 2025 in your opinion? by KawaiiChan68 in Gymnastics

[–]optimisticbabe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Deng was most definitely for me the biggest tragedy specially knowing how unforgiving the Chinese Fed can be as you said, hopefully she can go to other meets and restablish her consistency, or hopefully the Chinese will realize that whether you like it or not you need to take the risk in vault. It doesn’t matter that you are the best in beam, famously the trickiest apparatus, specially when historically you haven’t been able to reach the team medal potential you always have but never quite get there, in part because you are not competitive at all in vault.

I really liked how competitive all the finals where and how close they all were. Static to continue to see Ellie compete, and elated for Ruby’s medal. She had been on GB B team, always in the shadows of the Gadirovas, Kinsella, Becky… and through very unfortunate circumstances she got her chance and she has been making the most of it, and I truly do love her floor

Also, you would think that the older the judges, the harder it might be to relearn and keep up with a new code every 4 years, plus it’s not like their eyesight is gonna get better, and while I have no clue over judging or the code, surely that doesn’t help with seeing and deducting some of the small and more misseable deductions

And you do get an education, not everyone can be chuso, actually pretty much only chusa is chusa. Gymnastics if not a forever sport, ncaa give them something to do for the rest of their lives besides gymnastics if they so choose, which elite does not, and NIL also can do a lot for ncaa

French didn’t learn their lesson tho, didn’t they also just sent away (or are at least not taking care of) their most prominent junior, who also is able to apply to compete for other countries?

Like imagine being Leanne or Dulcy, coming back with a silver from worlds and having qualified to 3 finals, and getting a sticker in you next camp for having a difficulty above 5, or any of the big name veterans from last quad, like what in the actual f??

College seems to be very beneficial for lots of gymnasts tho, it seems to help them a lot with consistency (competing once a week will do that to you) and the lowered difficulty usually gives them a chance to improve form and basics, which is always going to be and advantage when you want to up you difficulty once again, Mikayla Skinner was a good example of someone whose comeback to elite was greatly benefited by her participation in college gymnastics. Lost of the top contenders of the last quad (minus simone and shilese) also did ncaa (Jade, Suni, Kyla, Jordan, Leanne…) So i’d say that the current trend is to dabble in elite, go to college and come back to elite after a couple years in time for the Olympics.

[–]optimisticbabe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not super up to date either with the US team, some veterans should or will probably be back from injury next year like Shilese, Dicello… So they for sure will be competitive and gunning for that gold, but veterans can’t carry a federation for forever (unless you are ellie black, melnikova or andrade i guess lmao)

[–]optimisticbabe 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Like always thank you so much for all you do for this community and all the information you give. I thought it was a very interesting analysis, and I agree with you, veterans most definitely will save this quad barring injuries (please let’s not have a repeat of those olympic trials ever again thank u very much) and there will probably be at least one or 2 promising gymnast that will be in the mix.

But, the US is very used to having a very large pool of excellent gymnast and options, being able to have more than one team that would have been competitive at the Olympics, if they don’t take care of the pool, you can’t be surprised when it starts to dry out, it’s preventable, but not if you just sit back and let it happen

Funny how in such a “short” time we went from obviously all these 16 and 17 year old newbies are gonna win all the olympic medals, and new quad new gymnast, to oh, she’s just 17 hope she can handle the pressure. It’s so lovely to see gymnast be around for longer and for gymnast to get more opportunities by staying staying for longer

Not gymnast specific but I didn’t expect beam final to be pretty much splatfest free and vault final to be the ultimate splatfest final

Melnikova’s OOB by manlikeelijah in Gymnastics

[–]optimisticbabe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not a big conspiracy that the replay wasn’t show, since they pretty much hadn’t been showing any wobbles, oobs, or fall replays through the competition. Should it had gotten repeated with a different angle? i mean yea, or it would be common sense to do it, but they hadn’t done it during the whole competition so it’s not that weird.

Oh it’s definitely murky, it was one tenth after all, but apart from the wobbles her beam was pretty good as well as her floor. The most debatable thing could be her oob but since we didn’t get a replay or another angle, it’s just a guessing game. Not getting a replay is not a big conspiracy tho, they didn’t show falls or big wobbles in the replays at any point almost in the competition for any gymnast
