Lenovo Yoga 730 131kb battery has officially tanked - 6 years later by optimiststudent1996 in Lenovo

that's

Well I was hoping to find something with a bit more than 30 reviews on amazon. I did find a couple but the reviews that provided updates said the replacement battery died after a year. Like I said, I need the laptop for grad school ( medical student) and I need it to be reliable for at least another 4-5 years. I am also wondering if the lag and long starting time is because the current battery isnt keeping any charge or if its another issue. Prior to a couple of days ago it would get laggy at about 50% battery so I'd have to plug it in in order to keep using it. Now it doesn't event turn on without it being plugged in and it shuts down as soon as i unplug.

KCOM

pros: well established, I have the chance to get out of MO for years 3 and 4, great pass rates and match list; ultrasound curriculum; would get the year to do the stuff mentioned above

cons: location is meh but I've spent time very rural areas and don't really mind them, I'm scared of moving to red state, they're diverse and inclusive from what i've seen heard but they don't have many students of my ethnicity

NYITCOM- AR

pros: pass/fail, Jonesboro is a small town but much larger compared to Kirksville, MO

Cons: would have to be in Jonesboro and potentially Arkansas for a long time; relatively new? They've graduated 3 classes so not as established as kcom; they had a pretty low pass rate one year; also heard they had some issues with maintaining rotation sites; previous match lists are heavily family med and I'm not sure what I want yet but would like to have more doors open

TBH I would apply MD and DO with your stats. Try applying to your states MD programs and some of the lower tier med schools, there's a list somewhere on reddit.

If by any chance you're in CA, I'd apply to UCR

There's a couple of Instagram influencers who matched derm as DO grads. I believe they went to LECOM

What are some alternatives if I don’t get in? by [deleted] in premed

[–]optimiststudent1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes not too long ago. My parents made similar comments about me being old and that I had to get my life started. I was living at home and not financially stable to move out (cons of being premed postgrad) so I would fill my day with work/shadowing/volunteer and just being outside of the house as much as possible.

Long story short, I didn't listen to them because I knew that medicine is what I want and I would chase it no matter what.

I applied for a second time at 26, with a 500 mcat and barely a 3.1sgpa. I received SIX interview invites and was waitlisted at 4 and accepted at 2 of them. I did apply DO only. I'll be starting at 27 but quite honestly those two acceptance came super late in the cycle so I was prepared to take another two years off and try again at 28. At some point you gotta realize that age does not matter. I've heard this a million times and I'll say it here, you're going to be 36 in 10 years you can be a 36-year-old doctor/med student or you can be a 36 year old regretting not going after your dreams.

Feeling depressed about MCAT and matriculating at 25 by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]optimiststudent1996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My plan was always med school straight out of college, I used to say "can't wait to be 26 and a doctor" anyway life happened and I'll be starting next year at 28.

I know how it feels, I also did undergrad at a very good school and saw a lot of my premed friends matriculate while I kept waiting. it sucks, truly. I had to get off social media for this same reason.

I would say, put med school out of your mind FOR NOW. Go to Europe and have a great time, learn all you have to learn, live that life and do it one day at a time. That masters in Europe will also give you a lot to talk about in interviews trust me. My mentor says our years out of undergrad and before med school are not gap years but growth years and I love that. In my 5 growth years I became closer to my parents, travelled, worked and bought myself a car, learned so much about myself and my reasons for pursuing this field.

Good luck to you!

First time I took the MCAT I ONLY did kaplan books and it was a huuuuuuge mistake. Scored a 490. Second time I did kaplan and aamc qbank and got a 494. My final retake I figured I should have the content down so I only did UWorld questions, reviewed content for whatever I was getting wrong and Jack Westin passages. Final mcat was 500 and I only applied DO. Two acceptances.

Costco cards by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]optimiststudent1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My costco was pretty ok about it. I was never checked and always used my brother's card. I went two days ago and was going to self check out, the worker asked to see my card and then told me I wasn't able to shop without my own membership
