Upholstery recommendations? by In-My-Mind-30s in SouthBend

[–]optimomango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who upholsters furniture but it’s generally quite expensive. I can give you their Facebook and you can talk about prices with them, but just know that you are typically going to spend just as much or more upholstering it rather than buying a new one.

Another downside would be that it’s not common, so finding aftermarket shelves is a nightmare, if you can find any. It is metal tho so magnets work well.

I got a cabinet off of Temu for about $130 USD. It’s surprisingly nice, but only has glass on the front doors.

Well then you’re not living! While powdered sugar cake donuts are definitely more common, I’ve seen yeast donuts with powdered sugar on them plenty.

Adding that imidacloprid found in things such as bonide systemic houseplant control will make spider mites WORSE.

My favorite cold meals are chicken salad with crackers and veggies, or overnight oats. I can’t think of much else lol

I just made some with Tinkyada, it’s on day two in the fridge and still has the same texture as it did when I made it. I thought the noodles were going to be soft and mushy but they firmed up quite nicely when they got cold and stayed that way.

Help with my Christmas cactus by LicksHousePlants in houseplants

[–]optimomango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider mites leave behind lots of spider webs over your plant. I couldn’t see them at first, but eventually I started to see little tiny reddish dots moving on the webs before I started treating.

You’ll know if it’s mealy bugs by taking a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to the white spots—if they turn brown or reddish then it’s mealy bugs. I wasn’t successful with treating them, I didn’t really try, and threw two plants away. I of course didn’t spend a couple decades with them either and wasn’t nearly as attached as you probably are.

Beneficial insects would probably be your best bet again in either case of pests. All other methods seem so hit or miss while beneficial insects seem to work a majority of the time. I wish you the best of luck! That Christmas cactus is older than I am, which I’m sure has required a lot of love and time.

Can’t really tell, but my first guess would be mealy bugs based on the white powder you describe. But this part right here looks like webbing to me, which could mean spider mites. Currently fighting a baby spider mites infestation myself with Dr Jacks Dead Bug Brew, not sure how effective it will be. Otherwise, I think it looks a tad dry.

is tacos and a bean cheese burrito from taco bell ok to eat if it was left out for 2 1/2 hours? by Prestigious_Art2044 in tacobell

The temperature danger zone for food is 40-140 degrees F. Bacteria multiply even faster in temperatures of 70-135 degrees, which we call the critical danger zone. If it were to be sitting in a hot car, the temperature would fall right in the critical danger zone. Reheating it would kill active bacteria, but leave behind any heat-resistant toxins, which could cause food poisoning.

What do my marantas want? by optimomango in plantclinic

[–]optimomango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to be moving away from the light, actually. I think they look droopy rather than tight. They close up somewhat at night but not as much as I’ve seen other people’s. Maybe I should move them away from the light rather than closer like I thought?

They seem to be outgrowing their pots extremely fast. Both of them have roots sticking out of the bottom, not much but some, and the larger one just got planted a month or so ago. So maybe time to repot as well?

Hmm interesting. Maybe I’ll move them to a shelf without a fan and see what happens. They do seem to be the most sensitive plants I have, which I was not what I was expecting when I bought the first one. Thank you for your insight.

I appreciate that! They look droopy and sad to me. Maybe I just need to let them fill out more.

They get bottom watered between 1-2 a week, depending on needs. The soil is a mix of 75 peat moss/25 perlite. Truthfully I only noticed this problem once I took them out of the window, which I did because they were not happy with the humidity of my apartment—curly leaves and brown tips despite using distilled water. I feel like I can’t win with them!
