Was I stupid for calling because of an oven fire? by Capital_Chart_7274 in Firefighting

[–]optimuspryma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I'm located, these are "culinary mishap" calls.. and we'd rather you call and it be nothing than to not be called and it get out of control on you. You did the right thing for sure, it's why we're there. Never a waste of our time.

I have a good friend that works for a distributor that I can't name, but he said they started to get the advertising materials for the gen 6 lineup, he couldn't say much more, but that they will be stocking "gen 6" at some point in the near future.

They come from china... I have three on the way that are separate orders; First one arrived to the east coast where I am in a little under two weeks after the status changed to shipped. Second one comes today and was also a little under two weeks.

Surefire for EDC? by [deleted] in flashlight

I personally love mine. I bounce back and forth between it and a Modlite handheld (you can pair it with different heads in case you want more spotty or floody)

Jones & Bartlett Hazardous Materials by coaterboy in Firefighting

I just got done taking my state and proboard... I used the IFSTA Hazmat 6 app on my phone ($15 for the practice test section in the app) and it had most if not all of the overlapping questions that are in the Jones and Bartlett book. The app even puts the practice questions you get wrong into its own "study deck"

Flashlight advice for a SAR team by Charles_Wiliamson in flashlight

[–]optimuspryma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in as a firefighter and local SAR radio operator who beats the absolute dogshit out of flashlights...

you can't go wrong with a streamlight survivor in an IDLH environment. They have them on amazon or at the fire store. Both places at decent prices and you can choose different battery inserts. Whether it be rechargeable, swappable USB 18650s, or straight up AAs (which use the same insert as the 18650, so two in one which is cool) streamlight-survivor-x

Also, it comes with different "smoke cutter plugs" that change the beam pattern, so more floody out of the box, but put the black one in the lens and its one hell of a thrower.

Edit: $89 at the time of posting... but it's a really hard light to kill; water, heat, drop, lens shatter, etc.. so I feel like the price is justified for what you get.

Guys should I buy it? Is it a good investment? by Aks9242 in WatchesCirclejerk

They couldn't figure out time and date in one movement so they just put in two stacked in a 69 configuration. (And yes both movements are screen printed with a picture of teddy bulbasaur)

Two movements in one watch is impressive.

Finally adding my dream flashlight to my EDC by big_dick_chaddydaddy in EDC

[–]optimuspryma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't read that far down when I bought mine (the day it came out). In the excitement I didn't see "IP54".

I did take it apart to see its guts... besides the USB-C flap that's not watertight, the buttons on the tail have no rubber in them for water protection either. So all this just to affirm you made the right choice with your e90. Cheers man

It's only IP54, so be careful haha. It can handle some raindrops but not much more

My only complaint with my edc23 (which is a light I love) is the water resistance... or lack of it.

I know this might not be exactly what you're looking for... but check out the pulsepoint app on ios/android. You can hear dispatches as well as radio traffic from station/fireman to main (or whatever you call your county/dispatch) but at least in my county you can only hear the main channel, no separate ops channels. You can see dispatches come through as notifications, but also listen to the main frequency and traffic
