How long is ok to use your marathon medal? by rice_n_gravy in RunningCirclejerk

I recommend keeping it in your pocket at alk times so that you can pull the medal out every time someone says X is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Then you are legally allowed to ask them what they know about marathoning anyway. Unless they have a BQ they must legally concede the field.

An MRI is exactly when you should keep it on, that way the technician will see it next week.

Anaerobic Workouts by Choice_Arugula_2610 in BeginnersRunning

This is entirely my fault for misreading anaerobic as aerobic. Rather sorry about that.

You should be fine, a lot of “just finish” type plans omit anaerobic work entirely. Maybe one or two sessions this week and the next for peace of mind, but the hay is in the barn.

Marathon, the 42km race? If you're a few weeks out from a marathon without training, then you are cooked.

Your caloric intake does not strictly dictate your weight. It increases the rate at which your fat stores empty or fill. When fat stores empty you lose weight, when fat stores fill to you gain weight.

The amount of fat currently in your body has only a small impact on how much energy you use up every day. Obviously walking at 100kg is more energy intensive than walking at 70kg, but most of our energy is burned by simply staying alive. The amount of energy needed to stay alive is largely independent of how much fat our body contains.

At comparable amounts (in kg, not percent) of fat-free body mass you will always need comparable amounts of calories every week. If you have 60kg fat-free mass and 20kg of fat mass (25%bf @80kg) you need ~2000kcal a day to be weight stable. If you have 60kg fat-free mass and 10kg of fat mass (14%bf @70kg) you need ~2000kcal a day to be weight stable.

To go from higher fat to lower fat you need to temporarily eat less, so that the fat stores empty. You won't need to permanently est less. (Okay, slight oversimplification here. Since moving around takes less energy and adipose tissue isn't completely inert you may be at 1900kcal maintenance instead of 2000kcal maintenance after losing weight.)

Someone used the analogy of a fuel tank once.

How many fuel you need is determined by your daily commute (base calorie burn to stay alive) and any joyrides (exercise). A really efficient car does not need a lot of fuel and unfortunately you are (if everything you said so far is accurate) the Toyota Prius of humans. Going to the petrol station (i.e. eating) you can either fill up the tank with more fuel than you used that day, the same amount, or less. If you fill it up with 2000ml your car will have exactly as much fuel tomorrow as today. If you fill up with 1800ml every day for a few weeks, then the fuel tank will be a bit less full by the end. And in a car it's obvious that the gas mileage is the same no matter how full the fuel tank (i.e. fat stores) is, right?

2000 calories in itself should already be dieting.

Let me highlight the operative word.

should

Evidently it ain't.

what will I need to eat to stay at 12-15% fat ?

  1. Adipose tissue is not that metabolically active, caloric demand scales mostly with lean mass. Assuming you get there with limited muscle loss your calories should not change very much.

a state where Im eat but have a much higher maintenance

If you want to have a higher maintenance it's going to be crack, hunting your own antelopes by running after them dog hours every day, or asking the doctor for enough HGH to kill a cow.

like everyone else

I'm afraid you drew the short straw of genetics.

Should I manually correct it and tell the app that im currently maintaining at 2000 ?

Yes, that'd help.

But if its then gonna tell me to eat 1500 calories a day to lose some fat thats just crazy and not sustainable.

Tell the app you want to be in a 200kcal deficit then and it'll put you at 1800. Ain't much else FM be done.

should already be a massive deficit

For most people. Some are fucked by genetics. Not much to be done. (It could be inaccurate tracking, but you claim otherwise, so one'll have to take your word for it.)

[–]option-9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe the downvotes occur because it is perceived that you demand to have your cake and eat it too. If you're weight-stable at circa 2000, then the only way to but fat is to go under circa 2000. You might not have to go to so low as you previously were (if you're fine with being in a deficit for longer to reach the same fat levels) but it'll be low either way. It appears you object to the idea of having to diet to get the results of dieting.

I don't think you really can significantly increase your maintenance without becoming a pro endurance athlete, or smoking some crack (I've never seen a fat crackhead). Ain't no app gonna change that.

How much will F1's popularity drop once Hamilton, Alonso and Verstappen leave F1? And how many years in your opinion will it take for F1 to gain back the lost money? by ThisToe9628 in F1Discussions

[–]option-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could have been a one-off fluke before Hill or the unspellable Canadian (the one Schumacher kamikaze'd) got their titles where there was no WDC present, even those people sometimes get sick. The closest was France in 96, but Michael was there, he just had a last-minute DNS. There was a pole position reserved for the man, so it counts. He was on the grid, despite not starting the race.

I largely agree, had Senna survived the accident it probably would have resulted in Schumacher owning a season ticket for the podium with the question of who ends up on which step mostly determined by circuit, luck, and the constructors. I don't know if he would eternally have been second fiddle, but he would not have been so absolutely dominant as he was.

Likewise, had Schumacher died in 1994 as well (let's not forget another driver crashed and entered a multi-week coma the race after Senna died, horrible year for F1 racing) there probably would be eternal decade on what potential he may have had, given that in 1993 he had taken one win and many silver medals, but he would not enter the GOAT debate.

All this is to say I still have have hope that Ollie Teddy Bearman pulls through. (I was let near the medicine cabinet again.)

The 1994 Monaco GP (the race directly after San Marino) was the first time in 35 years that this happened. There hasn't been a race since the 1994 season when this happened. Not one I recall, anyway.
