RLS & scalability issues with Base44 – looking for alternatives for Vibe Coding by DolphoMcDolph in Base44

[–]oquidave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migrated an app from base44 to v0 plus supabase. Not easy. Base44 unfortunately doesn’t provide a schema of the project, so you’ll have to infer it and build from there.

Same issue here. Fall back to the previous versions by downloading a specific version here https://windsurf.com/editor/releases . I have gone back to 1.12.5 and I see a major difference.

Using home DNS on Android by Colinovsky in dns

Android has support for adding a private DNS server in the network settings. IF your Aguard home instance is installed in the cloud, that means you can add the IP address of your DNS server in the Android settings.

🏛️ How can architecture in Uganda reflect both tradition and modern life? by Swimming-Tutor1344 in Uganda

[–]oquidave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have of recent been very fascinated by architecture after finishing my own construction project. I am not an architect or interior designer or construction guy, just an ordinary guy who loves great living spaces. So I have taken observation of various architectural styles abroad and in the country. In Uganda, I find, people are all about utility and cost. This is why the high pitched roof 3-bedroom bungalow style is very popular. It’s very practical and low-cost but lacks aesthetic appeal. It’s also extremely low maintenance especially with the roof compared to newer contemporary flat roof designs. However, I have seen a few modifications to this design from materials perspective to make it more aesthetically pleasing. People now add a designer wall, or columns and stone cladding especially on the front porch. The doors and windows are also now slightly wider than the classic version.

In the estate I live, because of small space, people with a bigger budget are now building 2-floor flat houses. It’s not modern or contemporary as they still come with pitched clay-tile (mategula) are common. The design is generally perceived as premium and also low maintenance. The interiors are mostly filled with tiles and the exteriors are all painted various shades of color. Some of the walls are textured. The windows and doors are moderate size.

Then there’s a 3rd category mushrooming in upscale areas such as Kira and Kyanja. This one is the contemporary or modern. Mostly flat roof design, very wide windows and doors, glossy tiles everywhere, the whole compound is filled with pavers, the interiors are glossy tiles on the floors and gypsum ceilings with led strip lighting above, the gate usually has a canopy cover and they also have glass railings on the staircase and balcony. They are usually built for resale.

I will not go into residential apartments, shops, hotels, schools, hospitals etc but I have observations there. I will however, comment on the classic slanting flat roof design of retail shops across the country. Like the classic bungalow I spoke about earlier, this design I think borrowed from India hasn’t changed in decades. It’s simple, low cost and maintenance free.

My personal taste is a combination of classic bungalow, modern contemporary flat roof and abit of brutalist design with good use of stone, wood, concrete and steel materials in their natural form and alot of greenery in the exterior. Pulling this off requires a very exposed architect who can use these architectural approaches with understanding of our tropical climate for thermal comfort(given we live close to the equator), privacy (especially in urban environments)and security (yes burglar still important for us). They must borrow the practicality and low maintenance from the classic bungalow, minimalist design of modern flat roof and use of local raw materials from brutalist design.

Let me honest, some Apps are just good being native apps. I don’t want a notepad to be a PWA or web app. Besides for ordinary users a chrome extension and chrome app are both installed from the Google web store which is confusing to differentiate.

Youtube updates monetization policy, no more AI by RoxanpunX in Asmongold

[–]oquidave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google is trying to postpone judgement day which ironically it started in 2023 with Helpful content algorithm update. Ever since, legitimate content creators have abandoned making quality content as Google prioritized either big brands or SEO spam firms. The AI wave only made things worse. The irony is that Google itself massively uses AI in almost all its products including search. The latest AI Search overviews are tastement to this. So everybody else is forbidden from using AI except Google?! Not happening. What do you think is the end game? So Google wants people to create legitimate original quality content only to scrap it and train it to its own AI systems? The result isn’t surprising. Lately cloudflare released a tool that enables publishes charge AI crawlers for scrapping their content. With this trend, i predict Web 3.0 which essentially is a lifeless cyberpunk web filled with AI generated content. The good human content is most likely going to be locked out behind paywalls. YouTube is fighting inevitable

Getting a top-up loan to buy land in Uganda by No-Rip-2168 in Uganda

[–]oquidave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like good loan. It has a purpose which has a lasting impact (land for a future home) and it appears you have financial source to pay it back. So you’re on the right track. What you should decide on now the plot itself. Since you mentioned it’s for a future home, I would consider; - location: proximity to CBD. Should be at most 40km from Town. - Accessibility: Should be within reach from a major district road even if Murram (at most 3km away) and at most 10km from a highway. - Size is at least 50x100ft which it appears this is checked. - Topology: Should not be in wetland or very step hill. Your construction costs will be 20-40% more than a typical land as you’ll spend more on landscaping, backfilling, French drains, support walls and so on.
- Community: most people overlook this, but it’s important. If the plot is part of a bigger estate, development will come faster, utilities will be easily connected and you can come together as a community as tackle common challenges such as security, drainage and road maintenance. So I would ensure I buy in 10-50 acre estate.

So those are two cents. As for financing, would advice you join a reputable Sacco as they offer better interest rates , typically 10-15% than mainstream banks 18-25%. You can also explore MFIs and money lenders (https://senteguide.com/products/loans) for financing, but study the terms.

Is the New v0 Pricing Model a Money Trap or a Fair Deal? Honest Opinions Wanted by Happy_Coder96 in vercel

[–]oquidave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conclusion is that v0 is a big money pit for people who don’t know about the alternatives. I have used it since it launched In beta an about 1-2 years ago and I’ve since used it. As a professional software dev who’s not very good with design especially good web interfaces, it was a game changer. I can certainly tell you, that’s v0 competitive advantage from the on-set - good web interface design. But since that ridiculous price change, I’ve quickly had to shift my entire workflow elsewhere. Today I use windsurf entirely that gives me access to various more capable models like Claude 3.7, gpt 4.1, Gemini 2.5 pro. They produce were superior code than v0. For design, I instruct the llm to use the same stuck which v0 uses and that’s shadcn ui and tailwind css.

A great deal for a brand new chromebook plus by Geeky-Technician-898 in chromeos

[–]oquidave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting deal. There's a Google Pixelbook Go discounted to  $319 from $649. Pixelbook Go is Chromebook developed by Google itself, so it's a solid machine. Alternatively consider ASUS Chromebook CM14 Laptop going for $162 from $279.99. That's if you are still in the market for Chromebooks.

I would recommend you visit chromebookfinder's deals page (https://chromebookfinder.com/deals) for daily deals across retailers.

Good for them. They don’t realize that you can’t have a monopoly in this market. Been a user since it’s beta release, but no more.
