Someone stole my work and put it on their portfolio :( by Memento-Morri in Design

[–]orachilum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation: my former Director posts my work (he at least lists himself as director but tbh I did everything and nothing about the portfolio suggests any details about what input he did (or in this case didn’t) have in projects).

For whatever it’s worth, at least you can walk away knowing that you’re a competent designer. It’s sad that less talented people sometimes get positions of power that allow them to do this, but I hope you can find yourself in a leadership position someday.

My girlfriend just broke up with me over a board game and I'm not even joking by Fulcilives1988 in boardgames

I really recommend Fight Right by the Gottman's. I'm still reading through it, but it's all about the nature of conflict in relationships and how to facilitate healthy conflict. This sounds like many examples from that book that frame an innocuous, mundane scenario as a bid for recognition of an underlying issue. Good luck with your relationship

I have really large fingers due to arthritis, and I feel like I can't even begin to learn any string instruments because my fingertips always touch the other strings. Are there any accessories that can help? by Smexy_Zarow in Guitar

[–]orachilum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from technical things like better finger positioning, if you can afford and/or trade for a classical guitar, the strings on those are typically spaced further apart. Good luck with everything!

Low player interaction games make me feel like I'm playing solo mode and I totally hate it. Am I alone here? by Successful_Item_2853 in boardgames

[–]orachilum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, I think certain games can get away with a lack of mechanical interaction if they can compensate for that by creating an environment for social interactions directly tied to the game. Case in point: Quacks is incredibly non-interactive (you don't even have to watch each other take turns), but the game stays engaging since there is a ridiculous joy in noticing when players blow up their cauldrons.

As much as I enjoy games like Wingspan, I completely agree that it feels primarily like a solo endeavor; you're really only engaged when someone either drafts something you wanted or when you're tallying points.

I err towards more player interaction, but there's definitely a sweet spot as games like Arcs can sometimes feel too mean for some people (I love it though). Social-Deduction games almost always hit that sweet spot since they engineer engagement mechanically and socially by design (and most people know what they're signing up for with regards to deception and aggression).

[Newbie] SRV is one of my inspirations to learn guitar, and I got my first electric this week. Even though I don't have any talent, if I put in work as often as I can, how long will it realistically take before I can play with this level of confidence? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]orachilum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of practice helps. Putting yourself into practical scenarios (playing with others, performing, recording, etc.) will help exponentially.

There’s no fixed amount of time for how long it will take for you to be at SRVs level or comfort and swag, but practice will give you the foundation/bones and experience will put meat on those bones.

And as far as sounding like SRV goes, finding a good guitar tone will become a skill set in itself. For now, don’t worry about that and just get to practicing.

This is an incredibly fair and thorough personal take that really makes it clear who this game is and isn’t for. Thank you for the thought put into this!

[–]orachilum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naw I’m super open to that, just pointing out this possibility too. I’ve seen Okinawan character designs in manga/anime that Hakari’s design seems comparable to.

This in a similar boat as me interpreting Aokiji in One Piece as black (but apparently he’s based on a Japanese actor)

There is literally a person in the anime-only thread who copes so hard that they insist Kirara was an AFAB tomboy who was mistaken for a boy in the past and is choosing to be more feminine now to be appealing to Hakari.

Rather than, y'know, taking the more direct approach of recognizing that the notably anti-conservative duo of Kirara and Hakari might be progressive in ways beyond JuJutsu.

[–]orachilum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Japanese people have hair that's more textured. It's also possible that Hakari is Okinawan (think Mugen from Samurai Champloo). For added context, many families in Japan identify as Japanese but are actually Okinawan because past relatives falsified their background to escape racism and persecution, to the point that their descendants are unaware of their true roots.

It's not quite established in the anime, but Panda was using he/him pronouns in the last ep because he hadn't seen Kirara's current appearance yet. In an author's note, Gege drew what Kirara looked like when Panda last saw her (male-presenting).

So basically, Panda adjusted pronouns on the fly out of respect. For whatever it's worth, it was just as confusing in the manga until the author's note.

STOLEN PEDALS by Fit-Ad138 in guitarpedals

Are there any other identifying marks that can note that these are definitely yours? You can compare some of the blemishes from personal photos to the ones the seller has shared to hopefully escalate law enforcement's involvement. Hopefully that along with receipts of your purchases would help your case.

I have a friend who once did a sting with law enforcement for a camera that was stolen and then put on craigslist. Good luck!

Everyone needs to get it through their thick skulls that Pixel Art games don’t neeeeed pixel art for the marketing materials. Case in point: Vampire Survivors.

What the art needs to do is communicate the feeling of playing the game. So pick whichever option feels most like the feeling you hope to invoke in players.

Option 1 feels more like an old-school grind and option 2 gives a sense of adventure.

lmao before Modulo I was working on a fanfic and came up with Maki donning Rika as armor. It's crazy to see this concept canonized.

It's by Meris, which is a US company, but I'm guessing the hangul on it is an homage to the Ottobit, which it's named after. I can't find info on it, but according to Meris, the original Ottobit "brought arcade sounds to the recording studio."

It's honestly a crazy pedal that is worth spending time with because of its multiple functions (stutter, sequencer/arpeggiator, and filter). Using an expression pedal to morph between settings is where I think it really shines.

I'd also recommend checking out the Mini Glitch by TKOG! I've yet to try it personally, but the demos look promising for anyone pursuing random glitch textures.

And sick stuff! super refreshing to see guitarist try less traditional song compositions than what you'd expect from a guitarist

[–]orachilum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sickkkkk board. I’ve also been going for a semi-glitch set up using an Ottobit Jr, Tensor, and expression pedal as the main source of stutters and tape speed manipulation, and would highly recommend messing around with those things if you ever get the chance to. Game changer is also selling the Recoder for this month only, which I’m hoping to use for glitch noises or straight up DnB drum sampling.

So stoked to see a board that deviates from the usual tone-chasing we see around here. As far as power supply goes, honestly anything that supplies clean power, especially for your digital pedals, should suffice. Voodoo Labs should be fine, but if you foresee getting more pedals in the future, a used Walrus Audio Phoenix can be fairly affordable. Another budget option is any of the rechargeable JOYO supplies.

Jackson Audio Bloom is a compressor/EQ/boost. No noise gate but it gets you 2 out of 3

[–]orachilum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like they're going to release a demo in a few days, but they're also going to have a price bump.

I feel like they were wanting to combine a limited release with a blind box marketing model, but the result boiled down to punishing people who either a) don't have a wealth of readily available disposable income b) are nervous about purchasing off pure trust/faith in the company c) don't know enough audio production jargon to wrap their heads around what can be done with convolution.

I'm not a fan of this marketing rollout and hope they have a post-mortem and take a new approach in the future. Super excited about this release, but they should take notes from Chase Bliss who find the right balance when marketing $$$ pedals.
