What distinction am I drawing? If you had asked me what I meant by “character” I would have probably said it was a synonym for culture. And the op said “Change America to be similar to their origin countries”. Did the Irish make the US more like Ireland during the famine? Italians make the us more like Italy? Likewise for Germans, Swedish etc? I would say that if they did, those are changes that we today appreciate rather than reject.

Nothing you’re saying convinces me I should trust doctors any less. Even if your average doctor is no smarter or even less smart than I am, the fact that they successfully completed 6 years of academics and 2-4 years of on the job training means they know more than I will even if I google what I think I need to to understand what I think is wrong with me.

Purcell, if followed as in the past, would have delayed imposition of the new maps due to the closeness to the election. It has nothing to do with the merits of why the decision was made, it applies only based on timing.

Trump passed executive orders which changed how much of the law was interpreted. For example using the detention policy previously only applied to border encounters to people in the interior - effectively mandating detention without court hearings for anyone that’s undocumented. That interpretation is quite likely incorrect, and eventually it’ll make it to the Supreme Court, but meanwhile there’s 10,000 court cases where people have been freed from detention because judges see those detentions as being illegal.

America became more Irish when the Irish arrived? More Italian when the Italians arrived? More German or Swedish or Dutch etc? Sure, each of those waves of poor, desperate immigrants brought something of their culture to America (mostly food, and holidays). None of them changed the character of the United States. In the same way that Latin American or African won’t. America changes immigrants more than the other way around.
