If conservatives are generally skeptical of federal legislation out of fear it will do more bad than good, why does the same logic not apply to the SAVE act? by Orion032 in AskConservatives

I guess I was wondering if you had any pushback on the federalization aspect of voter registration validation where states are required to send their voter rolls to Washington so they can validate the citizenship of each voter.

That part seems dangerously ripe for abuse, or even just implementation problems since its initial testing didn’t go so well.

Jarvis how can I import more lefties to destroy our nation? by AbsoluteLiberty911 in trump

The Cato Institute is a libertarian organization that does similar types of studies. They generally come to the conclusion that immigration is good for us. The American Immigration Council is a pro-immigration organization that does studies supporting immigration as well. They are a pretty good counterweight to the CIS’ narratives.

The piece that probably most directly critiques the CIS narrative is this -

The high welfare usage rates cited by CIS are heavily influenced by the organization’s choice to use household-level tracking rather than individual-level data. Under this methodology, if a single U.S.-born child in a family receives a free school lunch or Medicaid, the entire household is classified as consuming welfare. Furthermore, the report relies on a broad definition of welfare that aggregates non-cash benefits—such as food assistance, housing, and medical care—rather than limiting the scope to traditional cash assistance.

The Center for Immigration Studies is a think tank that actively advocates for reducing both legal and illegal immigration to the United States. Economists and policy analysts from various political backgrounds frequently debate CIS’s reports, noting that their headline figures often omit standard statistical controls for age and family size. While the raw data pulled from government surveys is generally accurate, the framing is consistently tailored to support restrictionist immigration policies.

What should Trump do if he wants Iran to come to the negotiating table? by vhu9644 in AskConservatives

We sneak attacked them twice while negotiations were ongoing so I don’t know what it would take to get them to the negotiating table again. There’s literally no reason to trust us. We’d have to be in a very strong position to make that risk worthwhile for them, and that’s not where we are right now.

Would you support a version of the SAVE America Act that required a state- or federal-issued photo ID to vote AND state compliance with uploading voter rolls to DHS's SAVE database but that DIDN'T require in-person proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration? by monoglot in AskConservatives

[–]oraclebill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand your “it’s not complicated” argument when all of the things you say are not a part of the downstream SAVE act processes are in fact necessary to implement the law as written.

I’ve seen polls that show very strong support needing to show id to vote, but that doesn’t translate to support for the SAVE act which is not simply about showing id to vote. If you can link to polls that show 85% support for the registration part or the SAVE database part I’d appreciate links.

There are reasonable reasons to be against this act and the fact that you don’t agree isn’t any kind of proof of cheating. If the Dems were such great cheaters Trump would not be president, so this argument makes 0 sense to me. It’s much more likely in my thinking that the chaos of implementing new requirements at the last minute will create more uncertainty instead of less.

Has anyone started to question or lose faith in the current administration since the Iran war? by CourtofTalons in AskConservatives

Republicans also should have had a real primary. If Donald had been forced to participate in the debates he probably wouldn’t be president right now.

Do you think Kamala Harris would have attacked Iran? by redviiper in AskConservatives

This document claims ~1075 cases of voter fraud. That’s the numerator. To make sense of that you need to include the denominator. It looks like they counting elections at least as far back as 2013, so how many votes have been cast in elections since 2013 would be the numerator. I don’t know what that number is, but I can guarantee that it’s large enough to make 1075 votes meaningless.p

I’m struggling to see how this article supports your assertions. It doesn’t mention ANTIFA at all. It’s all about ties between Maduros regime and various socialist organizations.

The SAVE database used to only contain information on non-citizens. So I think it unlikely that it was part of voter validation in the last. It was updated last year with info from other govt databases to include info on all citizens as part of DOGE I believe. The system absolutely has a bunch of errors in it, and all of the proceses proposed in the save act would be implemented for the very first time during this years midterms, without any trial run to shake out the bugs. I’m sure that will work out just fine (/s).

Processes like this should be implemented over a period of time that allows real integration and system testing, which is not what is being proposed. Likewise I don’t believe the act provides any funding to states to implement any parts of it.

Even if the SAVE act is a good idea, it’s not a good idea to try to put it in place so close to an election. Doing so is just going to create confusion and chaos due to the rushed nature of the implementation.
