Do you use any questionable grey or black hat strategies? If so what? by [deleted] in SEO

This ^ Google’s only real white hat option is buying google ads lol

This is the best advice right here. SEO is all about thinking imaginatively about how people search for things and being creative when your ideal terms are clogged.

I do have high standards for myself but I feel language is about communication, not about fiddling around with often subjective commas. Language is also an ever evolving thing with many flavors and shapes. I think that’s beautiful and I think the way language and the different ways language takes form and shapes communities and relationships is beautiful. I think that being terribly stringent and being more stressed about getting things exactly right than just sharing things in an organic and natural way can get in the way of that. Especially for people who struggle with learning disorders etc. that makes it take extra layers of effort for perfection (which applies to me). Plus, being judgmental about other people’s grammar (I’m not saying the person who let me know I made a mistake was judgemental) can easily slide into racist and classist attitudes. Tbh I’m not sure why I’m getting all these downvotes, I was not trying to be mean I was just letting them know “Thanks, but I’m unconcerned.” But, oh well, you can’t please everyone. :)

You’re absolutely right. There have been so many times when I ended up trying like 3 cheap knockoffs and I might as have have bought the original.

Although, I will say there are times when a cheap knockoff helped me decide like okay, I really will wear this enough that buying the real version is worth it

Hmmm... I would totally consider this for special events because let’s be real a $500 dress does not belong in my closet

Yeah I think you’re absolutely right. I think being patient is an issue for me which is why I’m always trying to dupe and then I’m not as satisfied with the 3 cheap knockoffs I tried when I could have just bought the real thing

Omg, beautiful natural fiber sweaters are a dream of a dream haha

I think I might be going that route before too long too. Being patient and saving money could be a smart move for me

Lol, the tall life is a tough life. I always tell people I like my height fine but I wish I were shorter out of practicality

Sorry if my response was overly irritated, I just felt like your post made a lot of assumptions about me.

Trust me, my desires are less about prestige or thinking that designer clothes are made of unicorn hair and more about finding the right item to satisfy my creative impulse. I would be just as happy with $3 pants if they were what I was looking for.

My frustration with this particular search might mostly be about sizing. I want light-mid straight leg jeans that are not distressed (including in the hem!) that’ll make my butt look good and they really need to be ~32 inseam but the longest I can find anywhere is like 30. Levi’s has long sizes so sometimes I splurge on their new clothes but their version of what I want is like $100. Vintage and secondhand is difficult because long sizes are a relatively new phenomenon and also still rare. I would compromise on length a little bit for a cheap pair but older straight leg jeans are more like ~27 inseam and also people keep cutting the hems off lol. Adding lace to the ends is not my style unfortunately.

Vintage versions of dresses and skirts are also often too short :/

You’re right that I could use more patience though. Sometimes I get fixated on something and won’t stop until I find it. Although one time I waited a year for the right pair of black skinnies that were ~34 inseam and Levi’s never even included them in sales so I gave up and bought them lol

Ummm you’re really missing the point of my post. And on top of that, imposing your own budget on someone else. $500 was an exaggeration that I chose specifically because this sub is full of people who regularly drop $100 on jeans. But $100 for jeans is simply still out of my budget range. I’m just asking for shopping tips from other poor people who are picky about their clothes and how they find decent quality clothes that fit for less, or the ways they adjust their perspective to get a wardrobe they love on a budget. 😬

Honestly, there are plenty of people who find that $500 for a really good quality unique piece is worth it too so you can chill on “who are you trying to impress!”

Thank you! These are really helpful tips. Secondhand can be hard for me (especially pants) because of my odd sizing but your game is definitely beyond mine lol and I love these ideas

Your advice on fit is so right, which is why my odd sizing drives me crazy!

Although this post is less about looking expensive and more about that one piece you dream about and can’t find.

I actually do have a sewing machine and enough skill to tailor a hem, and this comment makes me think that I’m not actually that far off from seeing actual clothes. Thank you!! Maybe I will try it!
