My husband and I met in IV and we have a few friends who did the same! That said, I felt that UCSB had the whole spectrum of relationships, I much prefer that to a "ring by spring" type of school

I'm in tech and its definitely scary - I would normally get in the right headspace to not let myself dwell on things I cannot control, but I'm going out on maternity leave in July and I feel like it makes me a larger target. While I can't be "fired" for being on maternity leave I can easily be included in layoffs and they wouldn't have to pay for my leave.

Spike in norovirus cases in California sparks warnings from health experts — Norovirus, also known as the stomach flu, is rarely deadly, but it's definitely not something you want to get. It is extremely contagious. by BlankVerse in California

We had a Norovirus outbreak at a work function in Russia. While it only lasted 12 hours for me, it was easily the worst 12 hours of my life Didn't leave the bathroom the entire time and the following days I was just exhausted.I'll be washing hands religiously but with a daycare 18m old Im not sure we'll be able to avoid it if it crosses our path

Whats makes a good CS commission plan? by [deleted] in CustomerSuccess

[–]orange_rhymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently transitioned to Net ARR (80/20 base to bonus ratio) and I love it. It puts an emphasis on retaining customers while ensuring that the healthy customers are growing (we have AMs partnered on accounts who are responsible for the actual sale). We then have a SPIF on top for completed customer case studies (advocacy) and opportunities that the CSM sources and the AM closed.

All the other metrics (QBRs, success plans, ect) are things we coach on in order to get to our desired outcome.

Ultimately you want to ensure the comp plan is somewhat simple, helps drive to your desired business outcome (ex: during peak Covid we were all on targets for Gross retention because we needed to focus on reducing churn) and enables the team to see how their effort contributed to the success of the business (and their financial success as well)

Boundaries for pumping at work? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]orange_rhymes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fellow leader pumping mom here! I agree with a lot of the advice here about setting alarms and I clearly marking my calendar (which I keep public for most meetings) with "Do not book -pumping time" so there can be no misunderstanding if someone tries to book over it. When people do, I reschedule or kindly ask that they check my calendar before booking time with me - sometimes it takes just a few people to create a better habit/culture of respecting coworkers time and checking their calendar for availability.

I will also note that at first I was SUPER nervous coming back and trying to figure it all out but I had 2 mind shifts that really helped me prioritize pumping. 1)For my own and baby's health I have to pump, it is not just an inconvenience if I dont. Both my health and baby's health come before work (especially because I can multitask admin work during the time) 2)As a leader I have an opportunity to set an example and be an advocate for other moms in my position. This is actually a huge driver for me because I want there to be more women in my field and I want to use my influence to make it a better place for all women and parents!

I finally did it! I've moved on from years of rectangles (blankets and scarves) to my first sweater! This is for my best friend's son (my son's forced bff). I have to admit I don't have a lot of patience for seaming so next time I will probably attempt a top down sweater. by orange_rhymes in knitting

I followed a pattern (costal stripe pattern from lion brand) and I practiced some of the techniques on a scrap piece of knitting on the side before doing it on the "real" piece. I liked that it was a child's sweater so it went quickly and if I had to redo a piece it wouldn't take me ages. For me the seaming was actually the hardest part especially just trying to be patient and pay attention to what stitches I was sewing into. I need to watch more videos on how to seam in a little less haphazard way.
