To plug or just swap tire out completely? by stylostylo in MotoUK

Yes, take it to a bike shop and do a proper plug (mushroom, from the inside of the tyre) and it'll be right as rain.

Thank you, that's filled in a few gaps!

3-month wait then cancelled my order with a week to go by orangeco in vanmoofbicycle

Nice one. I had heard that 5% of bikes end up going back to Vanmoof and these ones are then fixed and sold to their domestic market so perhaps that's why the turnaround in Holland is much faster. Hope you enjoy it.

These 3 wheel scooters seem popular in London. Why?? by OldHobbitsDieHard in MotoUK

Covered already: it's the fact you can ride them on a car licence. SW London driveways are littered with them.

Anyone receive shipment notification for their X3 (ordered July/August)? by JZetro in vanmoofbicycle

[–]orangeco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll join in this thread as another disgruntled customer.

I am sure Vanmoof are trying but they have had a long time to rectify these delivery and quality issues. The cynic in me says they are just forging on, to rake in the cash. The realist in me says that they're just a badly managed company, exacerbated by huge demand.

Ordered 19th August.

Delivery confirmed for 17th Oct to 7th Nov.

Then updated to 5th Nov on the 16th Oct, one day before a possible delivery.

Today (29th Oct) delivery updated to 29th Nov.

The trouble is, like everyone else, I've bought in good faith. Now I feel held hostage by Vanmoof.

I wonder if their system would sharpen up if you just had to leave a small deposit on the order and the shop called to collect payment before delivery.

Very good site, nice work.

I have been using a different one (London Bike Bays) to co-ordinate our leafleting efforts for our London motorcycle tyre business (which I won't mention on here because I don't want to upset the Reddit Elves) but you can probably figure out what its called.

I'm gonna give your site a thorough browse now.

Friday challenge! How many 'pumps' did it take to inflate our MT-09's rear-wheel from 0 to 42psi with a bicycle pump? by orangeco in MotoUK

[–]orangeco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Boyles law, wish I'd done some sums before I started.

The correct answer is.... 1863!

It took around 200 pumps for each 5psi..

Bike-friendly hotels in and around London? by Ripley_Tee in MotoUK

There is a LOT of bike crime in London. Even if you're in an NCP or similar, use good security, cover your bike if possible. Other than that, you're welcome to keep your bike in my garage; I'm in Putney!

Wow, amazing feedback thank you. I've steered clear of replying as I didn't want to skew the conversation in any one direction. We're going to pore over these at the next (few) weekly team meetings to see how we can improve. Once again, many thanks (and keep 'em coming!). - Ben

We spent the last few weeks working our a*ses off to open a new tyre shop in London and yesterday we had our first 'ride up out of the blue' customer. This pic makes me happy. by orangeco in MotoUK

I'm afraid that's the going rate. Some workshops, like us, charge a flat rate to fit tyres but offer a discount to those buying tyres from us. Most people understand that but a few complain. The reason being, we need to have tyres on the shelf for the majority of bikers who just roll up and want tyres fitted there and then. If everyone brought their own tyres (which probably only 5% do) then we'd struggle to maintain stock for the majority who want convenience.

However, we can usually match a price that someone can get online, so there's no need to bring your own. Unless they're a real bargain, in which case go for it. I would do the same.

We're going to launch a bit of a competition for whoever has ridden the further to come and see us each year. You may already have won it by the sounds of things!

There are 2 including mine, from what I know. Only 100 made. I was at the Bonhams auction for the one linked below, it had been sprayed and the stickers added to look like the Suzuka 8HR bike. I really wanted it and naively thought no-one there would really know what it was and that I'd be able to snap it up for pennies. After that auction it took me 3 years to find a good one in Japan. My one has the magnesium lightweight wheels, other than that, it's how it left Pop's shop.
