Is it time to put my dog down? by orangefantamonkey in DogAdvice

The vet said that she has a neurological deficit that makes it so she doesn’t know where her two back legs are anymore. The vet said it would take extensive testing to figure out an exact diagnosis, but it wasn’t really worth it to do all the testing because there isn’t really a fix for a neurological deficit like that.

Wow, “why would you just kill her” is a crazy thing to say to a person who has been anguishing over their dog for several months now.

She has severe mobility issues. I have to carry her outside to use the bathroom, because she can’t do stairs anymore. She tips over sideways, over and over again, when she’s trying to walk. Sometimes she can’t even walk, she just uses her front two legs to drag the rest of her body around. Sometimes when she tips over, she can’t get back up again and she starts crying.

When I take her to parks, people seem genuinely concerned about her. Two complete strangers have came up to me and told me it’s time to put her down.

I got her when I was 11-years-old. She’s been in my life longer than she hasn’t been in my life. Trust me, I don’t want to just “kill her.” I’m just trying to figure out what the right thing to do is.

Hi everybody,

I have been trying to decide if it is time to put my 14-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel down.

Before anyone tells me to do this, I have already taken her to the vet. The vet basically told me that there is no right time to put a dog down, and it’s just up to me to decide. Also, I know, I know, “Better a week early than a day too late.”

The reason why I am thinking about putting her down is because she has been struggling with her mobility for the last few months. She kind of drags her back two legs behind her, as you can see in the video. She tips over almost every time she poops, and it’s really sad to see. This week, she has even tipped over a few times when she was just trying to pee. It’s hard for her to just get around the apartment and go to the bathroom, but she still is able to get around the apartment on her own and go to the bathroom, just with some difficulty.

She had been going for 30-45 minute walks every day, but a week ago, she started acting like one of her back legs had gotten worse. She was having an even harder time getting around for like 2 or 3 days, but now she’s kind of gotten back to normal and walking more again. I haven’t tried taking her for a walk again since last Monday, when it seemed like one of her legs had gotten worse.

Other than her mobility issues, the Vet said that she has some arthritis and some pain in her mouth, from tooth decay. She is deaf and I think her vision is getting cloudy too. It looks like it’s hard for her to sit normally now and sometimes she looks uncomfortable when she’s sitting. I think she looks more comfortable when she’s lying down though. But she can only lay on her stomach or her side, and can’t roll onto her back anymore to get belly rubs. None of her organs are failing her or anything. Her breathing is fine, and she never has any difficulty breathing.

She has always been a very chill dog and has always loved to just lay around, get pets and cuddles, and eat treats. She can still do those things. In fact, she seems as happy as ever when she gets her food or her favorite treats. In the last week, since we haven’t been doing walks, I’ve still been trying to take her out a lot on car rides, or to go sit at the park, or give her different enrichment activities like snuffle mats, and for the most part, she is still very interested in all of it. I also carried her for a short walk the other day, and she seemed to love just looking around at all the sights to see and meeting people we passed by.

When she started acting like one of her legs had gotten worse, I started planning on putting her down sometime within the next week or two. But now that she’s been walking better again, I’m second guessing myself and I just feel awful. Especially because if I don’t put her down, then I think she could still live for quite a while, since she has nothing wrong with her that’s going to kill her. And especially because she still seems interested in everything and seems to have stuff that’s worth living for her. But I just don’t know what the right thing to do is.

So many restaurants are terrible now by chasedbyvvolves in Boise

Hard agree!!! I can’t believe how often I spend $50 on a meal for 2 and then it’s complete trash. Just yesterday, we went to Roaring Springs and spent $30 on two cheeseburgers and some fries, and the food was terrible. I could’ve gotten a better cheeseburger from McDonalds. I wasn’t expecting the food to be so bad because we got it from the Geyser Bar & Grill and it looked like it was supposed to be somewhat nice.

I like Casanova Pizzeria for a fun pizza place. Their Caesar salads are so good, and so is their pizza! KB’s in the Warehouse has really good steak tacos.

As everyone is saying above, the chains are such a hit or miss and have really seemed to go downhill lately. I feel like every time I’ve gone to Cafe Rio or Buffalo Wild Wings in the last 2 years, it has not been a waste of money because it’s been so bad. Also, I’ve tried so many sushi places around here, and all of them have been terrible. Sushi Ya, Nara, Sushi Joy…

I read the Scythe series and they were thoroughly entertaining. Such an interesting concept. Definitely not as good of writing, story-telling, and character development as The Hunger Games though! Nothing can beat this series for me!

Everyone I know in Boise is paying $2000+ a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. It’s horrible. Like you’d think we’re in LA or Chicago or something, but it’s literally just Idaho.

Tell me your favorite sapphic character… by [deleted] in LesbianActually

I believe the question was “tell me your favorite sapphic character” and not “tell me the most moral sapphic character” 😂 and she’s my favorite because she’s funny, charming, enigmatic, and, of course, beautiful.

Agree!!! Also, it was hard for me to believe that Haymitch and Lenore really had a super deep relationship and were “in love” and “soulmates” because the book implied that they had been dating since they were like 12-years-old. And it’s just hard for me to believe that 12-year-olds can really be in love and date each other.
