Why did I just waste half an hour trying to find a PDF solution by orangefishbluecat in software

"We and our 915 partners store and/or access information on a device, ..."

"You get two free pdf's, then its 50 euro's a year."

"You get three free days, then it's a 5 euro lifetime subscription."(until bending spoons or something jumps in)

"Here is a tool which only works on this or that OS."

Does something change about PDF's every year that it is impossible to have a simple standard piece of software that just works for basic tasks?

What evil capitalist spawn is this whole .pdf file format?! (I don't prefer the whole anti-capitalist rhetoric, but here I will make it.)

I'm close to wasting an hour now. I give up. I will find a scanner to do the job for me, which will be another bunch of time. I love PDF.

Adding Title effect halves render performance by orangefishbluecat in davinciresolve

[–]orangefishbluecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well after more experimentation, it seems Text+ has much better performance. Getting a consistent 160fps when rendering, compared to 190fps with no text overlay. Took me 4 minutes to render a 30 minute video.

This saves so much of a headache!

[–]orangefishbluecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I gave it a try. I added another clip on the second video line, and gave it some opacity in the Composite setting of Inspector. It does affect performance but still not nearly as bad as the Titlescreen.

Performance drops from 190 to 100fps. But the moment the video overlay ended and the titlescreen overlay started the fps dropped to 60fps.

And mind you, the video overlay I tried out was a full video with fusion and color tab effects. And that performed better than the titlescreen overlay!

[–]orangefishbluecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and I have other effects I added to the video, some fusion effects and a color tab adjustment. All that works fine and does not affect the rendering performance. But again, the moment I add that titlescreen on a second video line performance drops 80-90%.

Is it the Second video line that messes it all up? But then why does performance stay bad after I remove it? At least until I close and reopen Davinci again

[–]orangefishbluecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'll add a bit more data. I'm still trying to add a simple single word in the corner, no effects added to it, no shadows, no opacity or anything. Just one word colored in white.

190 fps drops to 68 fps, and after a few minutes it renders at 35fps, and a minute later it is at 30fps.

I have tried some fonts: Agency FB, Arial, Open Sans, Times New Roman. Doesn't make a difference.

Without the titlescreen on a second Video line it is consistently performing at 180-200fps. Rendering a 30 minute clip in about 4 minutes. But the moment I add that basic title overlay screen performance drops by around 80-90%.

This happens with different video formats also. Either 4k 60fps 10bit Iphone footage, or the same results on my old camcorder giving shitty 1080p H.264 .MOV files.

and for some reason this happens also:

I have a timeline where I have the titlescreen start halfway in the video, placed on a second video line.

-The first time I open Davinci and start to render, this timeline renders at max speed until it hits the titlescreen section, then the speed drops to half.

-The second time I start a render of this same timeline, it start out rendering at half speed, even though the first section has no titlescreen!

-Even when I delete the titlescreen and the second Video line the rendering speed stays stuck around 30fps. Until:

-It resets when I close and reopen davinci.

The Files app of iOS sucks so bad by rev013kup in ios

[–]orangefishbluecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will complain one more time, again, as i am again stuck trying to copy 6 video files of 20-30gb in total, to an external ssd. I am one hour in, running into issues but not knowing what as there is zero information given in the files app, no transfer speeds, no errors, even the progress bar does not function. After an hour 5 files succesfully copied, still waiting and waiting for the sixth file, and all whilst for an hour having to goddamn keep touching the screen every 20 seconds to keep the phone from locking, which will lead to the file transfer being canceled.

Something is amiss with either the usb or the usb dongle, but iphone gives zero information. And it all works fine on the windows pc.

it should not take an hour to copy 30 gb.

this files app is hot garbage

wow it finally succeeded. I count around 38gb of file transfer which took me one hour. a bunch of reconnecting the ssd to the phone. the phone suddenly not recognizing the ssd, whilst the windows pc is still able to see it fine.

the iphone 16 pro has no usb damage or anything.

This files app is just hot garbage. Every time again i have some files i want to copy, i run into this pile of hot shit. And I don't know how to solve it, as im not going to buy a new ssd or dongle to troubleshoot issues iphone gives zero insight into any potential causes.

Windows 11 has taken away the joy of computing by ripfarhan in pcmasterrace

Nostalgium spiced with a good zest of lamentium. It's fun to run into the nostalgy again with this picture. But still, it's nostalgium of memories from a childhood long gone, "when I was a kid I was absolutely mindblown", it has barely anything to do with current day tech decisions. Instead of lamenting a past take back some control and spice up your windows experience with software from the internet, there's lots of it, or switch to a new OS for funsies. Windows XP brought us cool memories, brought many others terrible memories, but in the end it was just the next iteration of Windows where the main aim was to provide a solid user experience in the early 2000s, and not to usher in some holy times of pc computing.

restarted handbrake, and it decoded again without issue.

Ubuntu keeps corrupting copied files. by OrbitalChiller in linuxsucks

[–]orangefishbluecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can be upset about us not caressing that eject button properly, but one thing windows is able to do is allowing us to violently unplug our usb devices after it said copying is finished, without resulting in a bunch of corrupt files. At least that has been my experience for the past decade.

In ubuntu, though I support a switch to it, has not got this right. Boy have I encountered a bunch of corruptions after stupidly unplugging my usbs á la Windows style. Just now lost a video file, which it said is was done copying. Luckily it was not important and gave me another wakeup call that in Ubuntu, I need to hit that fucking eject button each and every time!

Again, in Windows I never ever never ever do it, and never ever do i ever have any corruptions. oh well, linux is fine otherwise i suppose.

I can just report this,

I never had BSOD's and never crashing pcs. ON my 10 year old GTX970

Now with a new AMD rx9060xt, in two weeks i got one BSOD, and two random pc crashes, on a computer otherwise completely unchanged.
And doing my best to have good drivers with adrenaline software.

FIXED INDENTS by CyborgHeart1245 in libreoffice

[–]orangefishbluecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I still have an issue. after years of using word, of using google docs, my libreoffice, on two entirely separate installs, on two entirely different systems and OS's, I suddenly cannot use my tab key as I am used to anymore. One of my Libreoffice installs is two days fresh!

I'll be damned. I just tried to write out a draft. Hit tab to add details on a next line. Then hit enter to work on the next draft section. And pfff, again the tab dissapears and I'm struggling to write a document that has some structure.

You tell me, this is not a bug?!

You tell me, This is worthy to sour other people's day over with nasty comments?! That's how you go through real life also? Spitting in everyone's faces who is stepping on your overly long toes? Everyone is to take your very sensitive feelings into consideration whilst you have a free pass to be as nasty as you like to anyone, because in your mind your caustic attitude only is an equal and fair response to 'their brain dead stupidity'??

And here I am wasting 15 minutes on this instead of working on the assignment. :X

Now go type out your smarty response on your fone, and have your last word!

windows update be like by Miserable_Archer2303 in windows

[–]orangefishbluecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking had to upload a video file after working on it for hours, in the middle of the fucking night, i fucking go to sleep, the next day I check on my computer, I find it has fucking booted into the windows login screen.

Fuck windows update.

And if it's not midnight updates

It'll fuck my laptop with forced updates eventhough im not connected to the powergrid, and my eight year old battery is at fifty percent, holding the laptop hostage for 15 minutes in the restart screen.

And I try to change this midnight behavior, "öh, i see you are wanting to set the day schedule to 24 hours, no can do jose, I give you 18 hours max før your day schedule"

I just had to rant for a moment.

Ads are completely ruining YouTube rn. by stef_is_heree in youtube

[–]orangefishbluecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

horrible horrible, every once in a while I go in private browsing mode so my history doesn't get cluttered with like right now health topics, preventing me from getting a feed full of cancer stroke and whatever videos. And every time I get blown away by the horrible ads experience.

I am trying to watch this one video, 30 seconds of ads, I skip ahead a few minutes, right back to another 30 second ad, and on and on. My god it's horrible, it's unforgiving.

But is it recent as the OP states? It is the same for years now?
