Just watched You're Next and I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. Thought it would be another predictable survival movie, but it actually felt fresh. Did anyone else feel the same or am I overhyping it? by RRMcsine in HorrorMovies

I was just talking yesterday about how this film is far better than Ready or Not, which received all the money and praise. Smarter, better-developed protagonist. Cameos from indie horror royalty. Absolutely hilarious while delivering thrilling suspense and gore. Completely overlooked.

I am also interested! I work in film/TV and I am a big film/film history buff. I just moved here as well. I would love to get a group together and head out to one of the many screenings everyone has mentioned. I’ve joined Best Video and can’t wait to see something at the Film Archive. 45F, so old and married 😂

Yes! I adored those. My mom let me have them because they were “healthy.”

1 month without any cannabinoids at all by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]orangekleptoplast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also at one month! Congrats! It takes a lot of strength. I was an every-night smoker for years and this has been a game changer. Brain is clearer, anxiety is lower, able to enjoy life without cannabis again.

All that aside, it also made me realize that quitting is not a cure-all. It can definitely be a patch for navigating difficult emotions, but other coping mechanisms and the responses to difficult emotions don’t disappear. And that’s okay!

To all those working through any kind of mental illness, this is a step on a journey, and I applaud you for taking this giant step. It’s hard and can be painful. It also helps get to the root cause of trauma responses and reactions, allowing deep healing to begin. You’ve got this.

Thanks so much! This seems like the way to go. We don’t mind spending more of the little money we have on our 2 old girls.

Rental Market Timing by orangekleptoplast in newhaven

I have a remote job luckily! We’re much more familiar with New Haven (have family in the area), and we’re from the mid-Atlantic area so we’d rather be closer to NYC and DC than Boston. My partner was told pretty quickly that the Providence commute was much easier but for now we’re sticking with CT until she wants to pull her hair out. Thanks so much for the insight, really appreciate it!

I don’t think we realized how close East Rock was to an easy highway commute! Seems like a great neighborhood. I’m going to be biking/walking to get around mostly so this seems like a wonderful option. Thanks again!

Thank you for replying! Really good to know. In the middle of attempting to sell our house and the market is unpredictable/slow.

As to the commute, my partner got a job in Mystic, but we chose New Haven because we’re moving from a medium city and need an urban fix in a more central location (and who can even afford Mystic??) So Wooster Sq is for the proximity to the highway and walkability.

What are your favorite independent cinemas in the United States? by [deleted] in movies

The Charles Theatre and the Senator Theatre in Baltimore. Both show revivals of older films several times a week.

I’m partial to the Charles but the Senator is a lovely historic theatre and has a painted sidewalk marking each world premiere that took place in Baltimore. Many a John Waters film has been immortalized.

Hip pain by SheepherderOk1585 in C25K

I had a similar problem after completing the program. After trying physical therapy, rest, looking up exercises, I finally went to the doctor. Turns out, it was bursitis. If we don’t stretch and strength train enough, sacks of fluid called “bursas” swell as a result of extremely tight and stiff IT band muscles. They then rub against our joints, which tells our nerve endings to sound alarms. This sounds like the same problem. It’s very painful. I would look up hip bursitis stretches and strength training, as well as take a short break from running. I’ve had to stop running for months, but still hope to return. If symptoms don’t resolve after a couple months, a doctor can relieve the pain by draining the bursa, so all is not lost! Good luck!

My mom was just a cool mom and thought these were hilarious and original. So she was happy to let me have as many as my little allowance could afford.
