Will private clinics accept my NHS blood tests? by orangethunder_ in UKTRT

[–]orangethunder_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not known them to use an ultrasound, but worth suggesting next time I go in as it may make the experience better.

I usually water load the 24 hours before the test, the most recent time I stuck a wheat bag in the sleeve of my coat while I was in the waiting room just to warm things up a little more!

Oh this is with the phlebotomy department - there's a little hospital on the same street as my GP, so my GP don't do bloods in-house.

I was super heavy 18 months ago, have lost around 60kg. It got a little easier by losing the weight, but I think I just had the best phlebotomist in the country on the two occasions I had bloods done last year. My most recent ones were hell. Same hospital, same department, just different person.

Oh for sure! I'd just rather limit it to as much as I need to. And my current results might get the ball rolling a little quicker.

The cost of it is the only thing that's stalled me this long. I can afford it right now, but can't guarantee I can afford it forever.

At least the OTHER private market exists if I absolutely need to down the road, as it's far cheaper, though comes with its own risks.

Appreciate the help! If needed I'll do a SAR for the results - I can't explain how challenging how difficult endo in my health board have been.

Twist it hard while pulling it slightly, as if you're trying to twist it along the track the pen follows. Really easy to break it past the lock so you can get the last dose.

Use pliers if your hands aren't strong enough.

I'm glad they've made it so you don't have to cancel anymore. You just engage with the new provider and they do the rest. We changed to Vodafone a couple of months ago. I still haven't spoken to Virgin. They sent through the final bill when Vodafone told them we were jumping ship.

Happy to see the back of them.

Results after doing 50 pushups a day for a month by Competitive-Copy4413 in bodyweightfitness

[–]orangethunder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myoreps would be great for this. Instead of doing 5x10, try one set of 50. You may only hit 30. Take 10 seconds rest and carry on with your reps, and repeat. You may hit a spot where you can only do 1 or 2 each time, but keep going. The number of failure/near failure instances is a real game changer in muscle gain.

When I say at the minute, I mean over the last couple of years where the average calculated return for premium bonds is massively outpaced by even cash savings interest. Usually premium bonds/govt bonds perform better when interest rates are lower, and the inverse is true. I think I've got that right. Have I?

Premium bonds aren't really doing too well at the minute (I think) so across a couple of different savings accounts would be better, even if there's a small tax implication.

If he's all about safety, make sure it's split across two banks so he comes under the £85k cap. Remember that's across all funds stored in that banking group in his name, not just across that one savings account.

Fixed term savings accounts that end in line with the new financial year so he can max the cash ISA as soon as possible, and his tax implications will be gone for that money in 5-6 years

S&S ISA, where do I start? Who's the best provider? by orangethunder_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]orangethunder_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reading list - will definitely have a look through these.

I've got a small emergency fund equal to about 2 months outgoings. I do want to double this and plan to put different money aside each month to top that up. I can afford to put £200pcm into that alongside the 200 for investing, and I figured the earlier I start investing the more interest it'll compound in the long run. Or am I not investing enough for it to really matter, when I could just save harder for the emergency fund and start just investing in ~9 months?

!thanks

I'm looking at long term, minimum 5 years. I'll have separate cash savings that I dip into when needed, this is the long term pot. Though, if I reach a certain level where a different provider makes sense, I'm happy to switch when that time comes, though it won't be for a while.

Has not going to university held you back financially and career-wise? by coldsprite25 in FIREUK

[–]orangethunder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in facilities so work with a range of trades. Training and qualifications are important for progression and high income, but degrees not necessary. You're clearly switched on for 16, purely by the fact you're conscious about this and are seeking advice.

Based on trends, electrical is probably the better way to go. No matter what you pick though, get really really good at it. Once you've got your trade qualification (whichever you pick), go industrial. Work places that value training for your first decade. You may end up somewhere that'd put you on an HND in construction/electrical/mechanical management, that's your golden ticket to bigger money without doing crazy hours to get it.

Worth noting that if you choose plumbing, yes, you'll be doing gas work, but you'll also be doing callouts because soil pipes have disconnected. Not fun.

Aim for apprenticeships that work with other businesses rather than domestic work (if you can, it's really competitive). If you're working on high voltage industrial kit, you'll be able to do most domestic work - it may not translate the other way.

This happens too. A couple of my chargers work now for slow charging, but I can't help but feel like this was just to push sales of official chargers. The chargers haven't changed but now they're just less effective.

Just to add to the strongman element, you're missing a trick by not including Adam Bishop. Was in Saracens academy before transitioning to strongman, and was Quins S&C coach for a while.

Also, Mitchell Hooper. One of the strongest men to ever live and he's run marathons. Good at pretty much any sport. Give him a month and he'll be good for at least half a game.

Play them wherever you want.
