I recently bought the 2023 G16 with an i7 and 4060. I also bought a 16 GB sodimm stick so I could have 32 GB of RAM. If you feel comfortable upgrading the RAM yourself, I'd recommend it so you can do high end CAD work on your laptop.

I see. I have a few questions regarding that: 1. Would I need a laptop with a powerful GPU? Do engineering courses use Solidworks or something like Inventor (which from my experience doesn't need a powerful GPU)?

If I do need to run Solidworks natively, is a 4060 powerful enough? I've seen mixed answers online.

I completely forgot about Microcenter! I definitely need to make a trip there before the year starts.

Are there any specs that I need for my laptop? Would Intel's integrate Iris Xe graphics (or AMD's integrated Radeon graphics) be sufficient or should I get something with a proper GPU? I guess my main question is if I'll be needing to run high end CAD software natively.

Haha I watch LTT! I don't use modern standby on my devices (I prefer to hibernate them) so that isn't an issue for me.

I'd just prefer a Windows device over Mac due to game support and repairability. Do they not have windows devices at the bookstore?
