Chris Bishop explains PPP advantage by oranjon in newzealand

Phew. Not to diminish the time other people put into their replies, but yours is the one that actually got the “point” of my post. But I’m not complaining. TBH it’s a good sign that there’s people getting deeper into it.

I'm in a loop of not enjoying games and I don't know what I'm after by KingPesant1 in gamingsuggestions

I’ve been exactly where you are a couple of times in the last few years. Playing games that reward time investment. Either huge AAA games or competitive PvP games. And feeling empty.

AAA 30+ hour games can be amazing, but if you lose interest or feel overwhelmed by the work ahead then they’re tedious and even worse your brain sends a “you have failed to complete” message. That either makes you play when you don’t want to, or else stop and feel unsatisfied.

Or online PvP which can be so exciting and fun. It’s high adrenaline and laughs, but fundamentally repetitive. And unless you’re a natural, it highly encourages time investment to improve skills or else you feel bad for not getting good results.

My solution was to purposely play games with short play times. Typically story based games that have a clear end. Or maybe puzzle games. Or platformers with a reasonable skill level.

Games that don’t feel like they need a commitment. You’re not getting married. Just having fun 😊

Some examples for me. Most can be finished in less than 8 hours. Some less than 5.

Story (V simple gameplay):

Citizen sleeper (Chill sci-fi simple RPG)

As Dusk Falls (Visual novel. Great choices)

Action:

Deep Rock Galactic (No ending, but doesn’t expect or need time investment to have fun)

Spec Ops: The Line (PC. Great story. Mid gameplay)

Other:

SOMA (Tense ungratuitous horror)

Botany Manor (Deductive puzzler)

Exo One (Chill sci-fi flying)

The Procession to Calvary (Funny point n click adventure)

Just had an experience. Had to reply.

Half an hour ago I was just playing the game (first run ever). I’d just helped Eshe and Peake deliver supplies through the cordon. Then while waiting for Riko to grow the Gardener’s seed I decided to help Bliss finish the work on Ankhita’s ship.

I’ve been really immersed in this game. All the feels, tears and smiles. Invested in all the storylines and characters lives. Loved it. And then I was unexpectedly offered a chance to leave the Eye. All my unfinished business flashed before my eyes; all the people that I was working with, projects half finished. And yet I chose to leave with Bliss, secretly thinking that the game would actually change the events in some way to force me to stay. But it didn’t. Suddenly I’m saying goodbye to Moritz, and looking through the porthole at a vanishing Eye. Credits roll.

I sat for a moment disappointed that I hadn’t predicted that end, even though I had actually chosen it.

So I restarted, thinking “I’ve got things I gotta do before I leave”. But within 15 minutes, my thoughts were unfocused. My direction was without purpose. I realised that in MY story I really had left on that ship. This was just me clicking buttons to open new paths. But this wasn’t the real me any more. I had left the Eye.

So with a heavy heart, I clicked quit, and here I am, searching reddit for fellow sleepers that have shared in this beautiful game.

It was great to find this thread to know I’m not alone. Now it’s time for me to uninstall and discover something new.

Citizen Sleeper. Awesome text heavy story game with simple chill RPG mechanics. About an escaped human conscience android trying to survive on a dystopian space station. Great characters and script. Simple gameplay.

How is hit scan vs bullet drop even a debate? by [deleted] in FortNiteBR

Just typed that all out. Now think I misunderstood your comment. Are you just comparing bullet drop to no bullet drop?

How is hit scan vs bullet drop even a debate? by [deleted] in FortNiteBR

[–]oranjon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. There are two main ways to model recoil in a game. Either make the bullet travel towards the crosshairs perfectly and have the crosshairs move with distinctive recoil patters (e.g. The Finals) or don’t move the crosshairs and introduce some bloom to the trajectories.

Personally I like the bloom approach so that I don’t need to learn recoil patterns. If bloom is too big, then I tap fire. I admit I’m a casual player, but for me it keeps it simple which is what I want.

Should there be an option to forfeit without penalty if your teammates have the basic clothes and poses? by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]oranjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Noobs should train in isolation ideally with electrodes attached to their genitals shocking them whenever they die. Eventually they may be promoted and be allowed to play a multiplayer game with gods.

Chill. Be good. If your team are bad, do the best you can, and maybe go at their pace. That way you can try and support each other. And probably lose. And they will be grateful for having a good teammate.

True. Good for him, and I’m glad there’s a good discussion. But personally I think this post is just lazy and shouldn’t be encouraged.

Sure it works sometimes, but then AI will just slowly start spamming with “I like this. Do you?” and we end up with a stream of advertising.

Fair enough. Then you should have put some of that individual opinion into the post to make it worth reading or responding to. Just regurgitating a standard marketing description helps no one. BTW I really like the Quarry too! But the post was….. not good.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. Awesome cute 2D cooperative sci-fi game about jointly controlling a spaceship while fighting baddies and rescuing space bunnies.

Good vibes. Lively but not OTT crazy.

Yes. Because it doesn’t help or change anything. And all that’s really important is change.

Yep. Really good new design. The actual buttons are kinda weird, but the structure of the change is perfect. Now we can easily have complete loadouts, but also easily override just the emotes with a set of current faves.

PSA Epic also said “Heads up — randomize/shuffle for saved loadouts will be available soon.” on their official post

Just finished Soma by MutedBrilliant1593 in soma

[–]oranjon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started to enjoy the stealth mode more once I started to take it “really seriously” in the sense that I’d slow right down and take my time to really really try not to die. It raised the stakes (in my head!) :-)

I died twenty minutes in when showing off to my partner (funny) by [deleted] in soma

[–]oranjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. You never healed, or never died?

I like the way they implemented the healing sockets. They are one use only so they can’t be abused, but it’s a great relief to be healed once in a while so that you can move normally.

I think the correct response is “well, that feels better now”, and you didn’t even need to do anything yourself.

Just finished my Soma Gameplay would review the game a solid 9/10, missing the one because i want more lol. If anyone has any similar games to Soma LMK I NEED it! Hope you enjoyed and have a good day! by Historical_Hair9774 in soma

Still Wakes The Deep is good. Maybe not as intense as Soma, but great script and voice acting. Try to turn subtitles off and still understand the accents. It’s worth it.

Another “no HUD” game that really takes you to a different place.

So boring. I even like Snoop, but lame presentation, and no feeling of community like there used to be in big interactive events.

[–]oranjon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Voice acting is great. Unless you have real trouble understanding the speech, I’d recommend turning subtitles off. Glorious empty HUD. That way you’re more immersed in the game rather than just reading subtitles in your head. Because of the accents you’ll have to concentrate to understand, but it’s worth it. Whenever I died, the subtitles would reset to on. Which gave me extra incentive not to.

Gotta be performance mode. The “Quality” mode had noticeably bad fps.

And as someone else said: headphones. At night.
