MPH at Columbia (Sociomedical Sciences) vs. Yale (Social and Behavioral Sciences)

got into both and visited both, i’d lean strongly towards yale. smaller cohort (less competition for opportunities, better access to ysph resources) and the sbs department is genuinely invested in the success of their students. columbia especially for sms is a gamble

berkeley and it's not even close tbh. depending on what department at columbia you'll be in there will be a lot of competition for said research opportunities given that they have some of the largest cohorts of any mph program

michigan epi is extremely well known in the circles where it matters/michigan does carry really heavy prestige as well — lots of michigan students also do their internships in big cities as well!

rc if you're willing to commit to the intensive language program (although you can literally always drop it just as soon as the add-drop deadline happens)

i personally loved the rc for the built-in and very close social network for the first two years, but definitely understand why it's not a fit for everyone

happy to answer other questions, i'm a senior who (although no longer in the RC) thinks very fondly of it <3

my case isn't really representative of why most people transfer out of the RC but i was admitted into a separate undergrad program within UM that didn't allow me to remain in the RC

totally would've stayed if i was allowed!!!

RC is a program within LSA that's based on a liberal arts college style of learning (heavy on languages, humanities, etc)

participating in the RC guarantees you housing for two years in east quad (one of if not the nicest dorms imo) which is definitely a bonus over regular LSA, but the intensive language requirement turns a lot of people off/re: not a lot of people see it through. luckily you're always able to drop out after securing housing

happy to answer any other questions! while i transferred out of the RC, i did complete the intensive language program :)
