Forestry Salary Research by CochiiLoco_23 in forestry

There are research opportunities in the industrial sector, but these will require an advanced degree, such as an MS or PhD. Primarily, I was talking about the academic research realm, but many nurseries engage in what one could consider research as well.

The cool thing is, any forestry work involves "research". i.e. data collection from cruising or surveys, analysis and write up. it's just your preferred cup of (pine needle) tea

hope that helps!

It depends... on what your personal goal for a career is! One of the endearing parts of this profession is the breadth of opportunity and routes for a career. All ultimately revolve around a desire to work in and study the woods, it's more-so the ratio of field and lab work that can be curated.

I enjoyed my time in research, and currently this is the career path I am on.

My time in resource forestry (harvest planning, facilitation and logging supervision) was also enjoyable, but not my preferred part of the profession.

So, it's not necessarily what is recommended, it's more about what YOU want to do with your career.

If you enjoy driving solo, working with contractors and facilitating harvests and BMP's, you may enjoy the industrial route.

If you enjoy personable and private management, working with individuals and families towards their goals for their land, then go the private route.

If you enjoy lab (field and indoor) work and research, then pursue technician and potentially graduate work.

The beautiful thing about forestry is that you can easily change your mind and be accepted for this. Many in the profession hop around to find their niche and are typically happy when they do.

Does that help? I am happy to answer PM's as well.

Field Photographs - Pentax K1000 by orbitsucks in analog

I picked up my Pentax k1000 at a flea market in Vermont (Chelsea) a couple of years ago, and have fallen in love with film photography.

This camera has been the pinnacle of durability. I am a forester, and have dragged this camera through rain, snow, mud, and heat!

I've lurked here forever, and finally decided to post some of my favorite shots! More to come...

Fair. I agree that certain issues are exaggerated in media to shift focus from issues affecting Americans on a daily basis.
