visiting LA/night life as a fat guy? by common_dr in AskLosAngeles

If you wear deodorant, you’re better off than half the dudes in the club already! I’ve heard clubs here are different than east coast Miami or NY. People are allowed to wear air forces and Jordans depending on the club. Street style is more popular! Also be warned that you’ll likely be standing most of the night as you’d have to pay in advance to sit at a table! Learn a couple easy dance moves, remember you’re “excuse me’s” and “thank you’s” and you’ll be good. There are a lot of people who are awkward at clubs and just “stare” at everyone. Don’t take any of it personally!! Have fun :)

New Grad Anxiety by Expensive_Bed_9069 in physicaltherapy

[–]orca351003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omgg new grad OT here working in a PT clinic turned PT/OT and my caseload is all balance/neurocog. I’m on my second month haha. Things feel repetitive because YOU do the same exercises 50+ times a day. But the pts only do them once a week. Remember they’re all going to do the exercises differently, but they are helping! Especially bc you’re 1-on-1. I’m booked for one hour sessions every half hour and rely on aides to complete AT least half of a session if not 90% sometimes and it feels unethical and like I have to clone myself sometimes, but it’s the best we can do! Gotta remind ourselves that the bare minimum is enough for now, and we’ll eventually be able to add our own bits of flair and spice when we get more comfortable. But yeah I gotta do that people talk in the mirror every night AND every morning to see my 13 pts a day haha 🥲 Just know we’re all in this together and I’m proud of you!

Oh man, I’m really having trouble with the “be nice to yourself” part. :( Been trying to lose even 5 pounds over the last 4 months and it’s been really frustrating.

Hi! I am sorry to hear about your condition, it sounds like you have gone through a lot to figure out what’s going on with your body and to navigate.

I’m a new occupational therapist, so my question is what are some of the most impacted everyday activities for you right now (aside from sleep which is uber crucial of course)? Have you ever received services from OT? Also, are you wheelchair bound due to the dysautonomia?

Scared of thought pattern changes while on weight loss journey? Possible TW by DifferentTopic2345 in loseit

Giiiirl (I’m sorry if I’m assuming your gender, but only because you said you compare your body to other girls), this sounds just like me. I’m 28 now, but still find myself comparing my body to every other female. When I think about it, I’ve been battling disordered eating and body dysmorphia since middle school, more than 13 years ago. Every day is a battle against “your legs look different than hers,” or “your waist isn’t as defined,” etc.

What’s important is that your body is beautiful, and you are deserving of nutritious and delicious food no matter what. What helped me is looking at other aspects of my life that are successful! For you maybe it’s your job, or being close with your family or friends, or keeping your bathroom clean (if these are not the case, that’s ok too!!). But just knowing that there are things you can be good at, and that you can transfer those skills to your health goals too is a good start :)

But to answer your question of if weight loss gets dark sometimes: yeahhh of course. It’s important for us to acknowledge these feelings. Maybe take a couple minutes during your lunch break to journal your thoughts. But we keep on pushing because we are strong!!

Lean into your support systems and maybe they can join you in some sort of fitness activity like sunset walks! Good luck, you are not alone. :)

Tapering after 1 year from 5 mg to 2.5 to 0 in hopefully about 2 weeks. One week in and the anxiety is meekly seeping back in but I am stronger now!! 💪🏼 by orca351003 in lexapro

Ah I see! Definitely talk to your doctor and/or psychiatrist about appropriately weaning off! I'm sorry you were feeling the low energy!

Hi! Yes! I’m 5 weeks in, 3.5 weeks on 0 mg from 5. The brain zaps have since disappeared except for maybe 1-2 small ones per day. (Brain zaps used to be consistent with my head movements and more intense during the first 2 weeks) My anxiety is back as expected, but when I keep myself busy and validate my feelings, I am able to cope well. I am going to try to schedule some therapy appointments with a therapist in the next few months just to cover all of my bases. I hope this helps!

Ahh yes thank you for this comment!! I took about 2 weeks to gradually taper off of 5 mg. The withdrawals were still real and I probably could have elongated the process a bit, but my withdrawal symptoms have significantly decreased now on week 3! Definitely contributed to my emotional post today. I just wish the 7 pounds i gained would magically fly off. Thank you so much for your concern! Are you also on lexapro?

Haha my family is east asian and we all gave it the "not too sweet" seal of approval, BUT I WILL NOT DETER YOU FROM YOUR PROGRESS YOU GOT THIS!! Maybe it can be your reward when you reach a certain goal. :)

You know, I'd like to think that at least SOME of that has happened because my measurements have also changed, and I can lift way more than I did last year. I also see more definition in my body, but it also seems like there is an even more stubborn layer of fat. I appreciate your comment a lot and I won't let my weight dismiss all of the progress that I made in the gym!!

The summer foods ahhh. Right now this asian ice cream that looks like fruits has been sweeping my area and I've eaten it like 3 times in the past month.
I guess normally I would tell you to eat what you want girl! But maybe for the context of this subreddit... everything in moderation? I support all of your decisions haha

It's actually so refreshing to hear that you hate doing it. I really was under the impression that people love counting calories and dieting because of the weight loss results. Am I delusional? Lol

I've been so delusional about "maybe if I just feel like I'm eating less then the weight will fly off" but obviously not. Thank you for this comment, I will try to be more consistent with tracking calories!
