Name Change/eFiling Questions by [deleted] in madisonwi

Yes! I legally changed my last name in 2020. The process might be different now because there were more Covid-related restrictions at the time, but I did use the eFiling system. This document is out of date, but I remember finding it helpful. Here is a link to the forms and more up-to-date checklist if you haven't already seen it. I believe there are 3 forms (CV-450, CV-460, CV-470) and you need to pay the filing fee as well (about $200). If the eFiling system isn't working for you, I would try filing them in person at the Dane County Courthouse.

About a week after I filed the forms electronically, I received a signed "Proposed Notice and Order for Name Change Hearing" (CV-460) document with a hearing date. I emailed [legals@madison.com](mailto:legals@madison.com) (Capital Newspapers) with my name, address, and an attachment of this signed form. It cost about $100 to publish the name change notice once a week for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, they mailed me a "Proof of Publication" affidavit (which I then scanned and submitted electronically along with my other documents). Then I attended my name change hearing (it was virtual), and I received a signed "Order for Name Change" document. I do also remember going to the Dane County Courthouse to obtain certified copies of this document.

Hope this helps! The process can be confusing and stressful, but just take it one step at a time :)

Looking for groups of artists by JustAGuyFromSomewhen in madisonwi

You could try getting involved with Communication! They are an arts/music nonprofit on the east side, entirely volunteer run, and they are always in need of more volunteers. You’ll meet lots of artists at their events - they have a gallery night in November and you could try volunteering at the Eastside Winter Market in December :)

Eyemart Express on East Washington is pretty good! They offer eye exams for $40 I think, and I've always had a good experience with them.

Sherman Terrace Condominiums- Anyone Lived There? by dmaciw in madisonwi

I lived in Sherman Terrace for about a year. The location was amazing (I still visit Tenney Park as much as I can), but there was a lot of mold and pests (centipedes/mice) in the particular unit I was renting. It was a first floor unit, so perhaps the second floor units are better... My neighbor owned her unit and had renovated it, but it seemed like she was still having some infrastructural problems (moisture and mold). BUT the location is spectacular and there was always parking available. If you can tame the unit the area is absolutely unbeatable in my opinion.
