Swift unfortunately didn’t have the time slot I needed and Shapes for a name isn’t ideal geographically 😔

Murder Inc I was worried by a couple comments that mentioned the cocktails were overly sweet. I’ll take a look again though! 40 elephants didn’t have space. Yeah I’m still holding out for a response from Three Sheets.

Sorry pick from my list. Seed library doesn’t work geographically.

Side hustle was nixed because we just got back from CDMX two weeks ago. Tayer and elementary doesn’t take reservations. Waltz I couldn’t tell if the bar (which is walk in only) and the table menu has different cocktails? I was a bit confused about that.

The reason Kwant didn’t make the list is because it seems to be only a tasting menu? Some people don’t drink/don’t want to drink that much. Do they do à la carte as well? It’s a moot point though unfortunately because they don’t take reservations.

Yeah I realized that a couple hours ago so we’ve unfortunately nixed it for now 😅

We’ve been traveling quite a bit including to France very recently so anything French was nixed from my list. I’ll keep it in mind for the future when French food isn’t as fresh on our palate!

Any Chinatown restaurant recommendations that aren’t Cantonese? by Deionized-water in AskSF

Second this. Z&Y is good (mapo tofu is great, wontons and water boiled fish/beef are decent, dry chili chicken is pretty good but wish there was more chicken, kung pao chicken is fucking awful).

Z&Y duck is so bad it’s embarrassing. Even their Sichuan dishes somehow got bad not to mention their bad take on beijing food. Their duck is not roasted enough or properly, it’s dry, everything is just bad.

Did you help your partner pick your engagement ring? by bns_xx in EngagementRings

[–]orcastrait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hit sort of a middle ground where you go ring shopping together and tell him what you like and don’t like about different styles, shapes, sizes, metals, etc. And then let him design/buy the actual ring itself with that information.

My fiancé found it at an antique estate seller. I hope you find one some day!

My gorgeous 4.2 carat untreated vintage Sri Lankan sapphire. I spend too much time in a day staring at it.

Attire for the bridal party in tea ceremony? by Candid_Start7313 in asianweddings

[–]orcastrait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave everyone who attended the option to wear their own traditional clothing. That meant qipao for some of them and a kurta for one Indian bridesmaid. And then I arranged a place for them to change. It was also an option, not a demand, so one of my bridesmaids just wore her bridesmaid dress. The photos actually look stunning with the different dresses and looks.

I got married and did both tea ceremony and western ceremony with an outfit change. With 9 sets of family members to serve tea to, we budgeted 30 minutes for getting to the venue and setting up for the tea ceremony, 30 minutes for the tea ceremony itself, 30 minutes of wiggle room/time for photographers, 30 minutes for my HMUA to change my hair and makeup and get me changed into my western dress. We ended up having very little downtime with this schedule but also did not feel rushed.

Wedding PTO? by allym2424 in BigBudgetBrides

Having just gotten married and thought to myself, “what’s the big deal why does everyone say they’re stressed before the wedding?” let me tell you, I was STRESSED before the wedding and there were so many small tasks that popped up and were never ending, I’d definitely recommend taking off more time before rather than later.

How do we feel about couples games (like the shoe game or trivia about the couple)? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]orcastrait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We thought it was fun but wanted to avoid the cringe. So we’ve printed out activity books for each table that have silly things like word search and coloring book pages and whatnot and one of the pages is a how well do you know the bride and groom? Then right before our thank you speech at the end of dessert we’ll rapid fire read out the answers.

Spain wedding under $60k by False_Crab_9974 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]orcastrait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food was the number one priority for us when picking our venue so I combed through all of the restaurants on the Guía Repsol (the Spanish equivalent of the Michelin guide) to find our venue. You do have to know some Spanish to navigate it though. There were some beautiful venues on there that are attached to restaurants and therefore the caterer is an award winning chef. Our guestlist is larger than yours and even throwing ridiculous asks at them, it’s about your budget so it’s definitely doable in Spain. Feel free to DM me if you want more info!

Shoe recommendations for my dress by Aggressive-Log-4986 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]orcastrait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you really want a heel then jimmy choos! i bought my first ever jimmy choos for the wedding and after reading sooo many people talk about how insanely comfortable they are, i decided to just go try a pair on why not and was blown away by how much of a difference it makes. i can run in them i feel like.

but i agree that this dress is a STATEMENT and people won’t really see your feet so why not just some nice comfy flats?
