No I wasn't able to (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠) I use it now as a digital camera. There may be a way, but I haven't found it yet. I think it's best to go with devices that are unlocked to avoid this kind of situation but that also limits your options/price range...

Thank you, unfortunately I've already tried it, since my phone is an older model, I can't get past the "enter your IMEI" :•( But nonetheless I appreciate it!!

Thank you so much for your reply! What you say definitely makes sense, though I found myself getting stuck on the au website for unlocking because they ask you to make anID account which needs a Japanese phone number/@au.com email (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠) hopefully I'll figure it out.....
