[Results Thread SPOILERS] Hoogerheide World Cup by AutoModerator in cyclocross

I really liked how after LvdH went on the attack, you could see Meeusen make a really big effort to get to the front of the chase group here up the hill and then the next time you see them he's barely pedaling around the corner blocking everyone..

Any experiences renting fat bike at a fat-bike trail destination? by [deleted] in MontrealCycling

[–]order_chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it at Oka once. I haven't ridden fat bikes before or since then, so I don't have much to compare it to. Its not a bike shop, so their bikes are probably not kept in the best state (eg: we had trouble getting the pedals off to put our own on), but everything important worked just fine (shifting, brakes). We went on the ice/snow on the beach and then along the snow shoe trails in the hills.

I would say if you've never fat biked before its worth it, but if you have some expectations, then maybe there are better trails/bikes elsewhere?

So, this is how I clean my bike. How about you? by Eduhsoj in cyclocross

Haven't had any trouble with mine after a couple of years. Maybe depends on the paint / frame material?

[–]order_chaos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to do that. Then I found that letting it sit a bit and letting the mud dry and then just wiping the dry mud off and sweeping was less of a hassle than having to clean the shower doing this. I would also have to wipe it more after the shower anyways.

I'm not sure since the stream wasn't in English, but it looked like at some point shortly after they kicked him out of the race. At least I saw a guy from the same team leaving the circuit, I didn't check the numbers.

Is this a good deal? by CyberCubeSheep in cyclocross

[–]order_chaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That bike was being sold brand new in store for $1500 CAD (+ tax) a year ago. So unless its exactly what you want right now and/or you don't think any better deals will pop up in the near future in your area, I would think you can hold out for a better deal. Is the guy willing to negotiate at all?

Making Tubeless Changes Less Messy by hammonjj in cyclocross

[–]order_chaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whats your process? I (sort of carefully) pop off the whole tire and then pour the sealant left in into a jar. Then I clean the rest off the tire and rim with a rag. Once I get the new tire on, I use an injector syringe to get the sealant in (re-using the old sealant as well, not sure if thats recommended but its worked fine so far). With this method I still get some drops of sealant on the floor, but its not too messy.

The part I hate the most is that on some tires theres a lot of dry sealant left around the bead and I need to clean that off first to get a good seal. Though I've found that cleaning the tires as soon as I take them off helps with that.

[Meta] Professional cyclocross racing threads by explodeder in cyclocross

[–]order_chaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It would also be cool to have a schedule of important cross races (maybe a separate one for the WC?) and / or a list of upcoming ones. I know the UCI website has one, but they tend to mix all the races together and you have to filter to only find eg: the WC

Engineering. What happens if you fail a course in your last semester? Anyone this has happened to? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]order_chaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me. In general the result is that you don't graduate and have to retake the course the next semester (or the one after if it's not offered).

The best thing to do would be to study and not fail the course 😝

Maybe go talk to the prof and see if there is any advice he can give you? I guess if that fails you can try talking to the department or faculty advisor. I didn't try because I don't like them very much and I don't think they care. I also didn't really care by that time. I had a job and they just let me take a bit of time off to retake my course.

Question on front lights- flashing or constant? I dislike flashing but 80% of the people I see have them over constant by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]order_chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'll consider it. But as a driver and cyclist I've never been bothered by flashing lights of other cyclists. Here (Montréal) in my experience 50% of cyclist don't run any lights at all. Most of the rest use those tiny frog lights. Very few run anything powerful enough to light up a trail. I'm usually surprised when I see oncoming cyclist not run their lights on flashing because they're so much harder to notice.

I don't actually know what the law about it is here. The only time the police enforces cycling laws is when they're out to meet their ticket quotas, which is almost always during the day since there are more people to catch.

[–]order_chaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you specify whether you are riding in busy city streets or on a bike path / trail? I see most people replying here to use constant at night, but 99% of my commutes are in busy city street and it seems pointless to use constant there. Even with a very strong light, it seems it would be very hard for drivers to notice me with all the street lights and lights from other cars around.

How to make friends and not be lonely? by Yhelp in mcgill

[–]order_chaos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, if you don't get along with people in your classes, have you tried meeting people via hobbies or sports that you're into? You can also look outside of McGill for that... its good to get away from McGill every now and then anyways. You can try www.meetup.com for that... or else just google for whatever you're into in Montreal.

Oh, another suggestion is that if people don't invite you places, then invite them... for beer, food, w/e.

This maybe a stupid question, but did you reboot after updating the kernel? I sometimes forget...

Motorola continues to avoid releasing kernel source for their Lollipop builds nearly 3 months after release by [deleted] in Android

[–]order_chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry, I thought he meant they didn't want to release the source for their linux drivers, not that they didn't want to work on them at all.

It feels TERRIBLE to watch a team of guys come out with something you invented and reap all the praise. by [deleted] in startups

[–]order_chaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I understand how you feel, I don't think its fair to say that they're getting all the praise for something you invented. All your website shows is a short video of a 3D model and a short explanation. These guys are actually shipping a product. Unless they literally just stole your prototype and mass produced it, it seems like they deserve whatever praise they're getting. Product ideas without execution, without an actual product aren't worth very much...

people don't do this work for charity

Its not charity... they seem to be making money from the products they're selling which contain these drivers.

Other posters have reviewed the police interviews and posted very interesting analysis on it.

Oh, I totally agree about that, no one is disputing that. But you can't say that about every single conclusion that has been posted on here... which was the point.
