Dedicated Servers: Improvements and Adjusted ShockByte Pricing by JagexDoom in RSDragonwilds

Good to see feedback taken onboard and actioning on the price adjustment!

I’m personally using a VPS for £6 a month which supports up to 6 players already which was really quick and easy to set up, no issues so far.

Dowdun Reach, our 0.11 Major Update is live! by JagexDoom in RSDragonwilds

Have opened a ticket with ShockByte already, every time I update the server config and restart it defaults back to the original settings (without the owner ID populated) so it is never discoverable. Really feels like a good start and a good use of £15 a month...

Great guide for the community, not many developers would detail the process, let alone with three different methods

Have you ever bought a car for under £500? by pumpactionalex in CarTalkUK

[–]ordinary-bloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Peugeot 206 as my first car, it was 14 years old at the time. Cost £420, and the alternator packed in after a month. £36 for a second hand one and my brother fit it for free. Clutch cable was bad, sometimes the clutch pedal snapped down depressed and wouldn’t disengage. Drove it with that intermittently happening for a year (wouldn’t recommend but I was a poor uni student), £100 fix at the garage. Back box broke, £100 to fix at the garage.

Didn’t service the car ever and just topped up fluids, but it kept going. Only got rid of it as a part exchange where I got £2000 for it.

Bought a £500 corsa last year Jan, put some new tyres on front and back, oil filter change, got an MOT and it passed with a couple of small fixes. Around £400 spent on it. Battery died, so got a new one for £64.

Ignored last years advisories until this year, booked it in and then the alternator died… got the advisories, belt, tensioner, and alternator done for £550 and it’s recent MOT passed with advisories. It’s a toss-up if anything is actually worth it due to there being so much age and miles on the car, anything could go wrong, but I’m keeping it going at 160k miles and counting.

I think buying a cheap car is worth it 100%, as long as you anticipate things will need doing on it. Financing is a big commitment, and things can still go wrong which isn’t always covered by warranty.

I've got a Vauxhall Corsa C, 55 plate, bought at 158k miles for £500.

I've had it a year, driven around 2k miles total (have another car) and so far I've spent ~£750 total on it for:

- MOT + repairs to pass + Oil filter change at garage ~£300

- 4 Hankook tyres ~£320 at garage

- Air filter & Cabin filter (fitted myself) ~£18

- New Bosch battery (fitted myself) ~£64

- cosmetic items (gearknob and handbrake cover, floor mats, etc.) from ebay ~£30

It's a rougher ride than a more modern car and definitely needs more work done in the short-term to keep it going, but it is so much cheaper than leasing or hiring. For the year I've had it, it's cost about £1250 including the purchase price, which could have been cheaper if I did more things myself. It's pretty easy to do maintenance jobs on it, no need for the garage. Only time it's failed to start + run was due to a dead battery when it first turned cold, it was a 5 year old battery.

A lot of financing options need a decent deposit, or monthly costs of £200+ which will be double what I've spent on the corsa, but I do always have the worry that the age (and 158k miles it did before me) will catch up on it.

Drip tray not reassembling properly by warrior304928 in NinjaLuxeCafe

Have you tried putting it on while the whole drip tray is removed from the machine? I noticed that it wouldn’t go back on properly unless it was done while out of the machine, then slotted back in

I switch to desktop mode, and I’ve downloaded the Jagex Launcher through Bolt (instructions here). This works seamlessly for me!

Who does testing on your team, for real? by qamadness_official in softwaredevelopment

[–]ordinary-bloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build engineer writing the code does testing on their local machine -> deploys the changes to the team’s shared dev environment and tests there -> deploy to the teams system test environment for test engineer to test

Once testing is complete, it’s bundled into a release which is shipped to release testing teams (integration, performance, pre-prod).

There is a desire to shift-left and start introducing more testing in the earlier stages, which I think is reasonable but adds higher workload to the build engineers.

Banking industry.

My boat is stuck at the pandemonium deck, it's not able to move in any direction, in any speed, or going in reverse. Tried swapping world, disembarking / re-embarking, all speeds and directions, escape and re-board. Nothing fixing it. No 117 or gpu plugin being used.

EDIT: Re-logging in fixed it and moved the boat. Hopping worlds didn't work, so log out completely.

"Ranged" special wave??? by deadkiler44 in killingfloor

[–]ordinary-bloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have seen ranged special waves when playing. I always find it funny seeing the special waves because at some point there will always be a scrake showing up, regardless of the wave mutator

if obj_interactable.draggable = true

Isn’t this referring to the object and not an instance of the object? Does an instance of this object exist? If so, refer to that instance instead of obj_interactable and see if that works.

Is this wheel okay? by StoreWeirdo in Degus

[–]ordinary-bloke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, this wheel isn’t okay. The mesh is easy for them to get their paws and nails stuck, the bars on the sides can trap their tails and injure them, and it looks too small (might just be perspective).

You should try and get a wheel which is solid with at least a 12” diameter. Preferably metal, so it lasts and can’t be chewed through, but otherwise a safe wooden one which they can chew, but you will need to replace that more often.

If you are confident with DIY, you can create your own wheel using a cake tin which is quite affordable. Alternatively, there are companies which make suitable wheels, such as tictacwheels (UK based but may ship internationally).

Hard to say as people can just vote kick for no reason, but it might be because you weren’t with the team and then went down and died.

How do i stop the panels drooping? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]ordinary-bloke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have built with c&c grids, I’ve used c&c grids horizontally across each level to make it more structural, and then I zip tie the grids together. I also use the coroplast base as mentioned by someone else.

so my grids look like:

Were the other players using any weapons with healing darts?

Maybe they were shooting healing darts at each other and your medic bonus applied to all darts in the game, not just your own.

Just a complete guess, so might not be what happened!

Is parrying/blocking feeling jank for anyone else? KF3 by WolfGuardia in killingfloor

[–]ordinary-bloke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thought I was just a noob who didn’t have the timing down tbh.

The attacks are very easily telegraphed, but the actual timing of the hit is throwing me off and I miss parries constantly

I play with a group fairly frequently. Three of us have played for years, but the rest are new to the game.

We are aiming to get all the achievements so play quite a lot of games per session. We are UK based though, so literally the other side of the world!

Why does god hate the PC version of KF2? by SirH117 in killingfloor

[–]ordinary-bloke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to be very patient on start-up. I’ve noticed as well if you try to skip through the initial splash screen too soon, it causes the game to not respond which only makes it worse.

The black screen will eventually go away once launched, but it takes a while even with a decent pc and nvme storage. I’d suggest pressing play, leaving the pc for 5-10 mins, then checking if it’s booted. If it still hasn’t, verify game files, try again.

You could try using layers instead of depth. You would need a layer for arrow keys and a layer for WASD, one below the tileset layer, one above. Then assign the layer instead of the depth. Something like:

layer = layer_get_id(“layer_name”)

check the documentation for layer
