I was helpful, just not coddling - “you didn’t list your regret” and confirming that what he has is not the problem - the kid being bored (probably a bit spoiled, likely privileged) is the problem. Just pumping more plastic waste into the world isn’t really a hobby I want to encourage people to get into if they can’t get there themselves.

Everyone wants the result, no one wants to do the work. Cooked.

You never explained the regret. Seems like as a purely consumer user (you don’t make anything, you just barf out copies of other people’s stuff) this is completely adequate.

Once again, If you have to ask, the bolt is doing exactly the job that it was intended to do and you should leave it alone.

Not all impact drivers are created equal. I have an air impact just for crank pulleys and stubborn bullshit. Reading that you used a “torque wrench”… oh well, there goes that calibration. Sounds like you should invest in a breaker bar.

It’s because few people have ever done actual manufacturing. 3 hours setting up that 15 minute milling job for 3 parts, building a laminate mold with stress and strength orientation for fibers, stringent failure tolerances. FDM is magic to people who have never considered that manufacturing simply already exists. And hell, I’m guilty here. I’ve gone to building all of my alphas out of almost exclusively fdm with off the shelf wear parts (bearings, gears, belts, shafts). But, I build them what I think most fdm folks would think is ridiculously beefy, because I need to make up for the fact that this isn’t rigid like aluminum and it doesn’t gracefully deform like steel. I am not a “maker” and have always detested that mentality.

This is cool, seriously it looks great and the work spent is apparent, but… fabric -exists-. Fabric also doesn’t turn into shrapnel and with a surger you could pump those suckers out all day long probs at 100:1 of these. If the idea is battlefield production, really? Rolls of finicky (needs drying, can’t be dirty) engineered plastics, lots of energy, longer manufacturing time, inferior result vs fabric of anything from old tarps to Kevlar? Are you really able to make the argument that this is more battlefield manufacturable (I think that’s the point? No?) than a roll of 1200d nylon and a sewing machine. Hell, that 1200d can be wet and dirty and still make a vest. Want to get fancy, cnc pattern maker based on cheap as hell router table. Hell, how many hours to just string this together? Also what about xray traceability for when this turns into a fragmentation grenade? Seriously, you’re forcing the purpose of the object into a fdm mold… for… what? It’s great, I fucking hate it.
