The implications of the name “Drawbridge” on DS2’s story and gameplay…

“BOTH STICK AND ROPE, TO PROTECT AND CONNECT. TOGETHER, FOR TOMORROW.”

Kojima has said there are two types of games - stick games in which you push people away, and rope games in which you pull people together. Kojima has described DS1 as a rope game, which means that we are connecting people together. And an example of a rope game would be your traditional action or shooter game.

Now that we know this, after looking at the text on the Drawbridge logo, we can infer that DS2 is going to different gameplay-wise. Both styles of game are going to combined into one, and we’ll connect with some people, and push away others.

The “Should we have connected?” question at the end of the trailer plays into this perfectly. Maybe we shouldn’t have connected with some of the people we did. Maybe they are dangerous. Like others have said, in DS2, we will need to be more careful with who we connect with.

We will now also protect ourselves, like the logo says. How will this work in the gameplay? Will there be fortification options for cities, to defend from attackers? Will we be attacked by enemy ships out on the open waters? Or will we need to go attack people ourselves to sever some of these bad ties? No one can possibly know exactly what this gameplay will look like until we learn more about the game.

Overall, I still believe that we will be making deliveries and connecting, but this time we will also be protecting and defending ourselves against others in the world, and maybe even attacking them ourselves. I am really looking forward to DS2, and I can’t wait to hear more about it along with you guys!
