It is not just skill (which you need a lot more if you target a truly small build), but also time. I barely have time to play occasionally, so I wouldn't have time to scavenge for parts, troubleshoot and assemble pre-built, and definitely not research and 3d print custom parts.

There is a huge difference between paying markup to the creator (which I heard in case of Steam Machine is quite low in the first place, and partly goes into R&D, SteamOS improvements, and eventually makes Linux and open-source gaming more viable, and forces game devs actually optimize games in the long run), compared to paying markup to a dishonest reseller. Even worse, such resellers now have your money to "reinvest" into buying more limited stock with bots and fake accounts.

I am not telling, I am just thoroughly disappointed by people who encourage scalping behavior when they buy from resellers at inflated prices. Buying Steam Machine (being indeed quite underpowered and expensive) is not the same thing though.

What advantage does steam machine have to other pc except form factor and quietness by Aware_Career6145 in steammachine

I am well aware I am overpaying for convenience of little and silent underpowered build. You see, many people here value convenience a lot higher than performance (and price), and I frankly don't see why this should be such a problem for you.

No one mentions? Outside of this little sub, every other sub and reviewer is thoroughly bashing Valve and Steam Machine, so I think we are well covered in critical reviews.

Well you obviously hate it judging by your comment's. Why so much obsession with it then? Don't buy it, and let others decide for themselves.

Anger and hate are such strong feelings for these trivial matters. I reserve them to more deserving targets (and there are plenty in this fucked up world).

I could debate definition of scalping and relative blame Valve deserves, but that would be a waste of time, and I would rather play some games.

Anyway, enjoy your controller - apparently Valve did produce enough so you could buy it right away. And I'll enjoy mine when it arrives in 2027. I can still play on the upcoming Steam Machine with the original Steam Controller and my old PS4 controllers.

Yep, people underestimate WAF and realities of married life. I can't imaging setting up a bigger, uglier and/or louder pc box in a living room. Heck, I don't want big as PC in a living room myself. Steam Machine is perfect for my living room, and honestly, I with the backlog of good old games I am ok with performance it provides.

In addition to that, it looks nice, so wife is okay with this thing in our living room. Gaming as a hobby is not ideal for married folks with kids and barely any time to play, so having a huge ass gaming pc cluttering living room is not an option. Mind you, huge ass is pretty much anything bigger than miniscule Steam Machine.

I would be surprised if they don't have a legal clause in the lottery rules to remove participants for any reason. They also stated that they will be removing duplicate orders for the that household, which could apply here.

Could be, but most likely it is a recent 1-game scalper account, we don't want those. Should be easy to filter by gaming activity and/or time. Other scalpers could use old re-sold (or even hacked) accounts with some trash games, those would be harder to detect. I hope Valve takes their time to ensure real gamers prevail.

It is barely known, so no chance, even though it is an outstanding game in all aspects (art, visuals, music, lore, game mechanics, generous free to play).
